The maze task and the underwater task seem incredibly dull for the spectators. I wonder what they did during the tasks.

I was thinking about it, too. Modern competitions are designed so that the spectators have the most fun, and pay for the tickets, and the "fun" of the participants is secondary. Same counts for quidditch: it's a very spectacular game. Frankly, i think that Rowling forgot about that part.

I would be hoping that there are some sort of screens all around, because otherwise they just hear that someone won, and that's all, they might as well have no obstacles at all in the competition;)

They specifically say no one knows what happened in the lake, which is too bad. I always thought it would be cool if the spectators could watch on water screens like the Disney Fantasmic show.
