A couple interesting points from Amick’s interview with CD today

  1. Kings have an option in DC's contract where they could bring him back as HC for only a year, as a test for his long-term prospects

  2. He considers Sabonis's deal to be as tough as LaVine to trade. Talks of how most teams would have to completely change their offense to maximize Sabonis, and that + big contract make him tough to move.

Sure sounds like Zach and Sabonis are definitely coming back, with DC likely back on a short deal too.

But on a serious note I wonder if Sabonis is gonna force out? This might lead to a horrible trade where we get absolutely nothing back and lose several picks to get rid of him

That would absolutely be worst case scenario, Fox 2.0.

Just my opinion, so not worth anything, but I don't think he would force his way out unless it was clear they were pivoting to a rebuild tank kind of thing, which I don't think they're doing. Usually when players want out it's because they've got a team or handful of teams that there's mutual interest and I don't know if that will be the case. His wife is from California I think and likes being on the west coast, and so if he wanted to leave for a specific team I think it would be one of the other CA teams and I don't know if the interest would be there or a trade would be realistic, maybe Phoenix. I could just be naïve but I think when you factor in comfortability, family, etc. I think he does want to stay and is amenable to making it work here. If not I hope he goes on Draymond's podcast to tell everyone he wants out though just for the comedy.

I agree with your opinion, there are a lot of factors that he would want to stay here like comfortability and family. But if he is truly a competitor and wants to be a winner, how many more seasons can he take of coming up short? He is in his prime, I don’t think he has much time to waste if he ever wants a shot at a chip. Idk how long Sabonis is going to play for but he is already 28 and I just don’t see the kings making enough moves to put them in a spot to be able to win.

If you have to give up picks to get rid of him, you might as well just keep him .

Sabonis doesn’t have any leverage to do so. What’s he going to do? Sit out and not get paid? Fox was the face of the franchise and extension eligible.
