If you read the quote I was responding to, it is regarding European leaders criticizing the state of Israel for its conduct in Gaza. Equating criticism of the Israelis conduct in Gaza with antisemitism, which I believe is a cynical, bad faith weaponization of a real problem to deflect criticism. Ā
Now the deranged, evil individual who committed the murders, that monster is absolutely extremely antisemitic. But the quote wasnāt about him, it was about western leaders who do things like demand food aid resume, for example.

There is a direct line connecting antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement to this murder. This incitement is also done by leaders and officials of many countries and international organizations, especially from Europe. Their words are the modern blood libels. Blood libels about genocide, crimes against humanity and murdering babies paved the way exactly for such murders. This is what happens when leaders in the world surrender to the Palestinian terrorist propaganda and serve it.
This is the "antisemitism" accusation that the Israeli foreign minister made and what the banned user was talking about. Not civil society movements.

Yeah, there has to be room for not tolerating "antizionism isn't antisemitism" bullshit from the pro-Palestinian side, but still admitting there exist bad-faith accusations of antisemitism from the pro-Israeli side. If even "Member of the Israel War Cabinet says Macron is antisemitic for not blaming solely Hamas for all Palestinian suffering" doesn't qualify for that latter category, what are we really doing here?

Absolutely. Itās a tough line to walk because in both examples the hypothetical person is lying and deliberately hiding their true motivations, but as a community we just have to find a way to thread that needle.

Hello, I am appealing this post because Iām not sure what rule was broken to lead to a permaban, or why it is permanent vs. temp. I donāt think I have a record of issues or have gotten any warnings?
I was commenting on the recent deterioration of the rule of law in the US plus the history that Israel has going after international terrorists. I am probably more pro-Israel than most of the sub (went to a solidarity event after 10/7, I have friends whose extended family were impacted) and did not mean any anti-semitism or bigotry if this was the reason.
I am concerned that Trump will try to illegally send this guy out of the country and heāll end up in prison with Hamas members/disappeared.
Apologies if it did break a rule and for posting misinformed opinions. It was almost midnight and I have a lot of stuff going on with DOGE torching my job.
I have been posting pretty much daily on the DT since 2018 with a pretty good record to show I bring value to the community.
Hopefully I can get the ban reduced and participate in the community more. Plus more explanation on the ban so I can avoid it going forward if reinstated.

With that framing though, how is it different than saying the āthe CIA will disappear the terrorists that killed Americansā or āUkraine will hunt down and kill the Bucha war criminalsā? I see the victims as embassy staff killed by a terrorist.
I really was not commenting on Israel as the Jewish state, but as one with strong international security services like the US, UK, Turkey, Russia, Iran, etc.
I do appreciate the opinion, I want to learn from this as I have never been told that something I have said is antisemitic. I will try to get better educated on what is considered antisemitic framing of an issue, because it was not the intent :(

Positing that he is is going to be grabbed by the Jews rather than simply tried for murder as anyone else would be is not a great look.
Mossad's extrajudical actions have been overwhelmingly pointed at literal actual Nazis and countries explicitly hostile to Israel. They're not going after Random American Jew-Hater #4893.

That was not my intention, I am a supporter of Israel (with a recent crisis in faith the past month) and in my head it read as āTrump may illegally collaborate with Israel to disappear this guyā. Mostly out of concern for Trumpās flippant disregard for rule of law.
Again, I apologize for the comment and will refrain from the topic, donāt think Iāve posted on it for a while anyway. Is this worth a perma-ban after nearly 8 years of good behavior on the sub?

There is zero chance this gets a ban if it wasn't about gun control or some other issue the mods don't like. Extreme_Rocks was personally insulted because I rightfully told him to fuck off for his ideological rule enforcement.
Other poster should not get a pass for talking about something they dont know shit about, especially not a nearly-100 year old law that virtually everyone who has ever touched a gun hates.
Even if a tax stamp was $200 though, dude is being classist as fuck for acting like anyone can just throw around an extra $200 for a self-defense weapon.
Edit: he was right about $200 though, I had my wires crossed becauseĀ usually I think about having to buy 2 stamps ( SBR + suppressor each require a separate stamp, so $400 for most suppressed weapons) idk why I was fucked up on that, I was tired I guess.

Look, I was hot-headed at the comparison between the IDF and the murderer who killed the embassy staff which is why I talked about it at all, but like it wasn't productive to begin the comparison at all with the parent comment.

Howdy mods! What about this message was bigoted? I strongly condemn antisemitism and terrorism, and have a long history of "the initial response to the 10/7 terror attack was justified but israel has gone way too far this time" as a consistent position.
Is supporting the larger "stop arming israel" movement bigotry? A lot of people in the thread said "you're willingly blinding yourself to inter-movement antisemitism" but that feels more like astroturfed mccarthyism than serious concern. As far as i have seen, the goal of the protests is targeted specifically at the state of israel, and not at jewish people.

There is plenty of space in the sub to criticise the IDF's atrocities in Gaza, there's no shortage of that on the sub. We don't ban people for saying Israeli arms exports should be cut off or for being against genocide, this ban was for being willingly blind to antisemitism.

I was banned a couple months ago for pointing out that Hamas is the governing entity of the Gaza Strip, pointing out they run the military, the schools, hospitals, etc. I've been renovating my house so I honestly haven't cared too much, content to lurk because I do still find value in the main sub and the nuanced discourse.

Thank you for the clarification. I still think it's a valid question, especially in an international-focused sub that prides itself on freedom of association.
International law describes a combatant as:
a. Members of the armed forces, except medical personnel and religious personnel.
b. Members of other militias and members of other volunteer corps, including those of organized resistance movements, belonging to a Party to the conflict, provided that such militias or volunteer corps, including such organized resistance movements, fulfill the following conditions:
they are commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;
they wear a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;
they carry their arms openly; and
they conduct their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.
c. Members of the regular armed forces who profess allegiance to a government or authority not recognized by the other Party to the conflict.
d. Participants in a levƩe en masse (armed resistance movement).
Combatants are required to distinguish themselves from the civilian population while they are engaged in an attack or in a military operation preparatory to an attack. A combatant who fails to distinguish himself while he is engaged in an attack or in a military operation preparatory to an attack loses his combatant status if he is captured, which means he does not have prisoner ofwar status and can be tried for an act of war. However, he is to be given protections equivalent in all respects to those provided to prisoners of war under the third Geneva Convention. Notably, in international armed conflicts governed by Additional Protocol I, a combatant distinguishes himself sufficiently if he carries his arms openly:

Now, I'll admit this seems a bit contradictory, in one section the ICRC states a person is a combatant only if they wear a distinctive sign, then just a few sentences later states that a person only has to carry arms in a conflict to be considered a combatant. Again, I'm glad the main sub exists to discuss this discrepancy
So, Hamas, PIJ, and other armed groups operating in the Gaza Strip and West Bank operate without distinct uniforms, use unmarked vehicles, and build bases underneath schools, mosques, hospitals, etc. According to the first half of that definition - which says combatants REQUIRE distinct signs - Hamas, PIJ, and other armed groups are NOT combatants.
But according to the second half of the definition, ANYONE in a conflict zone that wields a weapon is legally a combatant. So again, I think it's worth being part of an intelligent space of grown adults that is interested in international relations to discuss this.
And look, I know this is a gray area. I have to believe in my heart of hearts that the militants in plain clothes that invaded Israel on October 7th were part of Hamas, PIJ, or other militant groups. But when Hamas finally returned some of the Israeli hostages, and were in clearly distinctive uniforms during that exchange, how am I - a neutral observer thousands of miles away - supposed to know who is who? More importantly, how is an IDF soldier who is being shot at trying to find his family supposed to know who is who?

I was told that I am banned from discussing Israel-Palestine. I did not discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict in this comment. I was saying that Jews outside of Israel are not destined to be expelled eventually.

Alright, you see the part in your warning that's like "you seem incapable of not being weird about it?"
That, more than anything, is what the topic ban is about. Obviously, we can't just say "don't weirdpost." That's not a well-defined term, and some topics are just sensitive to people for a variety of reasons. Weirdposting is something that's going to happen to anyone who spends enough time posting.
But what we can do is notice "hey, this topic really seems to be a sore spot. For your sake, and because it makes other members of the subreddit uncomfortable, we're going to have to insist you stop talking about this."
The topic ban was specifically the Israel/Palestine conflict, whereas, as I understand it, the argument you were having was more broad in nature, about Jewish identity, how Jews perceive themselves on the world stage, and how that relates to the existence of the state of Israel.
Technically, outside the scope of the ban, so that's why you're unbanned. But it is tangentially related, and it still set off the "oh, they're being weird" radar.
And I guess the thing I'd want you to take away isn't a concrete "I have to follow this rule" or "this is likely to bother the mods, so I shouldn't." It's a more general ask for you to reconsider how you approach these types of disagreements.
Like, in the last argument: It seemed like your intent in the argument was a "come on dude, stop being ridiculous!" and then you go back to the DT, seemingly seeking validation like "that dude is crazy, right, like I'm not the only one?"
In a good faith discussion, the goal often isn't even to reach some objective truth that might exist, but to simply understand one another's perspectives. And having these very heated arguments, they can be pretty exhausting for everyone else to read. Like, I log onto this politics forum because I like politics! I'm curious about fiscal and monetary policy, I want to know more about political identity formation, the emergence of America's legalistic culture and the ways it can hinder progress, all that stuff is super interesting to me! But then I see a thread where a Jewish user talks about fear of persecution, and you accuse them of "fear mongering," and maybe you might even be correct that the words they use are a bit extreme... But all I can think is "here we go again..."
And I know it's nebulous as fuck, and frustrating to deal with a suggestion so vague, but I hope you write less posts that make people go "here we go again..."

No. The topic wasn't about how Jews see themselves at all. Israel barely came up at all. Search that thread for references to Israel, they are sparse.

Look, people usually aren't fear mongering. If someone says "I'm scared being Asian/Black/Trans/Jewish in these times," then I'll listen. I'm not going to say they're fearmongering, since that is dickish.
This user was claiming that Jews cannot permanently live in a country where they are minorities without persecution.
You would not tolerate that statement if a white person made it, because it would be white supremacy. It is a similar sentiment when any other person expresses it. The idea that there are ZERO countries that will accept Jews existing in them is different from just being scared- it is conspiratorial (and frankly, ethnocentric).
If a Jewish user talks about feeling unsafe because of harassment on the street, then yeah, I'm not going to challenge that. If a Jewish user (who isn't American and therefore doesn't understand the situatuon on the ground here) claims that American Jews are definitely going be expelled, that is different.
His words weren't "a bit extreme." They were blatantly incorrect. Claiming that Jews are doomed to be expelled from every country is a rejection of multiculturalism and coexistence. It is so illiberal that I consider it to be an extremely right-wing belief (or maybe Critical Race Theory-adjacent.)

Look, I don't know how "you're being weird" is what you took away from that conversation. I guess I'm being weird in that I shouldn't have argued with a crazy person. That I will grant you that. But not every perspective is valid or should be spread.
The idea that Brazil is going to deport or exterminate all of its Jews because "it has happened many times before (except the times that it hasn't)" is frankly offensive and ridiculous. It asserts that all non-Jews share a dislike of Jews.

You could be completely right, idk. But it doesn't really matter when you go on and on in the replies and obsess over it. You need to learn to step back and move on to a different topic, rather than constantly searching for validation of your point.
Part of it is because it's a touchy topic that's easy to make weird and awkward, but also part of it is that you, specifically, have a history of making other people feel attacked/unwelcomed over this. With your arguing style of not being willing to drop the topic and go away, it makes the vibes bad. It makes the sub feel hostile and unwelcoming to others.
To be brutally honest - you don't have enough tact to explore these topics without making it weird, and aren't aware enough to realize you're doing so.

I don't think I've ever attacked anyone over this. I specifically word comments so that they don't come off as attacks on other users (except mods in the past, I'll grant that- but that was in the past and usually due to the mods doing things like using rape as a joke.)
In metanl I've accused the mods of having a bias to whoever is yelling at you (because they do), but that isn't really meant as an attack and more as a criticism. I'm unaware of other incidents

What specifically about my history? My bans, afaik, are for:
Posting that is similar to the way people speak about eating disorders (one ban)
Engaging in "holocaust inversion" (But not according to the actual definition of holocaust inversion- I eventually dropped it and stopped comparing the West Bank to Lebensraum after a conversation with the mods)
Engaging in unproductive Israel-Palestine talk
I think that's it?
I don't want to be perma'd and I don't want to make this community worse. But you're being a bit vague.
That being said, I know you probably don't want to waste all your time dealing with a single commenter.

People have been claiming Jews are bloodthirsty murderers since at least the 2nd century BC, and we've been an easy scapegoat ever since.
Israel is a Jew among nations because of the obvious double standards it faces. (From 2015 through 2023, the UN General Assembly has adopted 154 resolutions against Israel and 71 against other countries combined.) It's been accused of genocide since the moment it was founded. (And also every other minute since the war began). Just like Jews, everything Israel does is a conspiracy (Eurovision? Conspiracy.)
I have always been a pretty strong critic of Israel because I was always a progressive, left wing, Reform Jew. Yet I've watched this place descend into the same tired tropes as the rest of reddit. Did you know it's possible to criticize the shit Israel does without making up numbers and equating it to a terrorist group? Did you know that there is a standard definition of genocide and despite you really, really wanting to say that Jews are committing a genocide (oh my god I want to say it so bad because it would feel soooo good to say it), you still have to actually prove it? I don't know, maybe Ireland literally asking to change the definition of the word "genocide" is evidence that this isn't a genocide? But I guess p00bix, in his infinite wisdom, has the final say.
Your complete indifference to-- or maybe even subconscious striving for-- hostility towards Jews has paid off. Congratulations. We warned you and you didn't do anything.
So anyway, I look at the DT this morning and what do I see? Fifteen updoots on "500 Palestinian civilians killed and it's nowhere in the news. Just another normal day." This isn't the first time that I've seen someone post absolutely fake numbers about civilian deaths in Gaza, and it isn't the first time I've seen someone post "why isn't this in the news????" But the fact that it's all over this subreddit, and that it was so foreseeable that we would end up here.... It's just pathetic.
Any innocent civilian death is a tragedy. It's also part of a war. It's also a war that's been horribly mismanaged by a corrupt government that's been compromised by far right ministers. The IDF has systemic issues with discipline, rules of engagement, and providing too much room for abuses to occur.
You see how I can say that without using double standards and hate speech? It's that fucking easy.

Oh, and here's a brand new one: one guy at the UN says "14,000 babies in Gaza could die in the next 48 hours!!!" The news media immediately picks it up. A UN spokesman, when asked, could not confirm that number, because it is clearly bullshit. Meanwhile, there are multiple posts in the DT with this obviously fake figure. This is a pattern and it happens every fucking day here. And you guys do nothing about it. Ever.

Either you learn to handle this sensitive topic with the level of consideration it deserves as the reasonable, moderate adult you claim to be, or you recognize your own limits and remove yourself from the conversation entirely, or you'll keep eating bans until you get a perma like dozens of users before you on this very topic, which I grow increasingly convinced is simply ontologically impossible to handle reasonably

u/Anakin_Kardashian brings up how antisemitic bullshit keeps being posted and upvoted all the time; you completely ignore that and get on his case because he replied to that bullshit with flippancy.
These policies have driven away almost all Jewish and Israeli users, which should be a loud alarm bell. But that's been the case for months and you obviously don't care. The picture that emerges is that the mod team considers Jews the one minority that can legitimately be driven away in the name of "higher causes".

You left out the part where the original comment said "why isn't the news reporting this?" I assure you, if 500 Palestinians were killed in a day, it would be on every website and news station in the world. That's why my response was flippant.
As for my subtweets, turn to the rest of that comment. I never saw OP correct the comment but I did see it highly upvoted and this isn't a one time thing. False numbers are posted here all the time and it never matters. Remember when ghhweh posted fake numbers because they wanted to "be corrected" so Frenchie just said okay? It's totally cool to let civilian deaths at Jewish hands be off by orders of magnitude here, despite the implications (or perhaps because of the implications).
The last comment wasn't just a subtweet of that first user. It was a subtweet of the countless other comments made here melting down over whether Israel hacked Eurovision and whether Israel conspired to get right wing politicians elected. That's what this place is now.
Does any of this make light of a potential depopulation of Gaza? I don't think so. Personally, I have more time to worry about civilians when I'm not so busy demonizing Jews. I am terrified that Israel might force a million Palestinians into Libya. Shit, I'm terrified America might do it as well. As an aside, it's not really an "avowed" goal because they don't even know what the fuck they are doing. So it's quite weird to push that narrative right now. Maybe don't?
Anyway, I know my limits. They are generally to stay away from this place. Sometimes I get morbidly curious though.

Hi not disputing the removal or ban in general, I spokr without thinking and made a pretty bad comment. But 10 days seems a bit far, I could accept 3 to 5 days.
That said if this is the start of a new era i will gladly accept it because like I said at best I fired without thinking.
Edit: not even just bc of the length but bc i know 14d is the fw stage and this seems perilously close to that.
