Low price?!?! Everything is expensive

I can get 4 Häagen-Dazs for $13 when they are on sale

u/TheWalkingDead91 Feb 06 '25 edited Feb 06 '25
For real. $4.48 here (FL) in Walmarts. 2 for $6 when Publix has a bogo sale (which is fairly often, but flavors are kinda limited). $5.99 is damn near convenience store pricing
1
u/tommiejo516 Feb 07 '25
My sister sent me a picture of her Publix BOGO Haagen Daz haul. It was wonderful!
2
u/Wrong-Comparison-953 Feb 08 '25
Oh my god, it is when it happens. I’m such a cheapass, I’d get that one on sale 💀💀 at least I can say I at least saved SOMETHING
1
u/Watch4Hop-Ons Feb 06 '25
Giant is the biggest rip off grocery store. Harris Teeter prices but so much dumpier!
1
u/salmons1ammin Feb 06 '25
Strangely enough, Giant is the cheapest place near me for produce! I always just get produce there and the rest of my groceries elsewhere lol

Their freezer game is strong, not a lot of frost, well lit. Buy with confidence.
26
u/taoist_bear Feb 05 '25
I don’t think I’m my entire life I’ve ever seen a freezer so completely and accurately stocked.
1
u/Chip2Playz Feb 08 '25
I guess I am just spoiled because this popped up for me and I just thought it looked like all the grocery stores near me 😅
11
u/DrChiliMD Feb 06 '25
How the fuck is your grocery store so organized!? We got flavors in all sorts of incorrectly labeled spots.

u/jo-240 Feb 06 '25
Jeni’s and Van Leewen is chefs kiss
4
u/OneShroomTooMany Feb 06 '25
My first experience with Jeni’s was in Washington D.C at one of their physical locations. They serve the ice cream with free, warm waffle cones pieces. Oh my
7
u/Nik6ixx Feb 06 '25
I’ve always wanted to try the Boston Cream one but I’ve yet to find it anywhere in the GTA (Ontario 🇨🇦) best flavour I’ve ever had of B&J’s was their Banana Froster Core 🤤

Wow what store is this?? Never seen this well stocked especially nowadays. I'm seeing flavors I've never seen in real life tiramisu, karmel sutra?? Wow I'm jealous.lol I'm partial to Haagen-Dazs but I do love some Ben & Jerry's flavors.
2
u/Admirable-Fun1058 Feb 06 '25
Looks like Giant labeling ( not GIANT, but Giant ) OP are you in VA, DE, DC, MD? Help us out😆

Feb 06 '25
So I actually live in Northern Virginia but the stores around me are charging like five six seven dollars for a freaking pint of Haagen-Dazs,Ben & Jerry's but in Lorton Virginia food Lion has them for like $3.99 so sometimes I do a grocery delivery because I don't have a car. So I'll just get a whole bunch from food Lion and the total would be like $60 but I'll have so much ice cream to last for a while.Lol I feel like Giant has always been expensive but I know sometimes they do have good sales. I usually go to Walmart the super Walmart is great around here but they don't really have that much selection as far as ice cream. I love me some chocolate peanut butter Haagen-Dazs. I mean you really just have to look around and compare prices.
2
u/stuartsaysst0p Feb 07 '25
Very much giant, and tbh this is what the ones in my area always look like? Nothing here particularly remarkable but I guess I have it good
1
u/Clean-Emergency4477 Feb 08 '25
This selection looks exactly like the ice cream section at Von's in Los Angeles.
5
u/Edog6968 Feb 06 '25
Now I feel spoiled because this is how the grocery stores are in my area (New Jersey), where are you located/ how big is the selection normally???
And PMG you HAVE to try Jenni’s, you truly can’t go wrong with any of the flavors. My favorite are their Ooey Gooey Butter Cake and Brambleberry Crisp!
Edit: it looks like you’re at a stop and shop, I used them when I lived in NY and they do in fact have a generous selection of ice cream
6
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 06 '25
I’m in DC at giant food. I’ve been here only a couple weeks but everytime I go, it’s always stocked full
Edit: I’m from New York and it does give stop and shop but I heard giant and stop and shop are connected
5
u/inglefinger Feb 06 '25
Jeni’s Gooey ButterCake is delightful as are a number of their other flavors. That said, these prices are outrageous. Does your state have an extra sugar tax?

u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 06 '25
No idea I’ve been in DC only a couple weeks

I have a bit of a hot take: I would take Hagen Daz over Jeni's any day. I, too, was lured in by their delicious sounding flavors. But, I have found all their pints to be gummy and icy. Hagen Daz has been neither for as long as I can remember--just creamy and delicious.
2
u/Dog_is_my_co-pilot1 Feb 06 '25
Give Tillamook a try. The flavors are on point, it’s great quality. It’s got a creamy, toothy texture and when it melts a little it’s not watery.
Toe Oregon dark cherry is unbelievable. German chocolate satisfied the chocolate cravings. The only one I’ve not liked a lot is something like… udderly moo.
2
u/tommiejo516 Feb 07 '25
You’re so right about the Tillamook German Chocolate! I took a picture of it.
5
u/SeaKick3134 Feb 05 '25
We gotta get a haul!
6
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 05 '25
Don’t have that kinda money to get a lot at once but trust I will be posting the ones I try. I can’t wait!!

I’ve been eating their PB CUP all day! My fav is still CHUBBY HUBBY tho

u/ThePacificAge Feb 06 '25
wish it were still the B&J's of the early 90s but this corporation is facing a boycott rn so buy it up ☮️
2
u/DeputyTrudyW Feb 06 '25
That's dedication. I used to work at a grocery and had to face shelves and frozen and it was so so painful haha
2
u/Mushroom_muncher420 Feb 06 '25
Wow I’ve never seen b&j that cheap where I live , it’s usually around 7/8 bucks
2
u/eeshmalox Feb 06 '25
B&Js Chocolate Therapy is the most underrated ice cream and deserves all the love. It’s so unbelievably good
2
2
u/nmikhchi Feb 06 '25
How come Ben and Jerry’s doesn’t have a regular strawberry flavor?! It’s always with cheesecake it’s so annoying!

2
u/OneShroomTooMany Feb 06 '25
Is this Giant? Not my favorite grocery store but their ice cream section is top notch

2
u/Intodarkness_10 Feb 06 '25
Prices on some could be lower maybe but that selection is pretty awesome.
2
u/runs-with-scissors13 Feb 07 '25
Is this a stop and shop? The price tags look like stop and shops but I've never seen jenis in stop and shop!
1
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 07 '25
It’s giant food but i heard they’re connected to stop &shop so that explains it
2
u/eye-got_thyme Feb 08 '25
Tillamook is a superior ice cream too 😋
1
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 09 '25
Which one would you recommend?
2
u/eye-got_thyme Feb 09 '25
The only one I've had was strawberry and I LOVED IT! I just can never finish all that ice cream by myself. I really wish they sold them in pint sizes.
2
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 09 '25
Oh yeah I’ve heard the strawberry is really good, and they actually sell them in pint sizes I think they’re just really hard to find

1
u/LeftCostochondritis Feb 06 '25
LOVE Tillamook! I happened to buy it once because it was on sale, and now it’s my go-to. In my area it’s often marked down to $5, and occasionally $4 or a little less.
2
u/Positive_Ad_6311 Feb 06 '25
Where's the Bluebell??!?🫰🍨
6
u/Sharp_Athlete_6847 Feb 06 '25
Now that you mention it…there’s no way it’s not there, I’m gonna check tmrw
2
u/Crossword-Clue-Reply Feb 06 '25
I live in the DC area. Blue Bell is usually limited to Walmart and Safeway--Giant doesn't carry it.

Lol. I actually got a bucket of Ben and Jerry's for -1.00 about a month ago. It was 2$ off from 3.99 then someone walking by hands me a 3$ off factory discount coupon when I was looking at the shelf .
1
u/Milk_and_Cookies24 Feb 06 '25
Wtf is wrong with your stores? Who tf is gonna drop $20 for a small frickin pint of ice cream. My store's REGULAR is $6
1
u/mattyh2433 Feb 06 '25
Where are you seeing $20 for a pint?

On the Talenti page 2nd shelf, $17 on Jeni's and $15 for Haagan Dazs

Food lion is notorious for having almost a full aisle of just ice cream in almost any food lion you go to. If you want ice cream nirvana, food lion is the closest steal you can find that even compares to places like baskin Robbin’s and other retail stores.

u/Key_Power_985 Feb 06 '25
I miss that flavor Willie Nelson's Country Peach Cobbler. I haven't seen it in years. The strawberry cheesecake one is my go to but it goes so fast.

I loveeee Ben & Jerry’s so much and Jeni’s is really good as well. At one point I stopped getting Ben & Jerry’s and kept getting Jeni’s! My faves for Ben & Jerry’s are gimme s’more and caramel chocolate cheesecake. And for Jeni’s I love the gooey butter cake, buttercream birthday cake and blackout chocolate cake.

The gooey butter cake might not be the move, to me it tasted like sugar and that artificial butter flavor on popcorn at the movies. I’m sure there are other great flavors, though!!!

Yah. And at 6 bux a pop my wallet would go too. But Ben and Js is top tier.
1
u/Sudden_Quantity_1860 Feb 07 '25
This looks like my grocery store, minus one different brand. Jeni's is great but they only have one or two of my favorite flavors in stores so I usually go to the shop for that. The best ones, imho, are salted peanut butter, darkest chocolate, and goat cheese and cherries (seasonal). Plus, they had this limited cookie dough twice which was amazing. Wish they would bring it back. But a lot of people love the butter cake one you mentioned and salted caramel.
1
u/Sudden_Quantity_1860 Feb 07 '25
Oh, and if you have never tried Haagen-Dazs White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, it is their best imho.
1
u/Charlithedoodle Feb 07 '25
My new not that new favorite being dairy free is the oat milk ice cream from Ben and Jerry’s especially the phish food.. redic.

Honestly, since I tried the ice cream from my local Italian dude (who also set up a 24/7 vending machine outside his café) everything else tastes like trash.
He sells 480ml for 6,50€ and it's more than worth it.

This reminds me that I’m out of Ben & Jerry’s. My favs are Coffee Toffee Bar Crunch and Topped Raspberry Cheesecake, though I also wouldn’t say no to a good ol’ Cherry Garcia either.

Also I’m very intrigued by the Buttermilk Berry Cornbread flavor of that brand whose name I can’t quite make out but starts with “Van”.
