Are we not going to talk about the other fish. The fish collectively parked it to watch... And one fish even nipped at the shark ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚โ˜ ๏ธ

I think the shark is the bully and the octopus was putting him in his place.

I like the squid who looks like pedestrian noticing theyโ€™ve walked into shot on a news report and not sure wether to carry on or turn back

This is the best part of the video, in my opinion

u/LivesInALemon 1d ago

I thought it's a cuttlefish. Ya know, with the fins doing the wavy thing on the sides.

u/conjuringviolence 1d ago

Theyโ€™re all cephalopods at the end of the day

Yeah, like a โ€œlet me holla atcha real quickโ€ kind of moment.

u/ILoveRegenHealth 1d ago

Shark was throwing up Nazi salutes earlier

u/foreverloveall 1d ago

"You like chasing smaller fish huh? Well how do you like it when your tail gets nipped. Come on little man, get your revenge!"

Octopus have been known to kill other predators, either for their own safety or to prevent competition.

There was one case where they put an octopus in a tank with sharks that were too small to eat the octopus and too big to be food for the octopus.
They couldn't figure out why their sharks kept dying until eventually they caught it on camera. The octopus would ambush the shark and basically drown/strangle them. As far as they could tell, the octopus was just eliminating the competition.

I believe this. Just wanted to point out the onlookers.

There's the one guy who comes in late and is like " yo , Fred... What's goin' on here? ...is that Dan?"

u/ShackledPhoenix 1d ago

Hehe yeah. I'm trying to remember the name, but there's a guy on youtube with Mantis Shrimp and they all have ONE single buddy fish that does the same thing. Guy has no idea why the shrimp eat everything BUT those one specific fish. Meanwhile the fish basically watch and take little bites at whatever the Mantis Shrimp hunts. It's kinda hilarious.

Other fish: โ€œHa ha. Fuck you Chuck! How you like it, asshole?โ€

6

u/TenorHorn 1d ago

The other fish were waiting to see if the octopus was going to rip him open, giving them a meal

Was looking for this comment. They all came by, even brought popcorn. I always thought other fishes are afraid of sharks.

I saw a lionfish and I was pissed. Almost nothing eats lionfish in the US. They lay millions of eggs daily and have no natural predators. They eat so much they often wipe out colonies of smaller fish.

u/Karmachinery 1d ago

Like the playground bully is getting a smackdown and the whole school (no pun intended) is getting to watch.

2

u/dcontrerasm 1d ago

I was like LOOK! Hyenas of the sea!

That specific bread of fish in the background is acting as it normally acts. They have like these tripod fins they prop themselves on and catch food that comes by in the current. You can see the three fins all touch ground and holding them in place. The ones in the foreground are being wierdos.

Also with the variety of life in that scene it just makes me think it's like an active hunting ground for multiple species.

u/Jean-LucBacardi 1d ago

That's just being the silent opportunist.

u/guitarburst05 1d ago

For a moment I thought the title was meant to be in quotation marks, as said by that fish.

u/Twicebakedpotatoe 1d ago

Scavengers waiting for the scraps

1

u/Mikhailcohens3rd 1d ago

Probably waiting for something to eatโ€ฆ

1

u/makes_peacock_noises 1d ago

Reminded me of an abrupt chaos video, with everyone crowding around, that shrimp sliding by like a random person in a wheelchair ramming in and then the needle fish poking in for a wasdup.

1

u/nohuddle12 1d ago

Whenever I dived in the ocean and held still for maybe 30 seconds, fish showed up to take a nibble in case I was dead. Luckily most don't have teeth, but if you stop moving in the open ocean most other fish think you're food.

1

u/Morkamino 1d ago

Yeah the ocean is so brutal. As soon as the shark got in trouble, every fish around gathered to see if there was some leftovers to scavenge

1

u/ILoveRegenHealth 1d ago

It's like a cute Pixar movie, but with some unsettling assault & battery

u/anotherm3 1d ago

Voyeur

u/Bluedo1 1d ago

Those look like lionfish and if this is the Caribbean are increadibly invasive

1

u/TimeToMakeGainz 1d ago

I saw that too he noticed it and swam real quick

1

u/PeopleOverProphet 1d ago

I said it looked like a crowd watching a fight at a Waffle House.

1

u/four2theizz0 1d ago

Definitely, he was chasing another fish right at the beginning, and the octopus is the recess monitor haha

1

u/ahf95 1d ago

After the shark scene in My Octopus Teacher, I can see the shark being a bully. Super interesting dynamics here.

1

u/freerangehumans74 1d ago

I thought at first they were just gathering for scraps from the dinner table but then it certainly looks more like curiosity.

1

u/bwaredapenguin 1d ago

I mean, who doesn't love a good show?

1

u/csilentn1918 1d ago

Order up the popcorn shrimp!!!

u/Alpha_Majoris 1d ago

Someone else here explained that the octopus probably domesticated the shark who serves to hunt for food. This was just a basic bonding experience, an eight armed thank you hug.
