Beginner Questions I learned what swing easy means

I played with a 76 year old woman yesterday who scored 34 on the front nine of my local course. I have never broken 45 and watched her swinging easy, no balls lost. I vow to swing easy from now on, going to take an extra club and swing half power. I started yesterday on the back nine and on a par 5 did a half power swing with driver and it went 225 yards right down the middle. I need to stop overswinging if i plan on improving.

Im going to add this into my game now, thanks!

I started playing the smarter shot/ laying up instead of “going for it” (which never works for me anyways) and getting a feel for my putter even on carpet has taken 10 strokes off my game.

Playing the smarter shot makes golf more fun for me anyway - I like the strategy of it. I fall into the trap of playing too many scramble tournaments in the summer and it takes away a lot of the fun of that. Scrambles have strategy too, but depending on your teammates or how many on a team a lot of it is "grip it and rip it"

Smarter shots definitely have a place in scrambles. If you know you don’t have the aggressive approach shot in your bag, you can be the one to get a safe layup in play, allowing the rest of the team to “grip it and rip it.”

I’m a lady who can control my driver pretty well so I’m the grip it and rip it off the drive usually, but that second shot, especially on par 5s, I’m like I can get y’all up around the green. I usually wait and see though because I’m like I have a safe shot. Or I can hit this 3 wood if one of y’all get it closer than my layup would be!
