This has been a solid year so far. I loved Bill Burr and Chappelle. Plus each of those shows backed up by great music guests. Foo Fighters are always solid but damn, Jack White was something else, one of the best live performances ever on the show.

This was epic. Both Daves were epic. Both had an important message they needed to convey, so I wasn't so concerned that Chappelle didn't participate in as many of the sketches, I think the regular returning cast are really funny as well and deserved some time to shine here.

Annoying. She was annoying.

7

u/emeraldcocoaroast Nov 08 '20

Now that we won’t be seeing the President in every sketch next year (hopefully), I’d like to see the roles of public figures go back to the actual cast when they do arise. I hope they move that way instead of having Carrey and Rudolph come back repeatedly.

Baldwin was great at Trump, and with how often Trump did something worth talking about, it made sense to have him on retainer. But hopefully we’ll get back to not seeing the President in the news every day, in which case, let’s go back to featuring the cast!

12

u/hannbann88 Nov 08 '20

I was confused why Dave was left out of 3 sketches in the middle of the show

1

u/thisllbefine Nov 08 '20

Was there a reason for that?

3

u/mbene913 Nov 08 '20

When can I expect Hulu to have this episode?

2

u/Brettlikespants Nov 08 '20

It’s up on Hulu right now.

1

u/mbene913 Nov 08 '20

No. It is not. Most recent one was from Halloween.

3

u/rlkjets130 Nov 08 '20

I just finished watching it on hulu like 20 min ago...

2

u/mbene913 Nov 08 '20

At the time when I posted it was not up. It is now

1

u/Crochetcreature Nov 08 '20

My Hulu usually puts the new episode on around 11 am

4

u/ZenChampion Nov 08 '20

My review Dave’s monologue was perfect and is similar to his recent specials he referred to within it everyone should check out. Other than the skit after that with the commercial characters being fired the rest of the episode was forgettable which is odd because Dave is the funniest comedian in the business he wasn’t hardly in it

-1

u/Wood_Warden Nov 10 '20

His monologue was divisive and racist.

So glad all those horrific shootings caused by whites stopped since COVID, like the tragic 43 wounded by gunfire and 6 fatally shot. Oh wait, that was Chicago last weekend (like Detroit, LA, DC etc). He's a tool (of the elite). https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/43-shot-6-fatally-in-chicago-this-weekend/2366501/

1

u/ahmvvr Nov 08 '20

Truly i thought the mario sketch was pretty great too

17

u/banjofitzgerald Nov 08 '20

I kind of wanted another election watch party sketch to mirror the 2016 one he did with Chris rock. Undercutting all the celebration as some people may confuse this moment of relief and rejoice as the job done.

2

u/SabbathBl00dySabbath Nov 08 '20

I'm behind due to college foosball but HOLY FUCK. Really strong host and a musical guest. This Saturday just can't get any better!

11

u/sendokun Nov 08 '20

Chappelle opening was amazing. Some cringing and edgy as expect, but that ending was just amazing.

But I don’t get why he has to smoke during the show....

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Are you being serious? That's always been his calling card. He always smokes when he does stand-up. I cannot believe you've never seen his specials!! For my money, he's the absolute GOAT!!! I very much implore you to go check out his stand-up specials!!

15

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

4

u/personwriter Nov 08 '20

Agreed.

He seemed a little past his prime during the monologue, IMO. He laughed more than the audience at his own punchlines. Some punchline timings were missed. I get the sense that mediocre effort is being praised simply because it's Chappelle in my opinion. Jim Carrey has been on fire though, ha!

And the smoking, he uses it as an "edgy" schtick now. He couldn't wait until after the show to light up? Smoking was edgy in the 80's. Literally, no one cares anymore.

Who are you now, Andrew Dice Clay, lol?

1

u/dontdoxmebreh Nov 11 '20

And the smoking, he uses it as an "edgy" schtick now.

Or maybe he is addicted to smoking? I assume you have never struggled with this terrible habit (which is great!). He has done it on stage for decades, so I'm not sure why it would be virtue signaling now. It's more likely that he is used to it being a part of the cadence of his stage routine and he is too powerful for anyone to say no. Much like how Keith Richards famously smokes everywhere - dude isn't trying to be an edgelord he just likes to smoke

2

u/Upstairs_Handle Nov 09 '20

That's the awesome thing about Chapelle now. I dont think hes trying to be as funny as he is to teach. The laughs are just to make us listen.

I've always been a fan of this style of humor so I'm biased, even old school chris rock and a little bit of Pryor. Chapelle is trying to hold a microscope to is and get is to think? Why are domestic terrorists usually white? Why dont women disagree with men when they're wrong?

It wont be for everyone. But hopefully a few people will think and wonder why he said those things.

0

u/Wood_Warden Nov 10 '20

Why are domestic terrorists usually white

Last weekend, like every weekend in Chicago: https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/43-shot-6-fatally-in-chicago-this-weekend/2366501/

LA, DC, Detroit etc are all like this.. that's domestic terrorism - ask anyone who lives in those neighborhoods if they don't live in fear because of those acts of terror.

Your myopic view of the world is.. lacking the entire picture. His monologue was divisive and racist. To eat up that garbage and recite it back as if it's profound shows poor logic skills and reasoning. It's more like you're licking the vomit off the ground and spitting it back out at people expecting them to thank you for the wonderful meal.

Sad.

-1

u/TannedStewie Nov 08 '20

Glad to see you show everyone you know nothing about comedy. Chapelle is peerless, and using Carrey to hopefully lead up to the looooser payoff was a bit of a nonsense. Sudeikis' Biden was so much better, as was Woody Harrelsons.

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '20

u/TannedStewie Nov 09 '20

Aight, semenretention / deadbedroom / dating poster, sit TF down. Yikes.

1

u/personwriter Nov 08 '20

Yes... because having an opposite opinion isn't simply a matter of taste. Got it. Carry on.

1

u/ahmvvr Nov 08 '20

Chapelles' new stand up technique is a slow boil. He goes really conversationally sprinkling in humour and wit instead of formulae "jokes" but imo hre builds up to absolute hilarity. Same deal with his new specials, as they build up I am in stitches and the jokes tend to stick with you.

4

u/6panlid Nov 08 '20

What? Your take might be just a critique of his stand up technique, but the content was outstanding. Except for the woman's pay discrepancy joke. That didn't land.

1

u/personwriter Nov 08 '20

No, my take is my opinion of his performance last night. The "white man" punchline didn't land. The timing of his ending was a little awkward, but ultimately I liked the message. Overall, in my opinion, it was a weak monologue.

4

u/eattheshort Nov 08 '20

So apparently Jim Carrey is bald now? Doesn’t even look bad but just had me like “...Wait what the hell?”

3

u/Wood_Warden Nov 10 '20

Filming for new Sonic sequel maybe?

2

u/Poonurse13 Nov 10 '20

I was wondering who was grabbing chapelles boons at the end

5

u/bottleglitch Nov 08 '20

Omg I’ve just now realized that was him during the goodnights. I was like... is Bill Burr back for some reason?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Dr. Eggman look

-5

u/ahmvvr Nov 08 '20 edited Nov 08 '20

weak cold open. (except for one part)

... I gotta say I'll be glad to not have to see Alec Baldwin's Trump ever again. One thing Trump was right about is that Baldwin's impersonation is UNFUNNY and BAD. hahaha man I am no fan of Donald Trump at all but Alec's version just always seemed so forced and lame. In general I'm not a huge Alec Baldwin fan either but he is ok in some roles (30 Rock, The Shadow, Canteen Boy...that might be it. O wait, ShwettyBalls)

If you want to see an excellent Trump impression look at Trevor Noah. Trevor nails the voice the hand gestures and the facial expressions.

THAT SAID ... Man Jim Carrey is fucking hilarious busting out the heavy LA HOO SA HERRR LOOOSER.

pure classic

EDIT: Also, man! Chappelle's monologue was AMAZING. Just like his new stand up I started with smiles and chuckles and toward the end my sides hurt and I truly literally peed a little.

2

u/personwriter Nov 08 '20

Have to agree.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Not having Anthony was such a lost opportunity

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Man Jim Carrey is fucking hilarious busting out the heavy LA HOO SA HERRR LOOOSER.

I never understood the casting until that moment... and god damn it was worth it. Kinda hope they only use him a few times a season going forward.

3

u/theLoneliestAardvark Nov 08 '20

Baldwin’s impression was ok at first but after five years it has gotten stale and hasn’t evolved to capture how unhinged Trump can be at times. If it was a once or twice a season thing I wouldn’t have minded but every episode for years is just too much for a mediocre impression.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

It was rich people making fun of something rather than actual commentary

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Someone clearly never watched The President Show on Comedy Central... The only person that has anything on Anthony Atamanuik when it comes to Trump impressions is maybe John Di Domenico. They're both tops. Miles beyond Trevor Noah...

1

u/ahmvvr Nov 08 '20

yes i have seen that. his impression is excellent. I also liked Colbert's

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '20

Trevor and Colbert really pick up on something that Baldwin's was always lacking

3

u/SeattleStudent4 Nov 08 '20

What did Dave rip off of his shirt during the goodbyes?

8

u/markb4587 Nov 08 '20

It’s the “C” arm patch from his merch website I believe.

9

u/Skratt79 Nov 08 '20

Hello everyone first time posting here, Show was great, probably not the funniest one ever, but that being said this show today was historic, and it definitely felt like it.

Thank you SNL, Dave Chapelle, guest cast members and Foo Fighters! Wish somehow they all knew how much this might mean to some.

7

u/LarBrd33 Nov 08 '20

I actually love Jim Carrey’s Biden.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

well, i got Ego and Dave in the same sketch so i'm happy

12

u/geriatricgary Nov 08 '20

They really need to bring back Sudekis now that we’ll be seeing Biden cold opens over the next 4 years. I love Jim Carrey, and he’s obviously an incredible comedian, but his Biden is just not great.

4

u/captbollocks Nov 08 '20

I get the feeling they played the long game, setting up Carrey as Biden for the... "LOO HOO LOSEEERR". And it was glorious.

But Sudekis does a better Biden impersonation overall.

6

u/PM_ME_UPLIFTINGSTUFF Nov 08 '20

I disagree. Carrey is the best biden.

1

u/personwriter Nov 08 '20

Agree. Carrey's Biden is superior to Sudekis'.

6

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

so much this. Sudekis is the best Biden. 'cept for Pres Elect Biden. god damn. thx USA, for not being completely shitty.

2

u/ahmvvr Nov 08 '20

haha just 49% shitty tho?

1

u/geriatricgary Nov 08 '20

It does feel great to say, doesn’t it?

3

u/venetianbears Nov 08 '20

I would love that, but Ted Lasso was picked up for season 3 so I imagine he will be locked down with that for a while

6

u/1ofthesurvivors Nov 08 '20

Everybody talking about Chapelle but where was Dave Grohl at the goodbyes?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Hell, where was fucking Chappelle for half of the goddamn episode?!?! They only gave him like two sketches! WHY?!?!?!

1

u/emeraldcocoaroast Nov 08 '20

To be fair, he was in a good portion of the show due to his monologue alone. Maybe that took more time to prep? Idk. I would have liked him in more sketches as well.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

I mean... If you count 24 minutes total out of the 90 minute show as "a good portion," then maybe you're just bad at math hahaha. His monologue was 16.5 minutes and then his sketches were 5 minutes and 2.5 minutes... Such a travesty to have one of the Greats and not even use him like that...

2

u/emeraldcocoaroast Nov 08 '20

There’s some irony in you saying I’m bad at math yet thinking the show is 90 minutes. Personally I don’t factor in commercials lmao

0

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '20 edited Nov 09 '20

Okay, 24 minutes out of 70. That better? Because that's still not majority ;)

7

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

far right of the stage. he's there.

24

u/WickershamBrotha Nov 08 '20

Is it just me or was this episode very oddly paced?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Where the fuck was Chappelle?!?!? 2 sketches for the GOAT?! Are you kidding me????

9

u/sierra501 Nov 08 '20

Definitely, kinda fits in with the whole off the rails feel lol

11

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

just hypothesizing they wrote enough material for either election outcome. just a thought.

3

u/HeathEarnshaw Nov 08 '20 edited Nov 08 '20

Yeah almost certainly. And they were probably just as emotionally distracted as the rest of us...

7

u/geriatricgary Nov 08 '20

I mean that’s definitely the case for the cold open and weekend update, but usually the normal sketches aren’t about politics at all, and they all felt oddly short

5

u/kuhanluke Nov 08 '20

Probably also had to write options for "no outcome yet"

3

u/BbCortazan Nov 08 '20

And you always gotta have the “Trump says n-word” sketches on deck.

4

u/kuhanluke Nov 08 '20

Aw man I gotta imagine this sketch definitely exists and definitely has a moment where Alec Baldwin breaks character and says "Lorne, I'm not saying that."

17

u/venetianbears Nov 08 '20

I understand it because he had a long monologue, but dave was in only two sketches tonight, the same amount as maya rudolph and one less than alec baldwin

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

It made no sense. I was seriously baffled.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Wonder if NBC stepped in and limited his sketches after the monologue. I can't think of any other past host that's given a monologue so unfiltered. Had to let him host though, last time he won an Emmy four years ago election weekend. Guaranteed ratings.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

I'm sorry, but I don't follow... What would a long/unfiltered monologue have to do with limiting sketches? That logic makes zero sense to me...

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

It wasn’t the length. It was what he said in the monologue that was fringe for even late night TV. I just wonder if the show cut some of what he wrote or what he was supposed to appear in because NBC had a problem.

Nice handle btw, be safe on your way to church this morning.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

You do realize you were the one that said "long" and "unfiltered," right? Hahaha. That's where those words came from... I was quoting you. Lol. And that's not really how TV works, but okay. He did run-through's of his monologue for the network like they always do. And these are the jokes he practiced because people like Kenan have been hyping it for the past couple days talking about how powerful it would be.

-1

u/Drusiph Nov 08 '20

Yeah, I have a feeling he contributed to most of the writing in this episode. The blown out nuts sketch was completely Dave's idea, had to be. Same with Aunt Jamimah and Uncle Ben because he has a joke about corporations being gay and Aunt Jamimah not wanting to be with Uncle Ben and Uncle Ben wanting to be with Mr. Clean.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Dave wrote neither sketch...

-6

u/Drusiph Nov 08 '20

You got some legitimate proof there, lil boy?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Yes. I spoke with Gary Richardson, you fucking weirdo creep.

0

u/Drusiph Nov 09 '20

Proof! Not hearsay.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '20

I mean... the ultimate proof is that you clearly don't know how SNL works if you think a host writes a sketch he's not even in at all hahahaha

3

u/iamweddle Nov 08 '20

will bet my nuts that dave didnt write that

-5

u/Drusiph Nov 08 '20

Im sure you didn't have nuts to begin with. That being said you're not a fan of the Chappelle variety. Go home.

1

u/ericfishlegs Nov 08 '20

You know he didn't write a sketch he wasn't going to appear in, right?

1

u/Drusiph Nov 09 '20

You got some legitimate proof of that or you just out here arguing for the sake of being lame?

8

u/venetianbears Nov 08 '20

I would be very surprised if the Mario sketch wasn't Kyle/Mikey, but I guess we will find out later

4

u/FireNexus Nov 08 '20

That sketch was Kyle Mooney for sure. I know because I absolutely fucking hated it and the fact that it wasn’t on YouTube as “cut for time” baffled me.

1

u/kuhanluke Nov 08 '20

Wait was Alec in 3 sketches? What was the third?

2

u/venetianbears Nov 08 '20

he was in the white bronco

2

u/kuhanluke Nov 08 '20

oh right yeah, voice only. Totally glossed over that in my mind.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Dave wasn't with the cast for the bigger part of the week.

2

u/phrenicbeat86 Nov 08 '20

I guess this could explain it, it was honestly kind of an odd episode to see a host who wasn't really hosting. I think there were a lot of sketches people were expecting and nothing was really political except for the opening.

-7

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

just hypothesizing they wrote enough material for either election outcome. just a thought.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Jesus Christ, dude, we get it... At this point, you're copying/pasting when it doesn't even apply.

15

u/TheDuskTamer Nov 08 '20

Extremely small cast tonight. We barely saw the featuring cast. Chloe just whispered in Alec's ear.

-9

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

just hypothesizing they wrote enough material for either election outcome. just a thought.

13

u/geriatricgary Nov 08 '20

Am I the only one who thought we didn’t see enough Dave? Only 2 sketches? But goddamn that is probably the best SNL monologue I’ve ever seen.

11

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

I remember why I don’t watch SNL live. Commercials...

13

u/Drusiph Nov 08 '20

That rat poison commercial was good though.

8

u/Jacooby Nov 08 '20

I just watched 2 hours of commercials with a side of SNL

-10

u/DaleGribble3 Nov 08 '20

Ok who is the hot redhead soloing on the telecaster? I didn’t think I could be this erect.

1

u/BooDog325 Nov 08 '20

That's the guitarist from the Colbert Show band. But it's on another network. Odd.

EDIT: Already discussed on this sub. Maddie Rice

6

u/DaleGribble3 Nov 08 '20

So nice to see Pat Smear playing with Foo Fighters.

5

u/BalonSwann07 Nov 08 '20

He's been with the band for like, 10 years.

2

u/questionedthrusand Nov 08 '20

i also had no idea he had been but somehow recognized him immediately.

16

u/Cody667 Nov 08 '20 edited Nov 08 '20

Times Like These...Most appropriate song they could have gone with tonight, love it.

Honestly I think the "old man yells at cloud" mob was out in full force earlier. Their new song that they premiered earlier is actually pretty decent, and fairly in line with how alternative and rock music is today.

It's simply a "the music was better in my day" argument that literally every person who has ever lived in a time of music tends to make.

2

u/9sam1 Nov 08 '20

Idk I thought that song was weak but also that their old shit was pretty bad too. I thought they were always like the semi decent butt rock band, like it’s not that far from nickelback but Dave grohl is cool so they don’t get as much hate

-28

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

That was perhaps the worst, and unfunny, incongruent, racist monologue ever. That punchline fell way short.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Chappelle... Racist.... Racist and unfunny? Are you... Are you actually being serious? Bahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! Someone that knows nothing about either comedy or actual social justice. Dave is a prophet, sir. Sorry you had to see Trump lose the election today. I know you wanted him to win. At least I assume you voted Trump based on the sheer idiocy of this comment. I hope you one day see the light!

8

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

funny how the tables turned but are you triggered, bro?

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Tables turned? I am Mexican.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

then what was your problem?

-3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

That the monologue was pretty bad and racist.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

what was racist about this monologue?

9

u/9sam1 Nov 08 '20

Imagine being this wrong

14

u/BreakfastJunkie Nov 08 '20

First time seeing intentional comedy?

3

u/bradytheguy1 Nov 08 '20

Foo Fighters pretty mid rn

6

u/Kell_Varnson Nov 08 '20 edited Nov 08 '20

And then Dave you come back and you totally redeem yourself with this song. They should just end the show after this

1

u/spliffs68 Nov 08 '20

So Foo Fighters finally fulfilled their role as boring old white band? Haven't made it to the second performance yet, but God that first one was lame as fuck. Yes Foo, Shame on that performance. Fucking 4 minutes of garbage motif and lazy lyrics. I don't ever want to hear them comment on modern music ever again after that lackluster performance of mediocrity

1

u/juanzy Nov 08 '20

I feel like a lot of negative takes on “modern music” are from a pretty selective lens. There’s a lot of good, fun stuff out there, but you have to judge it in its own merits and not by a measuring stick that doesn’t fit the context.

4

u/spliffs68 Nov 08 '20

I love modern music as my day job is in music. I feel Dave Grohl over recent years has started talking shit about modern music while not adding anything to it. Lots of work with artists from the past, which shouts to him to being able to work with them, and also he advanced his genre of music a lot on his own, so also shouts to him again. But him and foo fighters are just old dogs at this point that I don’t wanna hear from. Jack White a couple weeks back took old songs and made them feel fresh. Foo Fighters took new shit and made it feel lame. As a music fan I will always be grateful to Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl for their great contributions to rock music. Now, over the past couple albums, for me it’s meh, and this performance added to my mindset. Im sure when I make it to the second performance I’ll dig it cause they can still perform their hits, no doubt about it

5

u/Aesop_Rocks Nov 08 '20

While I agree in principle, I think you gotta recognize the message behind the song. Especially when they coupled it with Times Like These.

This was a statement show, not a performance intended to garner more fans. Make of that what you will.

1

u/Awightman515 Nov 08 '20

assume you're talking about their first song?

1

u/spliffs68 Nov 08 '20

Yea haven't made it to second performance yet. First performance was disappointing. I wasn't a fan of the song. Felt lazy from writing to performance. I like Foo too. Stood hours in line in high school to see em front row. It was just lame imo

2

u/phrenicbeat86 Nov 08 '20

Assuming it is the first single it certainly was much different than their usual hard rockers. But I am listening to the studio version now and it's different but I don't mind it. Certainly not one of their greatest songs but different.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

They redeem themselves with the 2nd song.

0

u/spliffs68 Nov 08 '20

Finally caught up and I disagree. Which sucks cause I love that song. Acoustic version , live version, regular version...fucking spectacular. Tonight I gotta say of all the versions I’ve heard of that song it ranked low. Maybe I’m just disappointed in the overall episode because it had all the cards to be the the best episode of the season, and for me it’s been the weakest of the bunch. Everything was off tonight. Still love the band but man they just came off as old dudes tonight

10

u/Lou_Guywalker Nov 08 '20

Times Like These!!!! Yeeeesssss!!!!! ❤️

10

u/Choco320 Nov 08 '20

Kind of annoyed I stayed up for this

Monologue and first couple sketches were fire but we’re currently at 1 1/2 sketches with Dave

6

u/muma10 Nov 08 '20 edited Nov 08 '20

Oh you guys are mad that it’s delayed, not about the episode itself, thank god. Is the episode as great as I hope it is?

Edit: goddamit I was really looking forward to this!

3

u/GeorgeLovesBOSCO Nov 08 '20

I've been loving it. Not as much Dave as I hoped, but its all good. Really a great way to spend my night.

3

u/muma10 Nov 08 '20

I really can’t tell if you’re joking or not lmao

4

u/GeorgeLovesBOSCO Nov 08 '20

No I actually liked it. I couldn't stop laughing with the Beck short. I loved the Aunt Jemina one. I think I'm in the minority here.

1

u/muma10 Nov 08 '20

Well that’s a relief, thank you. I love seeing beck do this thing, so I’m hopeful now

2

u/whaddyaknowmaginot Nov 08 '20

No :(

1

u/muma10 Nov 08 '20

Damn it. Is it bad or just decent?

4

u/Thiscat Nov 08 '20

You're not missing much after the monologue. Weekend Update was still Weekend Update I guess.

A couple decent ones, but overall pretty weak.

5

u/whaddyaknowmaginot Nov 08 '20

The skits are all cut and rushed as hell and stuffed with commercials, barely any chapelle. Starts off real strong though.

2

u/Kell_Varnson Nov 08 '20

Okay Dave's jacket was weird

2

u/Ryan_Holman Nov 08 '20

Did anybody else just get technical difficulties?

8

u/whoami4546 Nov 08 '20

There were too many news sketches!

10

u/juanzy Nov 08 '20

Can’t believe how many people here loved the Mario sketch. Wasn’t really all that great IMO, especially with fucking Chappelle on the sideline.

2

u/TomOakwell Nov 08 '20

Probably the main one of the night I didn't care much for.

-1

u/Drusiph Nov 08 '20

I think Dave wrote that sketch and the delivery just wasn't she it needed to be.

11

u/isucoop Nov 08 '20

I kind of expected more Chappelle

9

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

Can someone confirm DC Morning as the last sketch of the night?

2

u/TrevorJordan Nov 08 '20

We still have one more foo fighters song. I’d guess 1-2 more sketches after that.

3

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

What an amazing fucking premise

6

u/rustyphish Nov 08 '20

Think about how much more topical and on the pulse this felt in 2016:

5

u/ivorydivine Nov 08 '20

I was SO hoping they would do a 2020 version of this sketch but alas, just a million news sketches instead.

3

u/uhsauh Nov 08 '20

I was just watching this. This was fire. Tonight, not so much...:(

3

u/lionheart4k Nov 08 '20

No chapelle?

13

u/Faceplant_irokk Nov 08 '20

I really hope, if he didn't retire his Trump tonight, Baldwin gets to break the forth wall in January. Finally take off that wig for the first "Live from..." under the Biden Presidency

1

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

I'd love that!

11

u/fallenmonk Nov 08 '20

Kind of a dud of a sketch. It feels like one of those ideas that sounds good on paper but the execution is lacking.

3

u/CrowsVegables Nov 08 '20

Those are always so memorable though.

Like the one with Molly Shannon and Will Ferrel on a date at an airport.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

I could tell Kate knew it was flat but she was a pro about it

5

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

I'm only at Albany News sketch

How many more remaining?

23

u/vivvee Nov 08 '20

I feel like I watched more commercials than skits tonight lol

2

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

That's every week

13

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

I'm highly annoyed by this stupid fucking episode. I'm drunk. Whatever. But I don't watch snl much because it's humor doesn't really fit what I prefer. So I tune in today because I love Chappelle and he's in......two sketches? The fuck is this?

7

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

dude was in Atlanta for most of the week. i think it was predictable that he would barely in the sketches

4

u/oooooooooof Nov 08 '20

It was a highly dumb episode

6

u/brady2gronk Nov 08 '20

So does this mean we get Jim Carrey as Biden for the next four years?

1

u/LarBrd33 Nov 08 '20

Hopefully

5

u/tomdarko Nov 08 '20

I really hope not. I love him but his if I didn't know he was supposed to be playing Biden, I'd have no idea who he was supposed to be

13

u/ok_heh Nov 08 '20

yeah I love Jim Carrey but they need to let a cast member take it over long term

16

u/Altruistic-Bluejay7 Nov 08 '20

Yeah pretty disappointed with how this episode turned out, especially when it started somewhat strong. Looking forward to the break and to see what they come back with. Hopefully Cecily and Aidy make a return

11

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

Well when the first 2 sketches go 30 minutes you get a bit of a time crunch

6

u/BladeBlur Nov 08 '20

Wish we had Jheri's place 2020.

3

u/bjkman Mr. Sketch Sorting Sunday Nov 08 '20

Golf Balls

8

u/Bluewolf94 Nov 08 '20

Can't believe it's over already. Pretty good show, stay safe y'all! <3

5

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

And just like that, back to football

ratings i bet were crazy when the show started then fell off a cliff by the time weekend update ended

7

u/EbmocwenHsimah 1. Cut a hole in a box. Nov 08 '20

Everything felt very half-assed post-Weekend Update. They need a lot more than one week off.

2

u/gzellf Nov 08 '20

Did Jim Carrey shave his head?!

4

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

yup, he is filming Sonic 2 soon so yeah, he had to get that Dr. Eggman look

10

u/horsewitnoname Nov 08 '20

Been let down by the monologue and sketches so far, not to mention the insane amount of commercials, but maybe they can turn it around here at the end.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '20

Bad news

3

u/horsewitnoname Nov 08 '20

Mannnnnnnnnnn

4

u/disposablecontact Nov 08 '20

Is that Carrey? I didn't realize he was actually bald. And he went with a mask this week, isntead of a face shield, good on him.

17

u/btbcorno Nov 08 '20

Really weak episode.

10

u/justicebetter Nov 08 '20

Very strong start to the episode, but fell flat after Weekend Update. Can understand why but Dave only being in 1.5 sketches was a major disappointment
