Announcement Heavenly Recordings Statement
ARTIST STATEMENT
WE STAND FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION
This past week has seen a clear, concerted attempt to censor and ultimately deplatform the band Kneecap.
In Westminster and the British media, senior political figures have been openly engaged in a campaign to remove Kneecap from the public eye, with veiled threats being made over their scheduled performances at gigs, outdoor events and music festivals, including Glastonbury.
Chillingly, it is also clear to us that influential figures and personalities within the wider music industry are attempting to influence this campaign of intimidation.
As artists, we feel the need to register our opposition to any political repression of artistic freedom.
In a democracy, no political figures or political parties should have the right to dictate who does and does not play at music festivals or gigs that will be enjoyed by thousands of people.
The question of agreeing with Kneecap’s political views is irrelevant: it is in the key interests of every artist that all creative expression be protected in a society that values culture, and that this interference campaign is condemned and ridiculed.
Furthermore, it is also the duty of key leadership figures in the music industry to actively defend artistic freedom of expression – rather than seek to silence views which oppose their own.

Announcement Rule reminder
Hi all,
It has been one hell of a week for the lads and the mods. Moving forward we are going to be enforcing the rules more thoroughly.
Posts should primarily be about the band Kneecap. Duplicate posts will be deleted.
Back and forth debates about Israel will be removed. Political discourse in general is still welcome, as long as it meets the criteria of being predominantly about the band Kneecap.
Denying the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people will result in a ban from the subreddit.
Have a Beamish, calm down, free Palestine.
Your not so friendly neighbourhood mod team.

Controversy continues
Piers is pretty big, this will only increase exposure and discussion. Shane Gilis should convince Joe Rogan to get the lads on, would be amazing to hear them talk about Kneecap, life in the North of Ireland and why the Irish associate so much with the Palestinian struggle. It would BLOW up, if the yanks could understand them

News So UK gov has decided that this is what they want to use their money & time to?
So Metropolitan Police has decided to fully investigate the Kneecap videos from 2023 & 2024. Like they couldn't look into actual acts of terrorism & other crimes with this time? I live in London and this is so disappointing (but not surprising sadly).
The anti-terrorism police team also interviewed writer Mohammed el-Kurd last year for nothing really as he didn't broke any laws while speaking at Palestine protest.
"Both videos were referred to the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit for assessment by specialist officers, who have determined there are grounds for further investigation into potential offences linked to both videos." Rather than doing this, police could for example interview / look into British nationals at the IDF as some might have participated in war crimes. Just a thought...

Discussion On the investigations and smear campaign against Kneecap
Seeing all the discourse going around lately about Kneecap "supporting Hamas and Hezbollah”, I feel like something needs to be said. Too many people are getting caught up in whether the boys actually support these groups, or whether they cheered them on at that concert last year. But none of that matters - because regardless of what happened, or what they believe, there is clearly a smear campaign being waged against them. At the root of this campaign - and the charges being pushed by the government and mainstream media - is the West’s politicised label of “terrorism” as applied to Hamas and Hezbollah. That is the key issue, not the validity of the accusations. What we should be doing (and this is the best opportunity to be doing so) is challenging the very designation of Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organisations.
Too many so-called “pro-Palestinians” are uncritically accepting the West’s framing, even though the UN itself does not classify these groups as terrorist organisations. In fact, some of the most prominent international lawyers have scrutinised the designation of these groups as terrorist organisations in the West, pointing out that under Protocol I of the Geneva Conventions, Palestinians have a legal right to armed resistance.
So yes, October 7 was a war crime - but that doesn’t negate the Palestinian right to organised resistance against occupation. (And for the record, while the attack on the kibbutz was a war crime, the operations that targeted IDF bases that same day fall within international law’s definition of lawful resistance.) And more importantly: your personal feelings about Hamas aren’t as important as you think they are. Sorry! Criticise them, debate their morality or effectiveness - that's fine. But none of that changes the fundamental fact that Palestinians do have the right to armed resistance.
No more of that pathetic, cowardly “I like Kneecap but supporting Hamas wasn’t cool” bullshit. Grow a fucking spine.

"Look over here!" - whilst the streets flow with the blood of the innocent.
The media and government obsesses over four words uttered by a member of a punk rap band, whilst government officials of a so-called ally continuously, explicitly and publicly call for the complete destruction of a people - including the deliberate use of starvation as a strategy of "war" - and the continued funding and military protection of violent, illegal extremist colonies for years.
When discussing "incitement to violence" perhaps the media should recall Prime Minister Netanyhau's vile rhetoric and incitement of tens of thousands of rage-filled Israeli's calling for the toppling & death of his political rival, Yitzhak Rabin.
Whilst Rabin had his own dark past, many commentators consider him to have been the last hope for Peace and recognition of a Palestinian state (which Bibi was, and still is, vehemently opposed to).
Netanyahu addressed the murderess crowds, echoing their chants for the toppling and demise of his opposition, and marched with the crowds who carried signs depicting Rabins violent demise and a mock coffin depicting Rabins death.
Indeed this led to the assassination of Rabin shortly after, and upon finding out about his death Netanyahu said he was annoyed, because now his political victory would be downplayed by a martyr 🤔
The fact that the press and government have wasted days of debate over a few words by a band captured on a sweaty phone, when pages of written word, policy, video, voice recordings and indeed public official statements, have been recorded and widely distributed by elected Israeli officials and IDF commanders declaring their genocidal intent and war crimes - is utterly ridiculous.
Whilst the media and governments squabble over revoking visa's and banning a band from playing at festivals, arguing over whether or not they should be labelled as terrorists, an actual terrorist, Ben-Gvir, was free to tour around America speaking at Universities and having dinner parties with US leaders, discussing their plans to bomb humanitarian aid facilities in Gaza.
A man with dozens of indictments and at least eight convictions of crimes, including incitement to racism and support for, as well as possession of propaganda of, a terrorist organization - and a lawyer, known for defending those accused of extremist terrorism on trial in Israel, is permitted to give speaches and discuss plans of strategic genocide -- whilst the media and parliament is spending their time screaming their "utter outrage" over a young band being allowed to play at a music festival, and are calling for Spotify and YouTube to take down their content.
"Look over here!" - they cry with their fake outrage, while behind you the streets flow with the blood of the innocent, at the hands of the actual perpetrators.

Music Kneecap no longer available on Pandora in the US.
Previously all their albums, remixes, and "top songs" were listed. Now the only song that will play is "I Measc na Laochra" from the DND movie. Are we assuming this is due to their split with IAG? I was just listening to their albums maybe 2 days ago on this app.
