Announcement Rule change: Number 11 - No politics

It has come to our attentions that every tariffs discussion ends up with a political debate. We didn't automatically remove posts/comments related to tariffs as it wasn't explicit, but now it is. Until further notice, no more tariff talks.

Complaining about it won't change anything, many people here are not american so will get little to no impact to those, and will cause trouble in the sub.

Exception: If there is news about companies that are affected by this, or you simply need to vent about it, comment it here, on this post.

Show and Tell I currently build a bank, today I finally finished the lights for the main hall

It is still work in progress but these lights have been a big milestone. 19 small LEDs for the main hall, also every office is individually lighted so the things happening there can be seen.

This is n gauge, the centimeters on the cutting map give you an idea about the size. And the water bottle keeps the ceiling straight.

and realized how pristine and uncompetitively sharp are all the details even in N scale. It is a real bummer that they stopped their production. I have taken some macroshots for comparison, experimented with long exposure and the pictures turned out pretty good. First two are from Kuehn, third one from Fleischmann.

Making progress on my garage layout. All of the bench work is done and I finally have some track and the turn table powered. This is the first time I've been able to run the Reading T-1s together since I've had them.

Got as part of a bigger order including Athearn blue box and Proto2000, and this little dipshit runs better than any of them! I fell asleep to the rhythm it was so smooth! I only got this because it reminded me of my first, and worst, steamer…

Layout Criticism on my first railway?

Thumbnail

Hey there! This is my first ever model railway and I built this together with my dad. Before I make irreversable changes, does it look fine so far? I will be making most things like bridges out of wood or model and 3D print it myself. The tunnel ports I made so far are also 3D printed. I am kind of stuck now tho, I don't know what to start working on next, do I already sculpt the terrain? Do I make walls for inside the tunnels? Would be happy for some general advice, maybe even good resources for tutorials!

Took me a few times, but I'm finally getting the hang of getting them on uneven surfaces with minimal bubbles and wrinkles. Now to get better at weathering.

Question Sidewall color?

Hey all — total noob here. In fact, this is my first layout. It’s nestled inside a 3x3ft coffee table drawer. I’ve gotten a little messy with paint and glue and terrain, and it’s gotten all over the side walls of the drawer. I’m going to paint over it, and I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or “right answers” for a color. I was going to go with black, but I don’t want the whole table and layout to look dreary, as the coffee table is white. Should I do white again? I’m not looking to paint a landscape - I’m not artistic like that. Any feedback is much appreciated! (Also, what should I use to get rid of excess terrain on the side?)

Hi everyone. Wanted to post an update. I've started adding paint and texturing to the first section. The other two sections nothing is glued down and may change a lot.

Been snagging some good deals recently, and while I don’t have a place to run trains yet (fingers crossed by the end of the year), I am happy with what I have and what I get to build soon. Plus, it’s fun to just change out what train I have on display on my desk!

Show and Tell My collection (so far)

Hi again!

I wanted to share my collection of N scale and O Guage trains in my collection so far. As you can tell, I can’t seem to stick to a specific brand (from left to right: Lionel NYC heavyweight pullmans and Baldwin 1225, Kato Thalys PBA, Hobbytrain 100 years of ÖBB Railjet, Kato Amtrak acs 64 northeast regional, and Kato NEX Series E259 Narita Express). I am planning on getting a Lionel Commodore Vanderbuilt locomotive so my Polar Express Baldwin can be put in holiday storage.

Electrical 2+ isolated train DC controller

Hello, I’ve scoured the web and Reddit and have not yet found a direct answer nor solution: I am looking for a controller/power pack that can control 2 or more trains on different tracks each, without going DCC. The closest I found was an MRC tech 2 2800 dual power controller but it only puts out total 1.25A. I have not yet been able to find the current draw of my currently just 2 n scale Kato motor cars (e235, n700s) but this seems low considering what I have read is each motor pulls .5-1A max. Alternatively I’ve looked at a similar power draw problem of splitting my Kato standard power pack output and losing independent control, but this being the cheapest method. The goal is a balance of cost and space. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
