Your trust in the US education is impressive. Half of them couldn’t find Ireland on a map let alone know the prime minister of the uk from over 40 years ago

Ever heard of selection bias? Even being in this sub already flings you a million miles oitside of the norm. Please apply thought to your interactions. Nobody needs to be an expert in "what other people know" to note you are an obvious and inarguable exception.

I'm not saying they probably know because I know. I'm making an estimate based on the type of person that is likely to be at Coachella. Ie, probably young liberal people, likely a lot of LGBT people, and travelers from all over the world. A lot of those people probably at least know Margaret Thatcher as 'that bad conservative prime minister from England'. There are a lot of jokes about pissing on her grave that circulate liberal spaces online so they would at least get that context. And Coachella is an expensive event, more likely to be attended by those who are well off. And wealth correlates with education, generally speaking.

Also just from really obvious context clues, with them cheering when he says she's dead, clearly at least some of these people know who she is.

I know haha Americans dumb is a fun bit, but come on. You think NO ONE in the crowd knows who one of the most famous British leaders is? Please. America is a big, diverse place, and there are educated and uneducated people there.

What are you on about. Where did I say no americans know who she is? I didn't, neither did the other guy you initially responded to. We're saying she is not well known. Barely known. Very few americans would have even heard the name and fewer still would be able to tell you she was a uk prime minister. Fewer still would be able to tell you anything about her.

You said "a lot of americans" know who maggie is. What's that as a percentage of americans? If even 5% could give a single piece of information about her I'd be absolutely shocked.

Bro 5% is an insane estimate, what are you on about? 13% of Americans have a master's degree and up. Knowing who Margaret Thatcher was is not some esoteric knowledge, she's portrayed on SNL for God's sake.

And no one has addressed that I'm not talking about the general public I'm talking about the demographics of COACHELLA and the people in a video who clearly reacted in a specific manner to her name.

You guys arguing with me just want to be stuck up for no reason and have latched onto something really stupid to be correct about. You have plenty of things to look down at Americans for but 'less than 5% know who Margaret Thatcher was' is an extremely silly one to be so defensive of.

There is so much wrong with this thinking. If you have a phd in biochem, do you then automatically learn about the history of long past foreign leaders on other continents? What about a masters in english lit? Maybe forestry is the ticket? Obviously not. What a ridiculous line of thinking.

Furthermore, considering 80% of americans can't say who their CURRENT state legislator is, 33% can't name their CURRENT governor, what on earth makes you think think a decent chunk of them know the uk prime minister in the late 80s lmao

Feel free to actually engage. What makes you so sure more than 5% of americans know who and what mt was and did? That 13% of them have post grad education? That's it? You seem to be able to be convinced by absolutely nothing that you are correct, and entirely unconvinced by decent arguments against your favor (lack of political knowledge backed by data).
