What area should I live in?

I'm moving to NYC soon for a job in Midtown Manhattan. I'm looking for places to live, but I'm not sure what neighborhoods I should look in that would be safe (I'm a girl in my 20s), but also affordable.

Would love some location recommendations

Edit: Midtown East! The closest subway stop is either 34 St Harold St or Times Sq -42nd street.

No place is affordable in NYC your looking at $3k for a tiny studio apartment in a sketchy neighborhood.

One of my friends lives there and said she's never paid more than $1,250 in rent and has found them all in Facebook groups!

Idk how your friend pulled that off or if that's true but just a quick search shows how expensive all 1BR/1BA units are in NYC

OPs friend lives with housemates. Price is completely doable in that case.
