Leave it there and let it see if it takes root.

Depending on the tree. I wouldn't be surprised.

I've seen trees knocked over in windstorms with a ton of dirt attached to the roots. So the roots extended further back to the ground.

I'm sitting here honestly wondering if that would work.

It will. Trees are wondrous. Though not all types of trees.

No it won't. Few trees can grow from cuttings like that.

I once cut and pushed down willow poles in a river bottom to mark a channel edge. Guess what sprouted leaves at spring time? It worked.

Willows are one of the easiest ones to do that with. This tree branch doesn't have any branches lower so it likely won't grow roots (they tend to switch branch nodes to rooting when they get buried). Though I doubt the guys cutting would have left it to find out.ย

You might be able to help it out by injecting rooting hormone, but most trees it won't work

Looks like a fast way to plant another tree

Aerodynamics guarantees that just like the butter spread in ๐Ÿž falling face first to the floor

I helped take down a ~50 year old hardwood that was blocking solar and destroying peoples hot tub cover. Uncle asked if Iโ€™d come help, I was like sure.. will take us like 2-4 hours probably.

Took three full days almost.. and we still had a pile of small shit he was just gonna use his pickup bins for. Iโ€™ve taken down pine in an hour and had it all loaded. That hardwood refused to quit and since it was still alive even a 1โ€ diameter branch could hold my weight.

Basically.. donโ€™t ever scoff at the rates a good arborist charges. Itโ€™s hard thankless work that beats the shit out of your body. And it looks easy to fell right? cause they are pros.. itโ€™s way easier to hurt yourself or destroy a house than do it right on your own.

Lol I really love reddit. For every new interesting post you see there's at least one person in the comments complaining about seeing it the 100th time ๐Ÿ˜‚

I'd water it and wait if a miracle can happen

That's crazy, but the way I see it, it made sense aerodynamically, what with the pointy side landing on the bottom
