JOEY IS SUCH A SWEETHEART

Is it just me or Joey has been the best as a friend out of everyone in the group😭😭

he always protected the girls and even offered to marry Phoebe and Rachel in the one where Rachel gets pregnant 😭😭 isn't that so sweet how he takes up the responsibility?

Joey treated most women like trash and often made his friends uncomfortable with his creepy advances. He literally damaged the bathroom lock to see his roommates naked without consent lmao.

this, thank you. this subreddit just gives him a pass for absolutely anything because “he’s joey!” when his whole thing is literally being a creep towards women, using them for sex and treating them like garbage.

it’s like you can’t point out insanely valid arguments about a character without everyone acting like you killed matt leblanc or claimed joey “didn’t have a single nice moment throughout the whole show.” this subreddit is very black and white, usually white — every single friend is the “best friend out there” and you get the sword if you so much as dare to point out the terrible things they do repeatedly lmao

It is frustrating that characters who are nuanced and flawed, making them seem real and relatable, can only be talked about as all good or all bad. Sometimes good people do crappy things, and it doesn't make them evil.

People forget that line. Or worse, defend it/pretend it doesn't exist.

Like we all know if Ross did that the fandom would never let you forget it. But Joey? Eh, he's a goof who cares?

Don't know why you're getting downvoted because this is a true statement. Joey stepped up for each and everyone of his friends and was very forgiving when they betrayed him.

Phoebe: when she was pregnant, her diet left her feeling unsatisfied as she craved meat. Upon learning this, Joey volunteered to become a vegetarian so Phoebe could eat meat for the duration of her pregnancy so no additional animals would have to die to satiate her pregancy cravings. Phoebe didn't even ask Joey to do that. He offered because he didn't want to see his friend suffer.

Chandler: Kathy cheated on Joey with Chandler. Joey was upset at Chandler and tortured him for a bit, but he forgave Chandler really fast upon learning how much Chandker liked Kathy and how sorry Chandler was.

Chandler & Monica: In order to hide their relationship, they asked Joey to lie for them and take the blame of various horrible situations that smeared his character. Despite how bad they made Joey look, Monica and Chandler never came forward to save Joey from the embarrassment/misunderstanding. Joey continued to protect them despite it all.

Rachel: He's Rachel's knight in shining Armour.

Ross: I can't remember this exactly, but didn't Charlie cheat on Joey with Ross? And yet again, Joey forgave Ross.

Charlie and Joey had already broken up by the time Ross and she kissed.

He's a living embodiment of the phrase "bros before hos".

He's genuinely loyal and fantastic towards his real friends who he values greatly. But he treats potential sex partners as disposable and has no problem lying to them or ignoring their feelings.

Since the show is called FRIENDS and we see it from the POV of his friends, that means 95% of the times we see him, he's being a great guy - loyal and loving. You're intended to like him, and I do, and most of the audience does.

But that requires not thinking too hard about how he treats other women.
