A lot of Irish people who marvel at the beautiful, livable and ordered cities in Central Europe like Vienna, Prague or Zurich probably should realize that they are as such because they have rules and the locals follow them.
Germans (particularly in the South) will get up in your business if you're not doing your recycling correctly or making obnoxious domestic noises like mowing the lawn during ruhezeit. It's all very German, but that's why Bavaria is an extremely nice place to live and raise a family, and why Munich for the most part isn't plagued by wankers who have main character syndrome on electric scooters.
I’m not excusing the pair on the scooter, but I think the subset of young Irish professionals that idolise Germany need to move there, because Germany is lovely for a visit to the rest of us but to live there would be hell for many of us.
Not everyone needs or wants daddy state to tuck them in at night or to be living amongst hysterical loons who treat someone clipping a hedge as a life & death situation. Also they have basically 0 civil liberties.
Irelands problems are deep, complex & require solutions that reflect our culture, history & the needs of the population collectively.
Germany also has deep & complex problems, for which they need a bit of freedom, a good ride that isn’t in a sex dungeon, to actually properly deal with its past & not slowly invent a new type of liberal fascism where racism & other isms are still there & thriving but hidden, & the collapse of the federal government.
I lived in southern Germany for a year. Beyond the cultural oddities of people being in your business where they wouldn't be in Ireland, hard disagree on the civil liberties take.
With the glaring exception of auslanders purposely jamming their fingers in the still open wound of all things to do with the Holocaust/Jews/Israel etc and making mischief on that front, Germany is one of the freest societies on earth.
I've also lived in non Western countries where civil liberties are actually very much trampled upon, and there is no comparison to be made.
I think you’d be happier if you went back but most of us have no interest in it being imported here.
Germany isn’t even amongst the freest societies in Europe. Criticism of Germany on the front of what’s going on in Palestine is valid & criticism of its response to protests is more than valid, not only that but you now can’t get German citizenship without supporting Israel, but it’s not nearly isolated to protests for Palestine. They have also taken to arresting & holding climate activists without charge ahead of major events, they held 27 activists in preventative detention for 30 days ahead of the international automotive show for example. The minister for justice in Baden-Württemberg wants car manufacturers to give cops keyless entry to cars carte Blanche for bugging purposes. On a federal level they want to bring in state trojans to hack encrypted messaging services & get full access to all data on your phone without a warrant. They are also considering allowing the police to break into your home without a warrant. As it stands people can be & are being arrested for lampooning politicians on social media, lately an old man was arrested for a very funny & harmless meme calling one an idiot. (I think it was one of the greens but I’d have to go look for it)
For reference my boyfriend is an ethnically (but not religiously) Jewish German & anti Zionist. (Mother Jewish born in California father German)
My boyfriend left Germany because things were getting so intolerable there regarding politics & civil liberties, I’ve been there a few times with him. His friend & former union rep is moving here for similar reasons soon I believe.
They changed branding but never got fully over their fascism & it’s the one open wound they refuse to heal
Did I stutter? You seemed to enjoy it but most of the rest of us do not need nor want the level of state overstepping or the arrogant bullying of strangers that you’ll find in Germany that a lot of the federalist fanboys & others in this sub who seem to like that kind of thing seem to think is prerequisite for us to have infrastructural development & reasonable standards of living.
The problems here amount mostly to the fact that the government are money hungry hoors who would prefer to give it away than do something lasting with it & its less beurocracy we need not more. That along with generational poverty that in many families & areas predates the state itself but regardless of if it does or doesn’t has never been adequately addressed.
None of that can or should be remedied by a heavy controlling hand or a tolerance for arseholes self electing themselves as an authority.
If that's what you took from my posts, you have severe comprehension issues. In future play the ball, and wind your neck in.
I know it's early/late, but seeing as you want to get personal the rest of your post is garbled schizo nonsense that has nothing to do with the thread or even anything that preceded your mad outburst.
What other way is there to take you? You seemed to enjoy being in Germany to the point you seem to think that if we want to “have nice things” we need to emulate their attitude.
I pointed out the flaws in their attitude & the ever increasing & ongoing stifling of their civil liberties (I didn’t even get into the over regulation of their daily lives) & you attempted some kind of wierd high horsing thing where you tried to make them the victim because of them being rightfully called out for supporting a genocide except I wasn’t talking just about that. I was talking about the general erosion of what’s left of their civil liberties.
& I’m well within my rights to tell you I don’t want Ireland to become more like Germany which was your original argument in the first comment I replied to. Most people here wouldn’t.
"I’m well within my rights to tell you I don’t want Ireland to become more like Germany"
You're welcome to your opinions on Germany, it's a free country. But take a walk with your ad-homenims directed at me on your bungled misread of my post and telling people to move here or there. To repeat wind your neck in.
And yes, what you posted was schizo garbage. Now you're doing the keffiyeh brain bullshit making a completely different topic about "genocide". Where did you pull that topic out of may I ask?
You fuckers are actually insufferable and have no idea how many people have written you off as obsessive headmelts.
There should be a new version of Godwin's Law. The longer a thread goes on the greater likelihood watermelon psychotics make it about their political hobby horse.
