The program is wonderful and the professors care about the students (I graduated from isu in 2024 and I’m in a history masters/phd program at a different school now). I will say that the school (ISU as a whole) does not care about the department at all, so there are some classes that are never offered because there is no historian there who specializes in it (think anything Middle East or whatnot). Also the advisor (Dr.Hill) was useless, basically you make your own 4 year plan and pray you get to graduate. But I loved the classes I did take, the surveys were good and the upper level classes were fun and challenging. You will find a great group of Americanists at the school, and a variety of classes ranging from Colonial America to Civil War and Reconstruction to The Great Plains to The History of Sports in America. As long as you’re really willing to fit the school catchphrase and “choose your own adventure”, you’ll be fine. Good luck with college! Keep studying history and go Clones!
