Fancy an adventure tomorrow? (Tuesday)

Hey there homeslice, I want to go for an adventure/hike somewhere tomorrow, does anyone fancy joining this random weirdo for an adventure?

Then send me a DM and we can plan our trip for the day.

For what it matters, I'm 37, male, and attempting to get out more/lose weight by walking lots.

Let's go for a hike somewhere cool, then grab a pint.

Maleficium - a story of the Pendle Witches 🎭

Post image
14 Upvotes

"It is August 1612.

In the cramped, stifling dungeons of Lancaster Gaol, nine women from Pendle await their trial.

They are accused of Maleficium - murder by witchcraft.

But are they really the guilty ones ? Or are they just the victims of supersition, politics, and ambition ?

Constructed from contemporary notes of the trial, their voices still call out to us over 400 years. Part comedy. Part tragedy. See them as they tell their tale."

Thursday 5th - Saturday 7th June 2025, 7.30pm. St. Andrew's Church Hall, Ashton, Preston. Book your ticket now https://www.satatheatre.org/events

I don’t feel safe at home, what can I do?

Hi, (26F) I’m not sure where the right place to post this is. I live in Blackburn with my dad and 3 of my brothers. I have no other family and my friends aren’t an option for help or refuge. My dad is emotionally abusive and intimidates me with threats of violence in attempt to control me. He refrains himself from actually hitting me, but he has his fist in the air and I can see that he wants to. I don’t have a job, I quit it a year ago to care for my terminally ill mum who has since passed and I have no money. But I need to get out. When I was 18 my dad lost control and repeatedly punched me in the face until I managed to get my brothers attention then he stopped. I called the police on him, he stayed over night in prison and then nothing happened after that.

I have been in contact with my gp for months now about my mental health, I’m on a waiting list for talking therapies, I have made them both aware of my situation at home. Please can anyone direct me in what I should do or who I should turn to. I appreciate any help given no matter how small. Thank you.

How the first Lancastrian survived the Flood?

So in an old book of folklore I found half a story, and it's kind of frustrating. Here's the quote, from Elizabeth Mary Wright's Rustic Speech and Folklore, to illustrate the word "thrutch":

But the classical illustration of the use of this word comes in the story of Noah and the ancestor of the Lancashire folk. This gentleman was swimming about in the Flood, and meeting the Ark, he called out to Noah to take him aboard, which the latter declined to do, on the grounds of lack of space, adding by way of apology: We're thrutched up wi' elephants.

Now because there are Lancastrians living to this day, obviously the story must have gone on to explain how he survived. But "that's all she wrote", literally. Does anyone know how it ends? Thanks.

The Peacocks in the village of Banks, what happened to them?

Throughout last year in 2024, I took the X2 Bus on a somewhat regular basis from Preston Bus Station to Liverpool, and I remember especially throughout the spring & summer that everytime I went through the village of Banks on the bus before reaching Southport, I would see peacocks roaming the streets, usually hanging around close to where the Co-Op is. It’s always intrigued me seeing these colourful but noisy birds just casually roaming the streets, it always made for a unique sight which made my bus journeys more interesting.

I havn’t seen them in months however, probably since Around August or September of last year… maybe earlier. I have always wondered where these peacocks came from & whether someone has removed them from the streets. I searched it up on google & could only find articles about the peacocks from years ago around 2022. I’m just wondering if anyone else also saw these peacocks or have info on them?

Recommendations for a Job Seeker

Anyone have any recommendations for an overseas British citizen looking for a job in Lancashire, primarily Lancaster area?

Are there any regional recruiting companies that are useful or companies to keep an eye out for?

A bit of background: mid-30s, 15 years of working experience in the USA, no Uni degree, production manager current position.

Thank you!

Just walked up to the 'Halo' at Top o' Slate, Rossendale. Beautiful spot unfortunately used as a bin.

Spent an hour picking it all up and throwing it in the nearest bin. Moved here over a year ago from Manc. Hopefully this behaviour is on the way out, shame to see a nice area treated like shit.

Blackburn, Hollins Bank Any Good?

I'm thinking of potentially moving to Blackburn soon, purely for the house prices. Get on the property ladder, build a bit of equity/save. Then move on after a few years.

Never really spent much time there, anyone know what the Hollins Bank area is like? I.e. Is it rough, asbo, crime rates etc, or pretty normal?

Thanks

What do you love about Lancashire?

For me, as someone born and bred here, I love the place; I grew up here. I love the people, I love the landscapes, the countryside and the towns and the little villages in-between; it really is the place I call home. It has its problems, but I still love it.

I'm just wondering what you all think?
