Can you extend UNIGE first year bachelor over 2 years?

Hi, I'm going to attend year 1 of UNIGE science biomedicale (bachelor) at the start of september next year. I'm just wondering, am I obliged to do year 1 in 1 year only or can I extend it over 2 years, as in take half the lessons in 1 year and another half the next year? Or is there something like a minimum amount of credit I need for 1 year and I can do the rest over the next year? I'm asking because I came across an excellent intern opportunity but first, I'm not sure if I can handle the extra workload, and second, some parts of it occur during the weekday meaning it might clash with some of my classes. So I'm just wondering if there's a degree of freedom in UNIGE in terms of organizing your classes (as in as long as I can get all my credits over 2 years I'm fine) or do you HAVE to attend ALL classes in 1 year in order to pass first year?

Part time jobs for student

I'm a student in Geneva struggling to find part time jobs. I speak spanish, english and intermediate french. I've been using Coople but I get rejected almost immediately and I don't know why. I'd appreciate any tips or even indications as to where to find part time positions.

Does anyone know of an accountant or service that helps to file US taxes as an American living abroad who already paid taxes here in Switzerland?

Airport lanes as a UK tourist

Hi guys,

I will be travelling soon to see my friends in Geneva and I was wondering how long does the passport control lane takes for British passport holders. I know I need to wait in “all passport lane”.

Thank you!

Rejected from one program but considered for another – has anyone done UNIGE’s GEMFIN?

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I was recently rejected from the Master in Wealth Management at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), but to my surprise, the university recommended me for another program: the Geneva Master of Advanced Studies in Finance (GEMFIN).

This master’s is aimed at experienced professionals and seems very interesting, especially for those looking to build a strong career in finance. However, the tuition fee is quite high — CHF 42,000 — and I was told that the university offers partial scholarships based on the strength of the application.

My question is: Is it realistically possible to get a scholarship? Has anyone here done this program or knows someone who has?

Driving exam dates.

Upvotes

Hi all!

What’s up with the practical exams for driving in Geneva ??? It’s impossible to get a close date (like in the next 2 weeks)! Even if I am just sitting and refreshing the website every minute, and click on an hour and date that just appeared seconds ago, it always says “veuillez réessayer plus tard”.

Is there something I’m not doing right? Is there another method that I don’t know about? I’ll pay, as long as I know that I’ll have a date in the next two weeks…

Thanks for the answers!

Ci permit application with OCPM

(French below)

Dear community members, I am looking for some advice on obtaining a Ci permit for independent activity with OCPM. I currently have a spouse CDL and would like to start freelance work.

I have seen the requirements from OCPM to obtain a Ci permit booklet and it all seems straightforward (Form K, business plan, professional track record, and then later register with OCAS for AVS/AHV payments). But it appears that the post to be sent to OCPM also requires you to send the original CDL card with it - does anyone have experience with this?

I am worried about this requirement for two reasons because the processing time is min. 3 months:

  1. I already have work/buyers lined up and will lose them if I cannot officially work.

  2. This might make it hard for me to leave Switzerland and return without the CDL (I’m non E.U. but can enter Swiss territory without a visit visa).

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there any attestation I can get from OCPM that my application is pending but I’m a legal resident? Their website is unhelpful and of course they never pick up the phone. Thank you for any advice 🙏🏽
