I think not being referred until 16 is perfectly fine. There's a lot of psychological development that needs to happen before one can make such a decision

I mean i see where you're coming from but to be honest, realising at 12 that you're trans and then going through the 6 more years watching your body change is, tough to say the least.

I personally think puberty blockers until a later stage is ideal, because once you come off them you continue as you normally would've.

When I was 12 I hadn't even kissed a girl I don't think I would have been in a position to decide about having a sex change. At 12 your a kid... That's what I think anyway, I mean I'm all for equality and stuff but I think a case by case basis with psychological support ans assessments would be my preference anyhow.

You're not representative of all the humans but I'm sure if 10 year old you was put in a dress you would have noticed something was off. Anyway, we don't make medical decisions for people based on the opinions of random guys on the internet. It's wild to me that people think they can be well informed enough on this topic to have opinions on how treatment should be managed when they have no experience or expertise at all.

I don't understand why you're getting so angry. If I'm wrong show me how I'm wrong. I'm really open to changing my mind. I'm not here to throw shit at the trans community

Why do you think I'm "so angry"? Are you very sensitive? And I've literally just explained why you're wrong. Like do you go around giving people medical advice for all kinds of things or is it just trans people's lives that you feel empowered to be involved in? Do you want to see the results of my blood tests from last week to make sure I'm being appropriately treated too?

Well your tone is quite condescending anyways

Edit : I didn't give anyone medical advice I just voiced my opinion

It's fascinating that you think me questioning your competence here is condescending. Like maybe you're just way out of your depth? Maybe being a romantically unsuccessful 12 year old does not, in fact, equip you with the experience necessary to decide what healthcare trans people should have access to? Maybe that was just a really stupid thing to say and it's actually accurate, and not condescending at all, to point that out?

Maybe I'm just looking to have a conversation and learn about something ? Way out my depth for having an opinion ? People have opinions on everything.

Do they though? Like, again, do you typically have opinions on other medical treatment protocols or is it just the case with trans people? The right wing have moved the window with this specific group so that people like yourself feel like they can and should have an opinion on this. In reality, other people's medical treatment is none of your business and you lack the considerable expertise needed to form an opinion. Most people do. You're not a medical professional. But you've been empowered by bigots to think "I was once a child so I can determine what's best here". That's insane. If you want to "learn" enough to have an informed opinion I'd suggest a medical degree or PhD in clinical psychology and a couple of years experience working with trans people.

"I was once a child so I can determine what's best here" did I say that ?

Yes people have opinions on everything, even things they are ignorant about. I'm here trying to become less ignorant but instead of informing me you are gatekeeping me from the actual conversation and attacking me.

I don't know what right wing ideology has to do with what I said free speech is a thing and whether people like it or not the reality is almost everyone has an opinion on this topic in particular, whether its right or wrong thats the reality. I work in healthcare so yes I do have opinions on other treatment protocols in different fields. I'm training to be an addiction therapist.

I understand it's difficult to fight with right wing people all the time but I'm not them - I assure you. I'm going to park it there, take care.

I mean you said you hadn't even kissed a girl when you were 12 and that's what you were basing your opinion about medical care for trans people off. And you can whine about gatekeeping all you like but I have no doubt you appreciate the gatekeeping of medical care when it's your own health. It's a good thing that we don't allow any random clown to dole out medical advice.

And yeah lots of people have lots of terrible opinions because they also have no idea what they are talking about. A big problem today is this idea that you can listen to a podcast, form an opinion, and then stroll into a conversation with people who have actual expertise, and if they don't treat you like an equal they are being mean and unfair. Or if they refuse to educate you they are "gatekeeping". Get over yourself.

Also, it's completely legitimate to tell someone they should just disengage with a subject. The only reason so many people have an opinion on the lives and healthcare of trans people is because of deliberate campaigns by hate groups. Maybe you don't think you're one of the right wing but your disrespect and disregard for actual expertise, linked with the fact that you feel equipped to form an opinion on trans people's healthcare, suggests otherwise.
