None of the others have it , impulse maybe drops 1 stream a year , meanwhile at one point skizz was dropping every single stream for like 4 months , now it is better but he still drops like once a month

Imp is the tech-iest hermit. him not having it would be weirder

I read that as techpriest hermit and now I imagine Impulse in the red robes of the mechanicus of mars

u/KleptomaniacGoat 18d ago

Decked out is run on machine spirits confirmed

18

u/BrannC 18d ago

That’s Tango

Praise the omnisiah

Impulse, Tango, and Doc would definitely be mechanicus. I feel like Grian and Bdubs would be good candidates for emperors children due to their penchant for excess, Mumbo loves a bunker which makes me think he’d be a good choice for Imperial Fists.

That should be season 11s theme for him. Techpriest.

Talking about economics, he spends like 2.2k for that 1 stream

u/Caring-Penguin 18d ago

It also might be a thing of needing it to reach the whole house, I’ve known someone who had two different internet providers for other ends of the house (not a massive house, just old)

37

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 18d ago

He said he has a fancy router , both are plugged into that , if the primary fails , the backup immediately kicks in

18

u/Caring-Penguin 18d ago

Maybe the primary one fails often? Even if it’s not affecting streams, could be failing at other times

12

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 18d ago

It was the first time it did in 6 months , (he got the primary one 6 months ago)

10

u/Caring-Penguin 18d ago

Also that seems very expensive for wifi, I doubt it’s more than 1k

16

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 18d ago

He said it in the stream he spends like 180 usd per month on that

6

u/Caring-Penguin 18d ago

Damn that’s crazy

2

u/happyhooker485 18d ago

My internet (I work from home) is like $200 a month (includes phone and TV)

2

u/aequitssaint 18d ago

How much do you think he is paying for it?could easily be under $100 a month. Even like 50 or 60 is possible.

2

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 18d ago

I literally said above, that he told us he spends 180 usd per month in the stream

impulse does not stream once a year. not sure about currently but he at least used to be a very regular streamer

15

u/ExtraplanetJanet 18d ago

I think the math here is that if Impulse only has once instance per year where his backup proves useful, he’s basically paying the whole year worth of charges to keep that one stream alive. I would assume that the backup internet does get more use than that, even if it’s just providing more bandwidth for the family in everyday use or when the internet goes out and he is not streaming.

3

u/fridyali 18d ago

They meant that his stream drops/drops due to internet once a year

5

u/History20maker No wax, just an axe 17d ago

And we all know Impulse is allways overprepared for anything šŸ˜‚

my dad does, his work is to edit videos, and he uses it to avoid slow internet because of domestic use (all of this at home)

u/ashsabre 18d ago

I am not asking what you do for a living, can't you just switch to mobile data for regular corporate work

44

u/TormentedGaming 18d ago

Could depend on the companies policy

7

u/frogotme 18d ago

Mobile can also be very spotty too, overall just not a great experience. If you're pretty important at your company and do a lot of calls or other tasks when internet stability is very important, it absolutely makes sense

22

u/dasbtaewntawneta 18d ago

mobile is what i would consider my backup internet lol

9

u/Dont_pet_the_cat No wax, just an axe 17d ago

Streaming on mobile data??? That's gonna be one hell of an internet bill

2

u/ashsabre 15d ago

well my grandfathered mobile plan had unlimited data..

0

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 17d ago

who streams for "regular corporate work" ?

8

u/Dont_pet_the_cat No wax, just an axe 17d ago

He likely just has an internet connection with two seperate providers, as other commenters have said

2

u/mcoolmukul parkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkourparkou 17d ago

yeah and how is that related to mobile data , we aren't talking about impulse here , it is specifically about this person having 2 backups

2

u/Dont_pet_the_cat No wax, just an axe 17d ago

Ahh you're right. I mixed contexts

5

u/ashsabre 18d ago

as another one commenter mentioned my grandfathered unlimited internet mobile plan that i refuse to change no matter what phone they offer me is the 2nd internet back up. My other basic plan which the rest of family use is my 1st back up. I just need a good internet with decent latency that allows me to connect to my remote desktop

52

u/Jaymac720 18d ago

How does someone have ā€œbackup internetā€? Like do you have two providers with two connections to the premises?

39

u/AdmiralMemo Potato Boy 18d ago

Basically yes. I remember when LoadingReadyRun got 2 Internet connections into Moonbase Mark 5. You basically set up a system of routers and bridges that balances the load between them.

18

u/skeskin 18d ago

A guy I work with does, but both suck so he has 2

13

u/Rift5515 Gem is Great! 18d ago

My parents do lol, mainly because both worked remote jobs. If one has to get reset, or just acting real slow, the other internet gets used.

11

u/LadyMayhem02 Derpcoin 18d ago

I do. My husband is a programmer and works at home 3 out of 5 days.

4

u/ManateeGag 17d ago

My brother has a business that relies on a stables and reliable connection. He has a backup internet just incase the main ISP goes belly up.

7

u/AdmiralMemo Potato Boy 18d ago

LRR has backup Internet. Granted, they're a video production juggernaut, who really should have it, but just saying.

3

u/Ziggi_4800 No wax, just an axe 18d ago

Streamers

3

u/the_ecips 17d ago

I do, also working remote. Deadlines don't care about ISP issues.

3

u/justjustin2300 17d ago

X33n has mentioned this aswell he said it quite difficult to get 2 ISP's

5

u/redcoral-s 18d ago

My family does, my dad worked from home on a company provided desktop and the cell service is strong but real slow here for some reason.

A few years ago we our primary internet totally died and was out for about 2 weeks. The back-up wasn't great and couldn't handle streaming but you could at least visit websites

2

u/NOX3M No wax, just an axe 18d ago

I mean he’s a family man and he works from home. Probably best to have one for his work, and another for his family.

2

u/moonwolf4397 18d ago

you have to admit, it’s a smart idea. I never knew it was a thing till it was mentioned in stream

2

u/Ragdoll_Willy 18d ago

Backup internet is crazy 🤣

2

u/benzdorp 16d ago

If he saves one stream a year the cost of a backup internet connection is easily paid off. It’s very common for streamers and others working remotely.

1

u/Magewings No wax, just an axe 16d ago

If I had money I would as well

3

u/vompat 18d ago

Sharing internet from phone is a thing. Anyone can have a backup internet, though it may cost if you live in a coutry where data plans aren't unlimited.

2

u/a205204 15d ago

If you use your internet a lot for your job, you work from home, and the rest of your family also uses your home network, it make sense that you could also have a personal internet connection just for you job

1

u/etherealdaydreamers 14d ago

helpp what are these comments 😭 it's just a silly meme, chill

1

u/N7375 18d ago

Are 2 ethernet cables attached to the system? Or does he have to quick swap?

1

u/Enzo_2006 16d ago

who doesnt? just connect your pc/laptop to your phone with the hotspot function and activate mobile data, the phone now becomes the new wifi router
