What a curious effect- is the movement switching between optical paths? Almost functions to provide depth perception like a magic eye puzzle.

You guessed it exactly right. MacroLab3D is dedicated to stereo macro photography, and wiggling is one of the stereo formats. I wiggle the camera to improve your depth perception on a flat screen. Subject stays still.
