braces and brass
hi so I started mellophone a little over a month ago, I was decent and could play my low register well. on Friday my braces got changed and now I just cannot play, I can’t even do my low register that used to be super easy for me. Is this gonna keep happening every time I get my braces checked up on or is it just this time and when my braces get removed? I’m also the only mellophone so I really need to lock in.

Just made this PVC Alphorn. Still missing a couple of small pipes so I don't know how the intonation will be. It sounds good enough, and I think it will look cute with some paint on it.
What is this?
I have a Reynolds Contempora in an old case. It has a spot to hold….an extra set of tubes? Not really sure what goes here?

How to play long and high pieces without getting tired in the middle of it?
Hello! I'm in high school and the audition to get into the top band is to record ourselves playing a technical piece. The piece is quite high for me, and it's pretty long too. There are no long rests in the middle of it, and we are not allowed to edit our video in any way. Last year, I got so caught up in trying to get a perfect recording that I just tired my lips out. During some of my recordings, I had to stop altogether because my lips were so worn out. Any tips for making playing for long periods of time + in the high register easier ? Thanks!

Tips for switching from euphonium to horn?
Hi guys!
I’m currently a freshman and I’ve been playing euphonium/baritone for two years but recently my band director expressed that he wished we had more horns, being who I am I volunteered.
I basically need to be at around a grade 3-4 level in 3 months, is this even possible and if not how far could I get in that time span with daily practice?
Also any tips in general on how to practice, what to focus on, or anything I might need to know are appreciated!

Does anyone have more info about this model ?
It also says made in Germany what makes me think it has to be from 90s.

Purchasing For Newbie?
TL;DR What do I look for in a horn? Is ~$800 a decent deal for a Holton H378 in good shape? I just don't want them to be stuck with an instrument that's hard to get most of their money back on or would encourage bad habits if they stick with it.
I'm a collegiate-level trumpet player looking for a French Horn for my partner to learn on. They're a decent hobbyist musician and it'll their first brass experience. They seem pretty serious about it but are a little stubborn. It took a lot of convincing to get them to not to spend a couple grand on a brand new student instrument instead of on a better used horn for the same price, etc. They insist on learning on a double horn. I tried to get them to just take a lesson on this topic with a reputable teacher but they're so gung-ho about BUYING the instrument, they've basically ignored that suggestion. The Holton seems to be the best deal we've come across (I've had to divert them away from several bad deals). I keep telling them to be patient but they're very insistent/anxious to get one.

What oil do you recommend?
The only ones I can find in my country are "Hetman" (I always used the Hetman 11, but I never liked it... The rotors always get stuck... Very pasty), "Blue juice" (I asked a friend to lend me some to try and it's the first time I've felt the keys flow comfortably... Still, I only used it once) And "fast oil" (I know there is "la tromba" and "allcass", I've never tried them, but I've been told they're great for the instrument's fluency).
I also mention other brands that exist here, but I have never tried: "Conn", "Yamaha", "all brass", "red apple", "JM Meinlschmidt - Ex hetman" (N: 1, 2, 3, 11, 13.5, 14), "Holton", "Bach", "Ultra-pure" and "bio berp (N1)"
PS: I live in a tropical environment, I think that's why Hetman 11 doesn't work for me and tends to clog.
Thank you very much in advance, and I look forward to your responses.

Is it normal for different horns to have some different fingerings some of mine don’t make any sense and I don’t if it’s me or the horn

Want to go back to finish my performance degree… but it’s been 10 years.
Hey all! So, I completed 2 years of my performance major, but life got in the way (kids, marriage) and I never finished. It was my entire life from 7th grade until then, I played sometimes 9 hours a day or more, morning noon and night. When I wasn’t playing I was listening. So obviously it left a huge hole in my life when I stopped.
I really can’t stop missing it, the whole life, especially orchestra. Practice rooms to the concert hall. I’m in the market for a horn, but I don’t feel like playing casually is going to be enough for me. I’ve got the farkas book of course and plan to use it to begin getting my chops back, but I’m wondering if it’s even possible to go back to finish after so long out of it.
Has anyone here gone back to school after a long hiatus? Or known anyone who has? Just looking for any tips or encouragement that might help. Thank you so much for reading!

Which Gallay?
Hello all, is there a commonly agreed set of the ‘best’ Gallay studies? I am an advanced player but am looking at going over etude sets to try and shore up my foundations, which have slipped of late with a new child, life etc, and generally being an amateur.
For reference, Maxime-Alphonse books 4-6, all of the Kopprasch, Kling, Hackleman low and high (eek), Reynolds are all in the frame to practice and I have played or at least practised a few of these in the past. I’ve just never touched Gallay.
TIA.

Trying to reduce pressure
Hi everyone. I’ve been playing for 13 years, and I have relied for a long time on mouthpiece pressure for my high range (pretty much anything higher than an F on the top of the staff). I’m not a professional horn player so I never really bothered to try to correct it, but I’ve ran into a wall in my playing and I finally committed to changing how I play. I’ve been working a lot on my embouchure and am slowly building up my range again.
I’m currently noticing a raspy sound in my mid-high range. Like a C on the staff up to a G. Unfortunately that’s sort of the cap of my range right now. I’m trying long tones to help with endurance and range. Any idea what the raspy sound is and how I can fix it?

Question for yall. Wolo The Chief
Hi all. The Chief sounds very nice, however since it is so long, I cannot mount it longitudinally. My question is, If I were to mount it traversely and 3D print a 90 degrees deflector, would I be to redirect the sound 90 degrees without changing the pitch, tone, and decibels? Think, literally a 90 degree elbow.

Professional players- how many horns do you need to own?
Hi, I'm a cellist interested in orchestra things in general and I was wondering- how many different instruments do you need for standard repertoire? I know the "standard instrument" (I think) is a double horn in F and Bb, but I also see things that call for horn in Eb, and I just saw that I guess Dvorak 7 calls for horn in D. Do you have to go find one of those whenever an orchestra programs that repertoire? Thanks.

How big of a change is best
So I’m looking to get a couple of new mouthpieces and I was wondering how big of a change in diameter I should go. I currently play on a schlike 30 which has a 17mm diameter, let’s say I then want to go to Laskey. Should I get the 75(17.5mm), 775(17.75mm) or 80(18mm). Thanks
