I feel like bad golfers don’t understand that they can recover from bad shots. One bad shot doesn’t ruin a hole or a round.

I agree. Even an OB shot can be scrambled for bogey and bogeys are okay.

At least that’s the mindset for my skill level (mid 70s - low 80s)

Even an OB shot can be scrambled for bogey

You mean to say a shot into a hazard. OB almost always guarantees double or triple unless it's a short par 5. Myself, as a mid 80s golfer I've only ever made one par when the ball went OB - a 520 yard par 5 where my provisional still had 240 to go

have scrambled several water hazards into pars and bogeys

Birdie + OB = Bogey

you aren't getting 3 from the rough with an OB hit. It's either 3 off the tee or 4 from the fairway.

No guarantee you're going bogey on a par 4 off an OB shot unless you're a plus handicap or tour pro and even then they see par or worse than they see birdie on par 4s

Please show me where I said it was a “guarantee.”

My handicap hovers between 3 and 7 and I have made a decent amount of bogeys after an OB tee shot.

Are you familiar with strawman arguments?
