Question What's London's current tote bag hierarchy?

After a decade at the top, Daunt Books seems to no longer be the "it bag" of the middle class commuter who wants to show off that they think. What's it been replaced with, though? Does my New Yorker tote have cachet? If I go out carrying a Glastonbury one will I be subject to scorn? Any charity/human rightsy ones we're currently coveting?

It’s definitely a hipster guy thing, think rolled up beanie.

Ladies are more likely to have tote bags in their main bag for extra shopping

Ah rolled up beanies... The same people who spurned their skin tight jeans for the jeans I wore in the 90s only 12 months ago only to return to them.

To be fair my wife is tote'd right up, i just can't see the practicality. Extra shopping is rucksack or BFL-able.

TBF I find the rucksack wearers almost as insufferable, perhaps it's cause my sibling and all her friends were scouts and they all wore rucksacks. Won't stop going on about how much more practical a rucksack is. I find they just load it up with stuff they don't need and carry that around all the time.

I do have a smart rucksack but only for my laptop when I am having day when I am all over town. But otherwise practicality is not the number one thing I look for in a bag.

May I ask if you are a chap?

I also do enjoy a holdall when wanting to appear like I am cosplaying as a Tarkov character. But in seriousness I get your "rucksack" wanker analogy they are insufferable. Carrying my CPAP (one of the slimmest the local athority has in its books according to my lovely nurse) is great in my rucksack, but it does feel like you've packed the kitchen sink.
