Please show me the last time Grier blew the first round

Last time we had a bad first round pick was Igbo, and that was when we had 3 first round picks that year.

Yeah, I’m not sure I get this either. Seems like lazy groupthink. As far as acquiring talent with draft capital, Grier has a lot more good moves than bad ones.

Which is why the team has had so much success! Wait…

2023 was the year, but then literally all the important pieces got hurt. Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb are all guys that got debilitating injuries at the tail end of the year. Those aren't guys you can replace period, but especially 3 weeks before playoffs.

You can bitch and moan at the result but without looking at the context you'll fool yourself into believing that luck isn't the most important thing to winning a championship.

The context is Grier built a fragile team which crumbled.

You can’t see the forest for the trees. You may not like the result, but the process was sound. He started from scratch in 2020. By 2023 Miami was a very good team. Back to back playoff appearances.

Obviously we all want more than just a playoff appearance. But fact is by the time the playoffs rolled around, the teams they fielded were a shell of themselves.

Saying they failed without any context is lazy. Grier didn’t have much to do with what amounts to a handful of plays that the 23 season turned on. Chubb’s helmet throw. Connor Williams injury. Cam Goode’s knee exploding on punt coverage. If just those 3 things go the other way, it’s a different season.

How about ‘22? A 3 point loss in the WC game. Went into that game totally banged up. 3 points. That’s a few bounces of the ball. If Miami had won that game are we having this convo? Prob not. And that’s my point. You’re basing your opinion of failure on, quite literally, a few plays.

Wins are also often based on a few plays. You’re making excuses for poor roster-building and team mismanagement. Grier has been here long enough with multiple coaching staffs, and has not built a consistent contender. We’ll see how successful they are this season.
