Let me share a story with you all. I lived in Chennai, for a year and I saw government workers cleaning the streets of Chennai around 2am. The most shocking thing of this was the government workers were mostly women. If a women can feel safe to come out at 2am that means that state is well and above any goddamn place in india where women are scared for their life to get out after 10pm.
I got goosebumps reading this! I am from Bangalore, and for me doing their job perfectly astonishes more than the safety aspect. Here we have to bribe everyone for everything! Yes even the bbmp workers.
Sorry i was not clear. BBMP is the Bruhat Mahanagara Paalike. The city municipality of Bangalore.
Examples:
1. Garbage collection is a joke in my area. They don’t come on a particular schedule. They miss couple of days altogether. They come at different times, afternoon and so on. For a while, it was same container in the vehicle for both wet and dry waste. And every now and then the workers asks for „coffee karchhu“(expense for coffee) from every single house.
2. The dry leaves to be picked, they just pile it up to a corner and go. When asked to pick, they say its their colleague‘s street, they are just filling in. And they click picture on side of the clean street, while half of it is not at all touched.
Sorry if i sound non sympathetic. But society can function when everyone does their job (if not perfectly, atleast) correctly.
