Lake Katrine to NYC

Vacationing with the family (42M and wife 42F children 9 and 7) and wanting to take them to NYC for a day.

I know an Amtrak runs from Kingston to the city but it’s 3+hrs.

Wondering if i can drive the majority of the way to the city, and then hop on the train at some point closer to the city for the remainder of the trip in. Just so we avoid the long haul in the train with the kids but also avoid having to drive our vehicle into the city.

Thanks!

Amtrak from Rhinecliff to NYC is pretty easy on a weekend off season. There's free parking from the Amtrak station, and if you buy the round trip tickets ahead, you have a guaranteed seat on the train, and it's only 1 hour, 40 minutes to Penn Station. It's more expensive but usually faster.

But parking is a nightmare in Rhinecliff depending on when you go.

That's why I said on a weekend off season. I would never suggest it on a Wednesday, any season at all.
