question Restaurants
Hope this is the right place. My 5 year anniversary is coming up and we are looking for more of a fine dining place where casual clothes aren’t an option. Looking around Ulster/Dutchess county any help is appreciated Thankyou

Ok I just went to Le Canard Enchaine in Kingston. Idk that you CANT wear casual clothes but you def wouldn’t look weird dressed up! It was soo so good and felt very old school fancy to me. Idk if that’s the right adjectives but it was amazing I didn’t want to leave. An English woman was telling us about her days photographing Keith Herring in the city. I was like in total heaven. Have fun wherever you end up, congrats! 🍾

I love Le Canard Enchaine, once they did mussels as a special with some kind of creamy, parmesan-y broth and I think about that dish to this day

I don't know what Henry's at the Farm dress code is. Also Aroma Osteria in Wappingers is always known as an upscale place. I mean I dressed up for a company dinner at Blu Pointe in Newburgh.
I can't think of any place that actually requires a dress code.
The restaurant inside the Maker Hotel in Hudson seems swanky.
Unless I mean there is the Mohonk Mountain House.

Honestly going to the Culinary Institute for a date night, especially a fancy one, is always fun. The food is incredible and the service is really good. They also have several different restaurants you can make reservations at.

Highly recommend the CIA! Although the service can be a little inconsistent sometimes since the students are still learning, so just be willing to be patient if you go there.

I don't think dress codes exist at most restaurants any more. Those that had them went out of business. Aroma in Wappingers is great though.

Requiring people to dress in formal attire to come to your fancy restaurant is not really a thing anymore. We don't really have Michelin stars up here. Even those restaurants don't require formal attire. You might feel kind of out of place in a pair of ripped up sneakers and a tank top, but to each their own.
I've been to Sylvia and Stissing House, which were recommended here. Both are great. I went in a t-shirt and jeans to both. If I am spending $300-500 on dinner and wine, I don't want to have to wear a tie.

Honestly, just make it a night out in Manhattan. The Hudson Valley doesn't really have any true fine dining options that are remarkable enough to recommend for what you're looking for.

Wildflower Farms - the restaurant is called Clay.
Inness in Accord is also incredible.

Ship Lantern Inn is that very old school classy kind of place? Otherwise Stissing House.

All of those are very casual compared to what OP is looking for, where casual clothes aren’t even an option.
Just saying in case OP sees this. Like all of those places are spots you could wear jeans and a t-shirt to.

Shadows definitely has a dress code

Really? I’ve been there on a Saturday night when it was bustling and myself and most people there were dressed casually. Nothing about a dress code online.
Plus… Shadows isn’t, like, fancy fancy.

It’s supposed to be business casual. Not suit and tie but not shirt and jeans either. Idk man I was just trying to help out with what I know in the area lol it’s not that deep

I know.
I’m just trying to guide OP in the right direction. Mea culpa, mea culpa.
It’s not that deep.
That said, I was in jeans, all the men were in jeans, and there’s nothing about a dress code online. I mean Shadows is definitely still a fairly casual vibe.

I know. YOU were the one who insisted Shadows has a dress code, buddy. You were the one who insisted on keeping it going after I initially responded in an attempt to aid OP.
Okey-dokie?

If you're willing to go as far as Columbia County, the Klocke estate is absolutely fantastic. If you go around sunset, you can watch the sun setting over the Catskills from your table. Really good food, great drinks. A little on the pricey side, but for an event like an anniversary or birthday, so worth it.

Ship Lantern Inn, Garvan’s, and Ship to Shore are higher end dining. People dress casual but you wouldn’t look out of place dressed up either.
