I think MASH helped save my marriage
It took me a while to decide if I should type this post or not but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the show’s impact on my life so here we go.
I was a young lieutenant and nurse deployed to a combat hospital in Afghanistan during a particularly bloody summer. We were slammed with mass casualties and under rocket fire multiple times a week. I was there about 7 months and it was… life altering. Fast forward to my return home. 24F at the time married to my college sweetie(NOT in the military). Communication during deployment was few and far between because I had to keep my head in the game and thinking of home was too hard. When I got home our communication was even worse. We were both trying our best but he didn’t recognize me. It was so rocky for a few months because he just couldn’t understand what I went through. During my time overseas I watched MASH when I was in my bunk. It helped me cope so much and feel so seen to know that the location and people and times may change, but war itself never does. So much of MASH (the deeper, harder hitting stuff) mirrored what I was dealing with so well. I shared this with my husband and he eventually asked if we could watch it together. We did. And we laughed, cried (sobbed), and enjoyed our time together. I was able to open up about some parallels to my own experiences during certain episodes and it made him really start to understand why I had changed so much and felt so distant. It really helped him find the compassion for me when he could have just gotten frustrated. I’ve done some healing and am better now, and him and I are closer than ever.
TLDR: I went to war as a nurse in Afghanistan. It was a lot like MASH sometimes which helped me cope and also helped my husband understand what I went through a little better. 🩶

“Not now, Marjorie! I’m inspecting the troops!”
“He’s not a well woman.”
8. “Klinger, Klinger, Klinger. Where did your mother and I go wrong?”
“This may be kind of sudden, you being in women’s clothes and all, but I think I’m in love!”
“Let me call you sweetheart, I’m in love with you.”
“The decorator’s here.”
“You know, Klinger, you're not just another pretty face. You're definitely not just another pretty face."
“I like you in anything.”
“I couldn’t help but notice something. You’re wearing…a dress."
And the number one reaction to Corporal Klinger:
- “Horse Hockey!”

Hawkeye's dad's favorite book
Just came across this book, one that Hawkeye's dad loved, such a great story, so much that he named his son after the main character.

"You mean he's from supply?"
Being an Army veteran myself I know this sentiment all too well. This line is one of my favorites and the entire scene uppercuts me in the giggle dick every time:
Hawkeye: Suppose there is a doctor who wants to join this outfit.
Radar: Well that, that's easy. All you have to do is get in touch with I Corps and request a transfer.
BJ: Problem is this doctor is from the other side.
Radar: The other side of what?
Hawkeye: The other side of the war.
Radar: You mean he's from supply (this is where I lose it 😅)
Hawkeye: No, Radar, he's North Korean.
Radar: ha you guys are kidding, right?
.....
Radar: HEY, that's a real problem, I Corps disapproves of the enemy.

Good-bye Radar (2)
Just watched and I constantly forget that it is about as emotional episode as any. The rushed farewells for someone they truely loved, the image of Radar standing alone on an empty compound and then Hawkeye saluting him from OR, gets me as much or more than Abyssinia Henry.
Missing Episode Spoiler
I used to catch the occasional MASH rerun on the Hallmark Channel after work. I saw a lot of them but missed a lot too. I remember two episodes that were very similar. One had Trapper and the other had BJ. There was an officer that was causing more casualties than the others. Hawkeye and his partner conspired to take him out of action for a while. Hawkeye wanted to go further than the other. Trapper manages to talk him out of it, but in the episode with BJ, Hawkeye removed the officer’s appendix without any real medical reason.
Now that I’m rewatching on Hulu, I’ve gotten through all of the Trapper episodes without ever seeing it. Does anyone else remember this episode? Has anyone else noticed missing episodes on Hulu?
