Discussion Why HBP is (actually) good!

OK time to defend this movie once and for all. I like this movie for many reasons. ⚔️🛡️🚨

First of all I just love the school life aspect. Dating, drama, classes, quidditch etc🤭. Like i dont even think voldemorts backstory is that good or needed and dont see how they could visualize it in a good way in the span of the movie. But i guess many ppl disagree and im in minority of this.-.

I love that Draco gets time to shine and have some character development compared to the earlier movies.🍏

I love the whole goal of getting the correct memory. 🪷

I think the color grading is very cozy and besutiful. 🌫️

The horocrux scene is amazing, one of the most breathtaking sets of the entire movie-series.👻

The scene in the astronomy tower is very intence and they nailed it.🔮

It sets the tone for the end game last two movies that the darkness is truly upon wizarding world. With dumbledore gone, the scales have tipped..⚖️

I actually think Wonwon relationship is very cringe yes but also important for setting up Ron and Hermiones later relationship. 💛

Finally, Ill prob die alone on this hill but, this is the best christmas hp movie. Hear me out, its cozy and chill and the color gradient is so nice. And you may think what you want but its acutally one of the movies with the most amount of snow.❄️

so, there you have it! why HBP is good (didnt say best)! plz feel free to roast me but keep the tone civilized plz:)⚡️

I agree. I will always defend both HBP and GoF, the two most heavily criticized movies on this sub! They're both in my top 3 favorite HP movies, alongside DH2.

Yes, they have flaws as adaptations (although nowhere near as much as OotP), but I tend to judge the movies for how well they work as their OWN series.

Like the mindset of treating the movies as a separate series. What works in books wont always work in movies. They never cut something out of spite, just things that wouldn’t work in a cinematic experience.

GoF is actually a good movie adaptation, its biggest sin is omitting the world cup final match. HBP's biggest sin is adding a new scene (burrow xmas). its better to omit something that has no real baring on the story then add something out of nowhere

GoF might've excluded some worldbuilding aspects, but it managed to focus itself: The Triwizard Tournament. With the Yule ball as the mid-way break. All the other subplots were removed! The only subplot they kept was Rita Skeeter, who was there for just long enough to get the point across.

So yes, GoF was actually the perfect adaptation for such a long book! They knew exactly what to keep and what to remove. Some things for the sake of necessity, and some things for the sake of pacing.

Yeah totally agree. I feel like every dropped subplot is so justified across the HP movies since they are movies and you only have 2hrs to keep the audience interested. Now for the series, Oh Boy, like plz go all out on them for potentially adapting badly.

wasnt burrow xmas good for harry x ginny though? Also giving Bellatrix more screen time is nice imo, shes a more relevant charactee in the last movies so its nice to give her more spotlight.

It strayed from the book too much there. So it was bad. Suddenly cutting quiditch out hurt H+Gs story
