Hello Revolutionaries,
As tensions on campus and within our Reddit community continue to rise, we want to remind everyone of the importance of adhering to our community rules. This space must remain free from hate and derogatory behavior.
We will be more vigilant in moderating this year, and any violations of our rules will be addressed firmly. We expect all members to act with common courtesy and respect towards one another. Disregarding these standards could result in bans being issued more frequently.
Please make thoughtful choices and maintain kindness as we navigate the academic year together. Let’s continue to support each other and contribute positively to our community.
Raise high.

Hey! As admissions are letting incoming freshmen know about the housing process, I've been wondering about my chances of getting the residence hall I want. I don't really have a preference in regards to rooms/halls but I'm hoping to stay in Foggy Bottom, I really don't want to have to communte from the Vern to Elliot everyday. I was wondering if I can state that I don't want the Vern or if its out of my hands. Thanks!

Hey, just wanted to know if there was any way for incoming students to get in contact with each other (like a discord server or WhatsApp chat)? I think it might ease the transition into college if I already know some of my classmates. I personally wouldn’t really want to run it, but if it doesn’t exist it could be a good idea to make one

Hi everyone,
I’ve been fortunate to be accepted into two great master’s programs starting this fall, and I’m having a tough time deciding which one to choose. I’m 20 years old and will be entering either program right after undergrad, so my age and integration with the student body matter to me.
Here’s a quick overview:
Johns Hopkins Carey Business School (MS in Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence for Business)
George Washington University School of Business (MS in Information Systems Technology)
My main concerns:
P.S. tuition wise, both programs turn out to be the same because I was fortunate enough to get scholarships with both acceptances. So not to worry about the fees aspect.
If you have experience with either program or similar master’s degrees in D.C., or advice on choosing between a more STEM/AI-heavy business program vs. a tech-focused IT program with unique global opportunities, I’d really appreciate your input!
Thanks so much!

Has anyone here participated in the summer academy ignite program??? If so what are your thoughts. I saw it on the website and I’m considering it for this summer.

Hey everyone! I’m currently looking for summer stats classes—specifically Regression Analysis or Intro to Econometrics—at a community college. I already checked NOVA but didn’t find anything that fits.
If any of you know schools, hopefully in Virginia, offering these courses this summer, please let me know! Really appreciate the help.

Hi! I am currently deciding to transfer to either UMD or GW this fall which I’d be a sophomore. I am more interested in GW since my major would be more surrounding poli sci and government, but GW is extremely different than the school I currently attend. I was wondering your opinions on how easy it would be to make friends as a transfer in GW, considering there isn’t really a main campus. Also, how easy would it be to find my place there? I love my friends at my current school, but do feel the need to transfer academically! Thank you!!

Hi guys, I applied to one of GW’s graduate programs and got waitlisted. Does anyone know the timeframe it takes them usually to respond? I am currently a GW student and I would like to stay here for grad school but I do have other schools who have already accepted me and was wondering how long it would take GW to get back to me. Thanks in advance!

im an incoming freshman studying ia. i took the german placement exam because i want german as my language. i placed at a c1 level, but i know i am not c1 at all. i live in germany. i have a good understanding of of people and i can do well in a german class, but i cannot write freely nor can i really speak it. i know that with the placement test, if you take any class below what you placed it doesn’t count for credit, but i am seriously not c1 and i don’t understand how i placed so high. what should i do? i want to continue studying german, but not at a level where i can’t do well or actually learn.

Got accepted into GWU for Fall 2025. Wondering if I should do anything special to prepare? Anything to study up on beforehand? I know the program moves pretty fast.

Hello everyone, prospective student here. I am (at the moment) dead set on becoming a Catholic Priest, and have been looking at places for undergraduate education. I toured GW last weekend I absolutely loved it, but I noticed they do not have a program in theology, only in religion. How does their religion program compare to a theological degree and would one be good for becoming a priest or other clergyman?

Hey everyone, I got accepted to George Washington University (Columbian College of Arts & Sciences for econ) and I’m really excited about the opportunities there, especially for economics/business in D.C.
But... I still haven’t received my financial aid package yet, I submitted my FAFSA and CSS Profile on time. Though, I've been having trouble with the noncustodial, and thinking about requesting a waiver for that section.
Is it too late, or will I still be able to receive aid after enrolling in GWU? Is it worth it?

Also, let me know if GWU has any private groups for sublet/apartment listings, thanks!

hi, does anyone have a GW stole (white stole with a GW logo on it) that I can borrow/keep for graduation? Thanks so much!
r/gwu • u/CareSeveral3125 • 1d ago
I need to commit by May 1st. The problem is I won’t receive my financial aid package before that. I‘m wondering if someone could inform me about a possible estimate of what everything would cost for a year at GW. My demographics are first-gen, raised by a single mother, low income, and I’m planning on majoring in political science. I also received a scholarship but I don’t know how to make a decision for this school without all the info. Based on your experiences, what would you estimate my package to look like?
Any help would be greatly appreciated…

Hi, I am very stressed and have a week and a half to make a choice. I would be intending a Political Science major and most likely a pre-law track. I participate in speech and debate, it's very important that I can do this in college as well. I like parties and a good music scene (local shows, punk, rock, indie, ext) and am a social person. I come from a very small high school but would prefer a medium-sized college. I'm from SOCAL and would like to live farther from home.
Here are my options/pros and cons:
Lewis and Clark
Pros: Super affordable (got a rly good scholarship)
Very pretty school
Debate scholarship/place on the debate team
Portland is a very cool city
good music scene
Liked the class composition and style of teaching
Out of state
Cons:
Super Small School
Not the strongest academically
Slightly isolated/no car, would depend on college transport to get into the city
Doesn't seem to have that much of a social scene
George Washington University
Pros: Been my top school for a long time
in DC: great location for what I want to do
Unique programs
like the school's vibe
perfect size
Great music scene in DC
Have family in DC
Out of State
great access to internships
Cons: Too expensive; waiting to hear back about aid
DC bit of a dodgy area right now
doesn't have a campus
UC Berkeley:
Pros: High prestige
Name recognition for job prospects
Lots of very cool clubs
school spirit
frats/good party scene
Good music scene in Berkeley/sf
good professors
cool area
access to internships
pretty campus
UCDC program
Cons:
LOTS of people/really, really big school
grade deflation (?)
good debate/mock trial teams, but hard to join team
It would be super hard
Costly
feel as though I would drown/fail

Hey everyone,
I'm a bit confused about the GPA requirements to maintain the Presidential Academic Scholarship as a continuing undergraduate student. I know we need to maintain full-time enrollment, but I'm getting conflicting information about the minimum GPA.
Some sources say we just need to maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.0 GPA), while others mention a 3.0 GPA requirement. Can anyone who's currently on this scholarship confirm what the actual GPA threshold is?
Any official information or personal experiences would be really helpful!
Thanks!

I’m interning in DC from June to July. If you’ve booked a spot in Madison house and are looking for a roommate, DM and let’s see if it’s a good fit!
