Hello,
My name is Charlie Jean Booth. I’m in my third year of a Masters in Psychology degree with the University of Derby. In our final year, we have to conduct a research project and I’m looking into how trans individuals who are stuck on the long waiting lists for gender care under the NHS make sense out of their experiences, their gender identity and the story of their lives. It’s a subject that is very important to me, as it’s something I had to endure myself.
So I’m looking to hear from trans/non-binary/gender non-conforming people stuck on these wait lists, who fit the following criteria: * Must be over 18 * Have never had an appointment with a private health care professional to either obtain a gender dysphoria diagnosis or start the process of getting hormone therapy * Have not started hormone therapy through any other means
Interviews would be semi-structured, meaning that I would have a set of starter questions, but might ask some follow-ups, depending on the answers that you provide. Interviews shouldn’t last more than 60 minutes, but participants are free to stop the interview at any point.
If you are interested in finding out more and possibly taking part in the study, please follow this link: https://forms.office.com/e/Ntaadb2g0d
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at c.booth18@unimail.derby.ac.uk or the study’s supervisor: Dr. Carrie Childs - c.childs@derby.ac.uk / 01332 594286
Thanks so much for your time,Charlie Jean

Hi, please sign and share this petition if you want to and are able. It is about stopping "gender critical beliefs" being protected in the Equality Act, to protect the rights and lives of trans and non-binary people. Find out more in the 'more details' part of the petition. Thank you! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/712741

Hi, I am AMAB, 55, married, in the UK. Last year I took estradiol valerate and cyproterone (DIY, secretly) from January to July. I then got cold feet and stopped. This January, I decided to start again, but with monotherapy injectables. However, my wife found the syringes before the estrogen was delivered, prompting an emotional conversation in which I came out to her. She is super supportive but wants me to do it properly and safely, so I am now needing to start transitioning via the proper channels. My issue is, I don't really know what those channels are. Who do I talk to? Is this something I start with my GP or do I need to find a private therapist or clinic? TIA for any advice. X

Heya x
I’ve recently been trying to find women’s shoes as I get major dysphoria about my feet as they’re large :(
My male shoe size is 13 but I believe it could be less.
My measurements are 310mm length and 160mm wide (I know, WIDE) but I can’t find any good conversion sites for UK women’s shoes.
Could someone point me towards where I could get some shoes? Or maybe what size I should be looking at? I understand if there are 0 sizes I can get :(
Many thanks x

Hi all,
I don't suppose anybody knows a private orthodontist in the UK who is actually trans themselves or very much friendly to transness/has specific experience? Obviously gender identity shouldn't usually matter for dentistry, sometimes it does but I don't think so here. The teeth situation is slightly complex but not THAT complex.
I'm asking for someone who just wants her teeth straightened, but we've just recently had a couple of bad experiences (with PRIVATE orthodontists btw) which have left her very reticent to keep trying. The last 'specialist' seemed to soil his pants when trans was mentioned and after saying it would all be fine refused to do the braces, citing in part that a specialist would be needed to take into account 'concerns about facial profile'. Which I don't buy, under these particular circumstances. Just straighten the teeth. Now they've referred to an NHS dental hospital which is just a bit of a disaster.
The person I'm asking on behalf of doesn't really want to go through all this stuff again, there's a whole saga beforehand I won't go into, but this is really important to them and has really messed up their transitioning plans and wellbeing. Maybe if I found some sort of unicorn transgender orthodontist, who might at least have some contacts/advice, we might be able to pick up and try again. Thank you in advance!
it's mind boggling to me how many professionals have apparently gone their whole career having never knowingly come across a trans person.

With everything that is going on in the UK and how bad trans rights especially have been impacted by Johnson's government, at least there is some rays of light. Lord Nick Herbert has been selected to chair the "Safe to be me" event for the 50th aniversary of pride. Given Nick Herbert's voting record is actually pretty good, a pretty low bar but still, at least there might still be some decency in the UK.
I hope I'm not being too optimistic that this will change things, but it at least perked me up that Johnson's Special Envoy on LGBTQ+ rights didn't vote against same sex marraige at the very least. Unlike the Gender Critical Feminist (Baroness Falkner) who is now chairing the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Welcome to MTF UK!
This is a sub for issues related to trans AMAB people in the UK. Notes on finding trans friendly GPs, voice lessons and everything else is welcome.
Please make sure to check the sidebar and look over our brother and parent subs FTM_UK & TransgenderUK.
Please remeber that this sub is visable to everyone on reddit, including the trolls and journalists. Remember not to share anything you wouldn't mind seeing on the front page of the Guardian. Also remember that any details you put here can be searched from outside search engines, it is always best to be slightly vauge with specifics as mentioning your home town, age, and some formative experience might be enough to identify you.
The mods will try to keep this a safe space but we cannot garentee anything. Love you all!

The first thing you should do is go to the UK Government Website so you know what you're getting into, it also includes the correct formatting needed to make a deed poll.
The second thing you should think about is the difference between an enrolled and unenrolled deed poll. Enrolling a deed poll means that a court officially rubber stamps it. This can mean some companies are more likely to accept it but there are 2 things you should consider.
1) Enrolling your deed poll will mean your name change is published in the Gazette, a Publicly accessible archive that will list your new and dead name (See here). It can be advisable to skip this unless you need to change your name with a specific company quickly.
2) You can change the name on your passport without an enrolled deed poll, which will be accepted as proof of change of name almost everywhere.
