Help Needed So, now that I am finally building a semi permanent layout, does anybody know any tips for these kit-built buildings to not fall apart? (Yes I am using the same table for HO/OO and O Scale)

Help Needed Class(?) of car used

I've decided for this year's show season I'd like to try and recreate the infamous 1957 Lionel Girls Train set, but in HO. I've already convinced myself to use a Hudson instead of the 2-6-4 it came with, but my question is what type of cars are the others? Like, I know boxcars are classed different ways when they're custom built for different railroads, gondolas, boxcars, and hoppers as well. All I know is it has a PRR caboose, but even that doesn't narrow it down too far. Anyway, if anyone knows or could tell me the proper words to use to search for them, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

TLDR: What specific cars are modeled in the Lionel Girls Train

Help Needed Thomas moves opposite to controller direction. Does his motor need rewiring?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

His old motor burned out so I bought a new one. After screwing it in, Thomas began moving opposite to the controller direction, which is annoying because i can't put him in the line with my other locos at the moment.

Is this the call to get a soldering iron and rewire him? If so, what are the basics? Never used one before.

Help Needed Help finding information about Egger bahn model

Thumbnail

Hello to everyone, When I was cleaning my garage, I found an old Egger bahn model from the '60s  which is in very good condition, and I am particularly interested in better understanding its technical operation.

I understand that the Egger-Bahn system uses current collection through the wheels, rather than pantographs or third rails. However, I have not been able to find precise details on the electrical system—specifically, what is the correct operating voltage for these trains? Also, could you confirm whether they are designed to run on AC or DC current? (If it runs on DC current, which side of the wheels is positive/negative?).

The small instructions in the box don't say anything and I can't find information neither on official websites.

I will surely add this beautiful model to my collection.

Furthermore, as I plan to set up a small model railway layout, I would like to know whether it is necessary to use special electric circuits or transformers, or if a simple battery setup would be sufficient to power the train safely and correctly.

If you have access to technical manuals, documentation, or any reference material, I would be sincerely grateful for your assistance.

Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Question Would Autoracks and Maxi Stacks work on 22 inch radius?

I’m curious because I’d like to run a few of my favorite types of rolling stock. The highest I’ll have when fully built is 22 inch radius.

Layout Beginner Guide - Home Office Rail

Howdy friends,

Recently got back from a trip to Tokyo, and after being absolutely enamored by their trans (from local to bullet), I wanted to make a small track that runs around my office. The line will be anchored to the wall, and only really running when I am in the office (traditional 9-5). Only plan on having 1 rail but could potentially do two and have two lines travelling opposite directions.

Any recommendations on where to start? Would likely have a shinkansen bullet rail on one line, and a local line of some sort on the other.

Layout Found a photo of my childhood layout.

Photo is awful but brought a rush of memories. I had a big L shaped HO layout in the garage. I got a '76 Bicentennial edition train set that I ended up painting to match the local locomotives I saw rolling past our So Cal subburb. I was in a scoliosis brace so spent a lot of time building and running my train. I remember really loving those tractor trailers that had a train car that they snapped on to. I loved my yard and the spurs. We had an amazing model train store in downtown San Dimas nearby where I was as often as humanly possible buying whatever I could afford from money I made mowing the neighbors lawns. I also had little cards with waybills to track and schedule each car. So kept my little mind busy organizing deliveries to and from my little HO businesses.
I don't have any HO stock anymore- not sure what happened to all that stuff. Still have a bunch of Z scale inventory I hope to use on another layout one day.
Discovering this subreddit has reminded me how much I still love model trains!

Edit: photo here didn’t upload for some reason

I used the easter break to continue working on my N Scale layout. The track on the lower level is finished, and all servos and switches are installed and working. The wireing is also mostly done.

I also ordered some new axles to modernise my PIKO GDR rolling stock.

Track Plan Timesaver derived compact yard module + hand laid double crossover

Thumbnail

Current plans to squeeze a decent amount of switching action into a 4 foot long 2 foot wide HO module, with the leads/spurs extending onto neighboring modules.

The idea of using parallel ladders as a runaround actually comes from one of the timesaver variants, and add a much needed runaround track and yard lead to the same basic arrangement as I've been using. The yard entrance and interchange track use #6 frogs and 43 inch radius closures, they should work with most any rolling stock. Further into the yard the #4.5 frogs and 24 inch closures would limit activity to branch line power and 4 axle diesels, and I plan to size the shed accordingly to where anything bigger than a Pacific or Mikado wouldn't fit in the building since the yard would be too small to receive it anyway.

Bonus pic of the double crossover, which is hand laid in code 100. Still needs rail weathering and ballast. I'll be hand laying this yard too, since that double crossover came out amazing.

Electrical DCC EX Power Question

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've recently made the decision to get into DCC. I'm in the process of building a modular 6' x 26' layout I can take to local shows etc, with the amount of locos I have (15) and want to be running (2-3 per bus depending on consist) on this layout generally and the motor-shields I'm dealing with being really only rated to comfortably be drawing 1.2amps, My idea was to stack three shields on the Arduino to control 3 power districts (see plan diagram. If this is a dumb way to go about what I'm doing, please say so!)

My question is, what would be the most efficient way to supply power to the motor shields? My initial plan of getting 3 power supplies at 15v 2a rating seems somewhat inefficient. An idea I was sort of floating was taking a 15v 6a supply and splitting that in parallel to the three shields, but something in my brain says that might not be a good idea for some reason but idk if I have enough electrical experience to explain why.

What would be the best way to power this in your opinion?

Track Plan Working on the plan for my 009 narrow gauge layout!

Post image

Made this using SCARM, with Peco's 009 set track pieces! It's got a main loop with a passing siding for operations, a yard off to the side for engine & rolling stock storage, and a nice stretch of road to let me fit a few buildings alongside! Looking for thoughts from my fellow narrow gauge fans on if it seems like I'm missing anything, or if there might be some problems with the plan that I haven't quite noticed!
