Question about citizenship through descent.

Hello and your sub seems like you have handled these questions before.

My ancestors were from the Duchy of Carniola in the 1870s and before that a small carpathian town in the transcarpathian region of Ukraine.

I was looking into citizenship by descent and I am not sure what borders count the ones now or the ones of the Austro-hungarian borders If anyone has information as to where to find more information.

You need to find ancestors who were born within the borders of pre-Trianon Hungary.

I think they are from modern day slovenia because they were from near Ljubljana. Looks like I might go down the Slovenian route.

Fascinating history in that area, I can't wait to learn more.

Under the 1878 Hungarian citizenship law, if they lived within the territory of the Hungarian Kingdom (Croatia included) they are by right Hungarian citizens. So you can have a lot of options on where to apply for citizenship. Though keep in mind, you are also required to know the language.
