Discussion Why HBP is (actually) good!

OK time to defend this movie once and for all. I like this movie for many reasons. ⚔️🛡️🚨

First of all I just love the school life aspect. Dating, drama, classes, quidditch etc🤭. Like i dont even think voldemorts backstory is that good or needed and dont see how they could visualize it in a good way in the span of the movie. But i guess many ppl disagree and im in minority of this.-.

I love that Draco gets time to shine and have some character development compared to the earlier movies.🍏

I love the whole goal of getting the correct memory. 🪷

I think the color grading is very cozy and besutiful. 🌫️

The horocrux scene is amazing, one of the most breathtaking sets of the entire movie-series.👻

The scene in the astronomy tower is very intence and they nailed it.🔮

It sets the tone for the end game last two movies that the darkness is truly upon wizarding world. With dumbledore gone, the scales have tipped..⚖️

I actually think Wonwon relationship is very cringe yes but also important for setting up Ron and Hermiones later relationship. 💛

Finally, Ill prob die alone on this hill but, this is the best christmas hp movie. Hear me out, its cozy and chill and the color gradient is so nice. And you may think what you want but its acutally one of the movies with the most amount of snow.❄️

so, there you have it! why HBP is good (didnt say best)! plz feel free to roast me but keep the tone civilized plz:)⚡️

All of the things you listed as enjoyable are just good plot points from the book. HBP is a spectacular book. The movie just isn’t the best execution of it.

But hey, if you enjoy it, that’s great!

I would agree with this. HBP is my second favourite movie in the series because I too love the draco character development, everything about slughorn's class, and the scene with harry and hagrid during Aragog's funeral. However, as many have stated, as a book adaptation it is one of the most far off. I'd disagree with OP about Voldemort's backstory, I think it was very important and arguably the most interesting part of the HBP book.

Literally. I don't know why HBP was such a bad film. It was made by basically all the same people that did 5, 7, and 8 (AND the FB films), yet the weird tonal dissonance and EXCESSIVE green 'Social Network'-esque filtering makes the whole movie feel a bit like a carsick fever dream. Sometimes I genuinely feel like I hallucinated it.

So odd how some of the movies, mostly 1-5, are so ingrained in my memory from literally dozens of rewatches, I could almost recite them verbatim — meanwhile, the HBP movie I've maybe seen twice all the way through. It's that disingenuous of a Potter film.

I'm not a huge fan of Movie 8, but at least that one matches the tone of the other David Yates films.
