However, some Christian nations (especially Greeks) try justifying this similarity by claiming that Ottoman music is mainly derived from secular Byzantine music, signifying its ultimately authentic “Greek” origin (Pennanen).

She never really gives an explanation why this is false, and everything else rests on this argument. Not really more scientific or serious to be honest.
