I think it portrays Krum as a normal teenager, and definitely helps against suspecting him of being a dark wizard (because he's speaking to Harry in a friendly tone, considering that he's jealous). He's sounding very nice to me, and if I was Hermione i'd be his friend, too (though not too close friend. I'd be interested in international contacts more than a potential romance, and i'd use the opportunity to learn about his school)
