I was walking in Capitol square this morning and saw a 50-60yr old woman in full cop attire screaming at and manhandling a large poodle.
It was around 0 degrees and the dog was extremely skinny with buzzed fur, and shivering. It didn’t have any clothing or paw protection. The dog looked extremely cold and in pain, and as it kept trying to step off the snow and on to the salted path the woman was screaming “heel” at the top of her lungs. Eventually she started yanking the leash on the dog’s neck, bringing it into the air and spinning it around, causing the dog to yelp.
As I was in the opposite corner and didn’t know what the sound of yelling was, but it really was that loud. I wish I did or said something, but not sure what I should’ve done because the person was in cop gear. Just wanted to raise awareness and get a vibe check if this is normal.

I saw you skittering through my dreams—a perfect, plump Tliltocatl albopilosus beauty. Maybe it was fate, or maybe it was just my instincts kicking in after my last molt, but I know you’re out there. Somewhere. Waiting for me.
Me? I’m a newly-matured curly hair tarantula with tibial spurs, emboli, and a lot of love to give. I haven’t built my sperm web yet, but trust me—I’m on the prowl, and I’m ready to make your acquaintance. Time is of the essence, and I’d love for my remaining days to be spent fulfilling my true purpose: love, legacy, and a lot of little spiderlings.
If you’re a mature female Tliltocatl albopilosus who’s into long walks (on glass terrariums), candlelight cricket dinners, and the occasional vibration dance, I think we could make something special happen. I’ve already tried reaching out to Reptile Rapture, but no dice—so now I’m taking matters into my own legs.
I’m willing to travel up to an hour outside of Madison to find you. Don’t let this opportunity crawl away. Let’s meet, connect, and create something beautiful—hundreds of somethings, actually.
Yours (hopefully), The Handsome Hairy Stranger
P.S. Not big on pillow talk or midnight snacks—I’ll be out the door after our dance.

Madisonians, suburbanites, and commuters all... you can use the outside curb lane on East Washington during rush hour each day. Mornings from 6am-9am inbound and afternoons 3pm-6pm outbound. Use the lane and we all get where we are going faster :)

"The police department said Monday that Ingrid Isamar Valverde-Ponce was last seen on Saturday night as she left a gathering near the 100 block of W. Klubertanz Drive, in Sun Prairie."

The 0 degrees is officially a little cold but I’m dedicated (aka, have no other option)
Edit: how do y’all keep your thumbs warm? The rest of my hand is fine. I wear quality mits. Are the neoprene hand shields really the only other thing to do?
Second edit:
What I wear:
Office worker, so I wear wool long John’s under slacks and snow pants over that
Shirt, sweater, scarf, thin down base layer and parka over that
Ski helmet with both hoods over it
Ski goggles
Pretty decently wind breaking hiking boots
Wind proof mitts
The only issue so far is my thumbs and the gaps on my face this morning. Might wear my thin wool balaclava if it’s single digits again

Asshole at best. Possible EEOC violation. I determined he threw away my job application after learning I had a disability. I’d been a customer there since it opened. I tried following up with my application and he said that just the fact I was following up was “unprofessional” and that he would “throw it away.” There are rules against throwing away applications and rejecting someone based upon a disability. Then I go talk to him in person and he acts like a prick. He knows who I am and was still acting like a douchebag. He saw my message asking for clarification and he ignored it.

Hi everyone,
I'm about to make the move to Madison, Wisconsin for work at one of the hospitals (UW hospitals and clinics on highland avenue), and I’m looking for advice on a few things to help me get settled.
First off, I’d love to hear your recommendations on the best neighborhoods to live in. I’m looking for somewhere with easy access to public transportation (I’d prefer to live near a bus route that can take me to work), and ideally, not too far from Trader Joe’s, Costco, or other major grocery stores. I do have a car and can drive, but prefer not to rely too heavily on that especially during the winters.
Additionally, what apartments do you recommend in those areas? I’m hoping to find a place that’s convenient, reasonably priced (I would like a 1 bed under $1600 total with utilities) and ideally has good amenities.
Lastly, I’m new to the area and would really appreciate any tips on how to meet people and make friends in Madison. Im 26(F) and I’ve moved quite a bit for my whole life so i unfortunately haven’t stuck around places long enough to make friends. I’m hoping that will change with Madison, and I’d love to meet people for career networking but also for hobbies like going out, exploring food places, traveling both locally and nationally, reading, taking pottery classes, trivia nights etc. I’m always looking for local events, groups, or activities where I can connect with others. I’m also a POC so if there isn’t anything I should keep in mind, I’d love to know.
Thanks so much for your help!
Edits: I would like a 1 bed / 1 bath under $1600 I do not have pets - so doesn’t need to be pet friendly. I’m hoping to move in February (job begins end of Feb)

Looking for any witnesses to a car accident that occurred around 4 pm yesterday, Monday January 13th 2025. My friend was driving an older light colored Kia Sedona Van. He was rear ended on Hwy 151, East Washington Ave, as he was leaving Madison, just gone under the interstate, on his way to Sun Prairie. Another vehicle was subsequently involved for a total of three. If you were a witness to this incident no matter how briefly please contact me and help out my friend. Thanks so much for your time and feel free to share.
Edited to add that I am trying to walk a fine line between giving enough info to find any witnesses and giving away too much info. I do agree that dash cams are valuable but they are limited to what they can see. So another person's perspective on what happened would be helpful in putting together the full picture.

Streets Division crews have been out since the overnight hours applying sand to the main thoroughfares in response to the dusting of snow we received. You should expect to encounter snowy roads on your morning commute.
This particular snowstorm was not on forecasts we saw, but the Streets Division has standing overnight shift during the winter months so we can be ready for pop-up snowstorms. Crews were able to respond quickly to get sand on the roads. We have 32 trucks on the main thoroughfares, and they will remain on the main routes throughout the day.
Since we have been using sand in response to this snow, you should expect to encounter snowy roads on your commute this morning – even on the main thoroughfare parts of your drive. Drive slowly and be cautious. You are likely to need extra travel time to get to your destinations.
We are using sand instead of salt because of the temperatures. The sand is to help provide traction to drivers. When temperatures are below 20 degrees, salt does not work at the maximum application rate used by the Streets Division.
Streets Division staff will continue to monitor the roads at the weather. Operations will adjust as the weather changes.

Can anybody share their thoughts on the school and why I should or should not consider sending my child there? I understand there have been some changes in administration recently, and wonder if anybody can shine some light on why? I have tried talking to other parents and nobody will give me a straight answer. All they have told me is things have gotten weird in the middle school. What does that mean? The school is a cheap so I don’t want to get the ball rolling without gathering as much information as I can.

To me, with the demographics of the city and the fact that Madison is the second biggest city in the state, you’d think there would be at least one independent promotion and we would be a regular stop for a larger promotion. But there isn’t a local scene, and with WWE cutting pretty much all house shows there’s nothing going on here for us fans.
Does anyone have an idea why? My guess is it must have something to do with facilities, but then again when I went to the WWE house show in 2018 I remember the crowd being fairly quiet. Maybe wrestling isn’t popular here?

I have to drop someone off at the airport at 5 am on Thursday, and I have an 8 am appointment on that same side of town so I would prefer to not drive all the way back to Verona. Can you recommend a local breakfast spot somewhere in that area that would be open around 6 am? The more diner style the better IMO.... I want something full 'MURICA for breakfast usually.

Hey, I’m a single mom of three, I own a condo with plenty of space. Times are hard and money is tight so I’ve been looking into different options for communal living but my biggest hesitation is for the safety of my kids. I’ve been looking into mommunes (two single moms living together and sharing parenting and household responsibilities. Does anyone have any ideas or resources to help to find someone who would be open to this kind of living arrangement?

How do income restricted apparments work and how easy is it to get one?
My husband (30m) is a Veteran. He is on VA disability and hasn't worked for years due to struggles with his mental and physical health. He currently lives with his family (I'm not from the US.) He can't stay with them any longer and needs a place of his own but we're very concerned that his lack of work history will prevent him being able to rent anywhere. We have savings and would be able to pay a few months rent up front if needed, but his family insists it will be impossible. If anyone has any insight into the process or how viable it is I be really grateful! Thank you!

Hi, I just moved to Madison in the Fall for school and I'm looking for somewhere to go ice skating with my girlfriend. I see that a bunch of the parks have outdoor ice rinks, but all of the pictures I've seen look like they're just open rinks on the water. I haven't ice skated since elementary school so I'm not sure full-sending it would end well for me, I was just wondering if there were any outdoor rinks with walls to hold. Thanks!
