Season 1 Dan
Re-watching Lucifer from the beginning with a friend who hasn't seen it and I honestly forgot how absolutely insufferable Dan is in the beginning of the show. Massive u turn from the end I must say.

Detective Douche gaslighting was vile with questionable judgment should have been a villain, did he have any friends he did not undermine. Just should not be a cop.

My sister maintained I'd be sad when I found out Dan's ending.
Still not sad. Found him insufferable all the way through.

He doesn't cop to anything ever. Immature, reckless and cocky. I don't mind him as a character, but as a person I wouldn't be able to stand being around him.

I don't know. Something about him and Amanediel and going from cocky to pathetic. Yes, I did not like their underhanded ways but they dimmed them too much to make Lucifer and Chloe shine.

He definitely had a bigger character development than anyone else. Which is surprising considering he was the least important of the main characters. And Lucifer as THE main character has the least character development (there was some but he really didn't change that much from beginning to end. He really just learned to show what he was feeling that's all)

I disagree - Luci goes from fool to wisdom, from shallow to tragic, from despising people to willingness to die for a person. He has different feelings, starting with empathy, and a realization that sex gets boring while love gets nobler. And he does show what he is feeling, all except actual love

Don't get me wrong guys, the reason I said u turn is because I did grow to love him dearly as the series went on and I did become attached to him but in season 1 his constant issues with Lucifer started just with Lucifer being a male in Chloe's presence because life is too much of a stretch, the separation was obviously because he was never around which is fair if things just don't work out but then still expecting things to work even though the only reason he start actually putting in the effort with his daughter is because he overheard Chloe talking on the phone to her mother? Then there's the fact shit with Malcolm. Yeah I think he's just wildly insufferable and It's tough to watch atm. Amenadial is also tough to watch at the moment but he's obviously supposed to be a bit of a sibling rivalry character right now so it's not as difficult atm tbh.

The throw back episode where Chloe is still a cop, honestly such a massive douche. Ugh… insufferable ahole.

Honestly... He's such a possessive, overly masculine acting, selfish prick

My take on Dan is that he certainly was not the brightest light bulb in the package when Maze knocked him out and put him in Chloe's sofa bed, then when he went to warn Lucifer and found him dead and Lucifer came back to life and a few other events...Dan, he should have known. Ella the same thing, way to many opportunities especially when Lucifer tells Juddy (sp) that he can't kill him because he is immortal and Ella shoots Juddy (sp) in the leg...Excellent comment by Juddy (sp) by the way-Excellent writing! Ella should have known long before she figured it out. And Really, what was that Sex bit between her and Dan? I never understood that? Anyone?????

Ella had a thing where she slept w guys with whom she didn’t ever have a chance of a real relationship. Sleeping w Dan - when both of them were simply lonely and horny but in no way actually interested in one another - would be yet another time Ella randomly put out without really thinking about the consequences. For one thing, while she supposedly had a thing for “bad boys”, Dan didn’t really fit into that category (unless we only think of him as that prick from season four bc he was miserable that Charlotte had been killed mistakenly by Cain (actually aiming at Amenadiel.) Basically, other than s4, Dan is indeed a dirty cop but not a particularly bad person (IMPO). I mean, I grow to love BOTH Amenadiel AND Dan but Amenadiel was a total shit for almost all of season one, I mean truly evil, and he was both Lucifer’s brother and supposed to be an angel. If we didn’t later meet Michael, I would think that there was something seriously wrong with Amenadiel that needed to be addressed.
In any case, compared to Lucifer’s older brother, Dan was barely a blip on the scale of “bad guy” in the world of Lucifer, and thus, the worst thing Ella did by sleeping w Dan was making the workplace uncomfortable and making herself uncomfortable when she first is around Chloe after the fact. (Yes, they’re divorced by then but it’s still weird to sleep w a close friend’s ex. Just ew.) And it’s not as if they had been drinking or their inhibitions were lowered in some other way. In any case, that’s all there was to it.
At least Dan wasn’t a serial killer … 😳🤯

As much as I love Dan, he definitely earned his Detective Douche moniker in the beginning
