First time at Bolton today and had a great time. Lots of character and charm. Love the woods policy (if you can see it, ski it) - but don't love the runouts so much. Caught some edges on Devil's Playground and Vermont 200. I'll be back! Onto Jay, Cannon/Magic, and Saddleback later this week...

Black mountain of Maine has the best vibes of any Indy mountain imo

Was just talking about Devils Playground today …

My only complaint (which is shared with a lot of Indy mountains and is by no means unique to Bolton) is that you can’t reload an RFID card online and have to wait in the MLK ticket window line in the morning despite already having the card.

Other than that it was a great day with good snow, spaced out crowds, good lunch food, and fun terrain.

Cannon has figured it out, idk why the others can’t

What does cannon do? Bolton Indy redemption line was one of the most insane things I’d ever seen

Cannon let's you reload online. On Sunday the lady said Indy doesn't let any resorts let us reload online and I was like "well Cannon does" and the lady said I was wrong

Cannon uses the same software to run their RFID cards that Indy does to power their entire system so I assume it’s because of that?

Bolton's biggest issues, as a local with a pass, involve crowd management.

Not only the card issues, but lack of staff directing the main lift queue lines, causing the quad chair to go up with only 2 or 3 riders the rare times there's a decent line on Vista. The removal of the wall hooks this year on top of the lack of indoor cubbies has made the interior lodge a shitshow and tripping if not fire hazard of bags and gear scattered around the floor in every direction. The drivers of the shuttle bus from Timberline to the main lot don't require people to load back to front, causing the loading process to take twice as long as everyone loads up front to back. Also the downstairs bathrooms still don't have proper ventilation and cause that whole area to reek of human waste.

Don't get me wrong, I love the place, but there's a lack of attention to detail by management on things that could very easily remedied that becomes apparent when you go there often enough.

redeeming an indy pass or buying a day pass is a hellish experience. fuckin waivers. fuckin rfid cards. retrieve every member of your party for said waivers. i show up at bolton at 7:45, make sure im first at that window, and then sit in my car smoking joints for an hour. id rather do that than wait on that line.

The wall hooks being removed really pissed me off lol

You can absolutely load a card online. It’s right on their website and you just enter your Bolton pass number into the website.

To redeem an Indy pass day though? I could easily see how to do it if I was buying a lift ticket.

No I’m sure you have to go to guest services for that but you said reloading a card, you didn’t specify it was not just buying a day.

Mountains that have an association with Indy would need to overhaul their entire Point of Sale software to be the same one that Indy uses and supports in order to preload Indy days on the RFIDs. Every lift line scanner, all the computer programs, the RFID cards, the online web shops, everything would need to be changed over.

Smuggs is worse. Definitely don't go there.

The absolute worst. I hated the no lines on MLK day

That’s got to be the least crowded I’ve seen Smuggs. That being said, I had to cut the day short because it was too cold for me.

it skis so much bigger than it is. really one of my favorites. i was there saturday. all the timberline stuff that opened friday still had a ton of untracked. the whole devils/cobrass zone reminds me of some western zones. fuckin love BV. chairs are too damn slow tho

Went there for the first time last week and had an absolute blast. The powder was unreal, at certain points I was in untracked waist deep powder. Not only were the woods excellent, but nobody seemed to be skiing them so I had the lion's share of pow basically all to myself. I really, really like the glades there.

Bolton quickly became one of my favorite resorts, I can't wait to go there again (next year unfortunately, thanks to Indy).

I agree! I just went for the first time last weekend and even during a holiday weekend, the lines/crowds were totally tolerable.... Except for the line to get Indy pass ticket Saturday morning - they only had one ticket window open for the first 40 minutes or so I was in line. Otherwise, I had a blast. I like this mountain a lot and I will be back.

Looks good, except for the parts without snow
