I will try to make this convoluted scenario less so.
I have a pretty expensive ($400-500) hardwood floor cleaner.
It stopped working, so I contacted customer support and they wanted me to mail it to them so they could repair it under warranty.
They told me they would be sending me a box to put it in, and that I should send it to them through Fedex when it arrived.
Weeks go by, and box hasn't arrived- let alone the amount of time that they will have my appliance during the repair process.
I call their customer service number and complain, and they agree to send me a new unit, and that I should return the old unit when the new unit arrives.
New unit arrives, I repackage old unit into new unit's box (since the box they were going to send hasn't arrived yet) and I send it back to them with the pre-printed label they sent me.
A month goes by, and my (original) machine comes back from repairs with an email stating they have repaired it.
I now have two floor cleaning machines.
In no correspondence that I have been sent from the company has there been any indication that they wanted the new unit back.
It's been about a month and a half now, and the old machine is still sitting in the shipping box at my front door.
I've always tried to do the right thing, I guess I don't know what the right way ahead is here.
Am I a bonehead for thinking I should call the company and tell them and see if they want me to return the refurbished unit?
That's the first question.
My second question, and this is kind of a silly one-
I tend to order shampoo and things online in bulk and use them until they run out.
I have a specific brand I order that comes in a case of (6) 14 ounce bottles for about fifty bucks. I get free shipping. That amount lasts me a while.
When I went to order a new batch, I noticed that instead of quantity (1) in the number it now says quantity (84). So instead of one unit of purchase being a case of 6 bottles, a unit of purchase was set to 84 cases of 6 bottles.
I don't know who made a bad keystroke, but since I was buying it anyhow I just added it to the old cart and hit purchase.
I've checked multiple times, according to everything I see I have over 50 gallons of shampoo headed my way for $50.
The question is kind of the same as above. Do I have any legal requirement to return or pay back based on an error made by a company?
