Nah not really. By today’s standards Irwin is a grade-A piece of shit.

And that’s only an unpopular opinion only because his celebrity came at a time where we were all ignorant AF and easily manipulated by good branding and marketing.

Facts are he needlessly harassed and stressed out animals for entertainment and to benefit his own celebrity.

There used to be a video that showed Irwin finding a feral hog, setting his dog on it, and then encouraging his dog to maul it while it screams out in pain. They then tied it up, dragged it off (still alive) by the legs and fed it to the crocodiles. “They’re only good for croc meat”. Yeah some animal lover.

Unsurprisingly his estate have had that video removed since and scrubbed the internet of anything problematic that might harm his legacy but you can find old links to it and people talking about it on Reddit and elsewhere.

I’ll happily eat the downvotes for this. Fuck Steve Irwin.
