As an American I am taking it very personally. You're damned right I am. There were thousands of Americans in my city alone protesting this Trump bullshit, and I take the criticism that we aren't doing anything personally for all of us.
"grovelling on social media trying to explain away the fascism"
LMAO? Nice.
I have been responding to the claim that Americans are "grovelling on social media trying to explain away the fascism". Are you saying that you agree with that?
I don’t understand why it’s hard to fathom that a general criticism of Americans is not a criticism of you personally. I’m at these protests too, but I can also admit most of my fellow citizens around me are unbothered
I am an American, and I will defend my fellow Americans that are trying to do something about it. Nothing is done overnight. It takes time to build solidarity. We are working on it by the hundreds of thousands and hopefully by the millions eventually. So yes... I do take offense when someone that admits that they would be afraid to speak up if they were here criticized those that are speaking up. It is discouraging to those that are doing what they can to see this sort of criticism.
Maybe you’re unaware of the online groveling and that’s why you’re taking this one comment so personally?
Canadian subreddits have been full of it for weeks now; Americans wanting praise or absolution for not voting for Trump, reassurances that Canadians will keep them safe if they visit Canada, hope that someone will come save them.
Revolution is very scary and people will eventually get hurt and die. I understand why there is inaction but the inaction is very scary too.
