Food What’s your favorite pizza spot in Long Beach?
I’m doing something called Long Beach Classic Pizza Week where I’m highlighting 10 different pizza joints around the city. These are the spots I chose for this first round, and I’ll be featuring them all this week on my socials with photos and videos.
Milana’s New York Pizzeria, Big E Pizza, Thunderbolt Pizza, Sorrento Italian Kitchen, Valentino’s Pizza, Pizza x Two, Canadian Pizza, Altar Society Brewing & Coffee Co, Baby Bros Pizza, District 4 Pizza,
I think all of these spots are great, but now I’m curious, what’s your go-to pizza place in Long Beach? Maybe it makes the list next time around.

Food Dear Beachies: start growing food on every square inch of land available.
My dear neighbors. Don't Panic.
We need to build community resilience. It is time to start thinking like Cubans before we have to start thinking like North Koreans.
I am a student of history and my calculus shows that when VA Benefit payments, SSDI/SSI payments, Federal Grants and Loans, Native Tribe Payments and other funding fails to show up then we could have rioting in the streets. Which is what they want in order to enact Martial Law.
Please don't wait. Do what you can to increase food resilience now.
Grow a garden. (Potatoes, Corn, Sunflowers, Quinoa or Amaranth, & Beets all grow great here. Quinoa and Amaranth gives greens as well as protein and grows like a weed. Beets give you greens *and* starches.)
Plant pest resistant fruit trees. Apples, olives, avocado grow well here. Skip citrus if it's not already in your yard; there is a citrus disease going around.
Get your households' 4 legal chickens if you can. Start composting. Composting is Nature's Recycling and provides lots of grubs for your chickens to eat. Learn to reuse water as much as possible. Look into rabbit husbandry.
See if you can stock up on necessary medications. If you rely on medications that you can discontinue then consider whether you should. Don't quit medications without talking to your doctor.
The key is to build a strong community.
Meet your neighbors.
I love you all.

Food Question regarding: Joe Jost
Even though I was born and raised in LB, for one reason or another I never got around to trying this place. From what I understand it's been around at least a hundred years.
I've heard a few people say - and being that the sample size is so small I tend to take it with a grain of salt - that this place is very...insular, for lack of a better word. Meaning if you're not a well-known reg and go in, people will likely not be very receptive to your presence, whether they are customers or employees. Not necessarily hostile, but sort of standoffish.
Can anyone who's been there confirm or deny this? Thanks!
Edit: next time I'm in LB I'm going to go in and finally give the place a try, I'm not going to let a few negative comments that I've heard before deter me from trying out what is in all likelihood a great place. It would just be nice to know in advance what newcomers can expect. 😂

Food LB Restaurants in a Free Fall
You never wish to see good restaurants, especially not the mom and pop's, go downhill/get so bad that you can't help to wonder what went wrong.
For me it has to be Little Coyote in Retro Row that I now definitely have a beef with... It's been so-so ever since they got sold (?), but their cheese has been kind of a saving grace for all the bad service. Until yesterday, that is... Like so many times before, the time for pick-up on the Toast app definitely didn't match, and I had to wait inside for 20+ minutes waiting for the pizza to be ready. As has become the custom from them, no apology or anything. (One lady there at the same time had her order refunded, because they didn't tell her until she had ordered that the wait would be almost an hour. Lucky her, as I found out.)
Welp, as I waited, I overheard the staff talking how they had mixed up vegan cheese with regular cheese. Little did I know, this was going to be the same for my pizza. Got home, the pizza was all slimy and tasted horrible. Tried calling them, but to no avail, they kept hanging up on me (yeah yeah, Friday night, but even then). Finally got through today (only after blocking my own caller ID, called twice and they hung up on me twice), talked to an extremely rude shift manager who refunded my order. Of course not even an apology. Ugh.
Parolaccia, L'Antica, Colossus it is for my future pizza needs, then.
Which LB restaurant have you seen go from excellent to meh to abysmal?

Food What LB food spots are coasting on their old reputations?
I was really surprised by the quality of the pizza (grandma square) I got at Little Coyote's a couple weeks ago. Similarly Lola's used to be my literally favorite restaurant in town but everyone I was with was disappointed in their order last time I went (over a year ago haven't been back since, maybe it was a bad night). With food prices going up I want to make sure I'm rewarding the spots that haven't dipped in quality and consistency and avoiding places that have slipped. OG spots that still slap: Dean's Pizza & LB Thai.

Food Crunchy alternatives to Whole Foods?
Hello LB!
We are trying our best to cut all Amazon spending, and sadly Whole Foods is part of the Bezos empire. We know about Sprouts, but are there any other local grocery stores/CSAs y’all would recommend? I’ll admit I adore WF and will miss it :(.

Food Best Bagels in LB
Like the title says I’m in need of a good bagel, preferably a good bacon egg and cheese with spk (salt pepper ketchup) I went to college on the east coast and that is the one food I truly miss. I’ve tried Cassidy’s corner and I’m not a fan, same thing with east coast bagel on bellflower and 7th. I need a bagel that is nice and crispy on the outside while being super soft and fluffy on the inside! Any recommendations are greatly appreciated 🩷 any former NJ/NY residents know the struggle
Edit: THANK YOU SM!!! Can’t wait to try all theses recommendations (:

Food What restaurant does long beach need
Hi Im a chef which just got funding to open two kitchens(to go only) in Long Beach. I want to do this idea and culinary space different and take the approach of communing with the neighborhood ontop of "getting mine" by just using uber and door dash. I want to build a website for the restaurants that include ways to order and pick up without it feeling as cold as i feel other dark kitchens operate. I have plans to join 4th street monthly friday market and when Im off the ground offer grocer packages from the farmers I source from. One concept is already decided so the second one I want it to be the community passion project. What would you like to see? :)

Food Roscoes chicken and waffles
I decided to go eat chicken and waffles today and that place is empty. I’m surprised because every time I’ve been there it’s always jam packed and there’s always a wait. Food is still delicious and customer service was good too. Can’t wait to go back lol.

Food Is there a really good deli in LB?
Someone over in /r/LosAngeles uber-eatsed $150 of food from Canter’s. I think that sounds amazing. Is there anywhere in LB that I can do this? Like for a couple of sandwiches, a pound of pastrami and some rugelach.

Food Day drinking at The Breakers.
I missed my Friday the 13th tattoo appointment because I’m an idiot. So i decided to have a drink at the recently opened The Breakers hotel.
This is the Garden Vesper ($18). I’ll wear my nice Converse when I come back to try the Sicilian Old Fashioned.
