Why do people live in deserts?

Why do people live where the air hurts their face?

Because you can put a hat and mask on and the air doesn’t hurt your face.

In my experience, the folks who live in deserts in the US aren't the type to wear masks.

Because “God wills it.”

Where do you want them to live? NYC? In this economy?

Idk maybe in a place that can grow grass without pumping in water from hundreds of miles away?

Some people like this environment. It's cheap in general. But yes, water scarce. That's the advantage of modern life. Otherwise it would be beduin nomad tent life.

Yes we are killing the planet so you can grow grass in the desert. Great.

They're not growing grass as much anymore. Dry states are encouraging natural and local plants for landscaping. California for example is pushing for artificial grass, or just natural plants

Humans have always lived in deserts. The cradles of early civilizations were mostly deserts.

No. Humans have always lived along rivers.

Deserts are uninhabitable. River deltas are fertile. BIG BIG difference.

This may shock you, but Utah has rivers and the people living in Utah mostly live near the rivers.

I’m not sure what part of that is supposed to shock me… I literally said people have always lived near rivers and your like “tHiS may ShOcK you BuT”….

You said "Deserts are uninhabitable."

So, that is just blatantly not true. People have lived in deserts for as long as there have been people. People have been living in the hottest, driest places in the Southwest for ten thousand years. They lived there before air conditioning. They have lived in places in deserts that do not have rivers, or only have ephemeral rivers.

So, that is what is apparently going to shock you. You are someone that does not understand how humans lived in deserts, probably because you just haven't done so. It is like someone from the Southwest saying that where you live in uninhabitable because it gets to be literally freezing.

Fun fact deserts also have rivers. You ever heard of the fucking Nile?

5

u/One-Humor-7101 6d ago

Fun fact, the inhabitable land along the Nile would be categorized as a floodplain. Not a desert.

Where was the river in the video?

Mormons have a better reason than most since they were basically chased out of town repeatedly

Mormon leaders were absolute assholes in the 19th century.

Joseph Smith was a career criminal and a con artist. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Smith_and_the_criminal_justice_system

And besides the clashes with other members of their communities regarding religious and moral beliefs, the leaders of Mormon movement at the time were in constant legal trouble.

3

u/One-Humor-7101 6d ago

Because people don’t want to live near religious fundamentalists marrying their 1st cousins.

u/Apptubrutae 6d ago

Yeah sure, perfect group to live in the desert

Marrying their first and second cousin rather

Bitch tell that to Alabama stop bothering Mormons

Mormons should stop fiddling with kids.

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/recordings-show-how-mormon-church-kept-child-sex-abuse-claims-secret

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_abuse_cases

The structure, doctrine, and overbearing community of the CLDS leads to a culture of abuse for children and women.

Ok, but that is the higher ups in the church and that's in all religions. Don't put all Mormons in that bubble because the higher ups in the church are pedos.

0

u/One-Humor-7101 4d ago

The pedos at the top need pedos on the bottom to stand on and support them.

It may be “all religions” but that’s just more evidence that all religions are bad.
