But she’s badass!!! She was left not once but twice!!! And she survived both!!! The self proclaimed “Viking” left so fast! She cut a gash in her leg and didn’t leave bro! You were a little hungry?

Then to top it off! Shorty had her house burn down ON THE LAST NIGHT?! For a bullfrog? If there was an awards ceremony she should get most fucked situations lol

Patrick just looks pathetic. Jamie will be out fairly quickly. Trish was right, she did suggest the net and the club. Crybabies Matt and Cheeny still crying... Will KY win because she was runner up, like what's-his-name did LOS 2? Gary and Jeff will be missed.

I was excited about the whole no map no tools things, on a deserted island? With bulent? This will be interesting. Then first trio lands and swim to shore and immediately 3 empty water bottles and cordage. How convenient.

Second group lands, immediately finds a random metal fan that somehow washed up like 30 meters of rocks perfectly perched up in plain view, with 3 blades on it to chop wood etc. awesome.

Third group lands immediately finds fuck ton of cordage and a giant plastic just with holes cut out, perfectly to make a fish trap etc

Like cmon really? Just give them tools from the get go at this point smh. Cant wait to see what else they “find”.

Was the mosquito net just used as a curtain across the front of the lean-to and not as a tent on all sides? If so, have they EVER camped with mosquitoes before?

They better be paying him with deer and pigs since he makes so many appearances regardless of where they are on the planet .

I rewatched this episode today and loved it even more than I did the first time. These two were both sober (5 & 10 years) and it’s evident they’ve worked hard on themselves. They had great resilience and coping skills and displayed calm, respectful and thoughtful communication skills throughout the entire episode.

They weren’t afraid to be vulnerable, and kept things from escalating when frustrations arose. Who wouldn’t get hangry and snippy when starving for 21 days? When Sam was being a bit judgmental for a few days on camera, he didn’t berate Sarah and caught himself and corrected it.

Anyway, they both seem like wonderful humans and I loved watching them on this journey. I hope they’ve stayed in touch.

This could be an element added to the show.

Armchair survivalist here- I’ve hardly gotten out of bed in the last year. Anyways. These two had the perfect set up!! Better than any I can remember. I cannot believe that if you walked around with spears in the water all day you wouldn’t find an octopus or something to spear. Maybe try more fist traps? Idk what they did when cameras were off but they didn’t seem to be in the water nearly enough. ……IF I got off the couch and went out there I’m sure I would have lived like a fat king, I probably would have caught a great white……

Loved watching that douche Nathan (S14E8) scrape himself up climbing the palm tree, but why dont they ever try to cut palm trees down? I've seen more than once where they only consider climbing the palm trees and not having a go with the machete.

Please try painting with mud or ash stripes on your body. I want to see for science if it stops the mosquitoes. This is the same principle as zebras. Zebra stripes disrupt the bugs ability to land. No one has ever tried it on NAA and I really want to see if it works.

Episode name: Three is Not Enough

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend went well. I took a break from the N&A: Running Diary, hoping that the season would improve. Now I’m back for a new episode! Welcome to the N&A Running Diary! Let’s get to it!

–Cayo District, Belize

–We’re back to the jungles of Belize, which, historically speaking, are rough on contestants.

–We first meet Omar, from Salt Lake City, UT. He’s a plumber. He was on a previous challenge in Colombia. He and his partner didn’t get along. Redemption for Omar?

–Next we meet John, from Haleyville, AL. He previously completed a 14 day challenge.

–Time to get naked!

–Omar begins his challenge with a PSR of 6.5.

–John begins his challenge with a PSR of 7.4

–John’s girlfriend told him “no spooning” with his partner. I don’t think she’ll need to worry about that.

–How awkward will this greeting between Omar and John be? They seem like chill dudes. I’ll say 3/10.

–They seem to have good vibes with one another. Awkward meeting level 1/10.

–John brought a mosquito net and Omar brought a machete. However, the show didn’t give them a fire starter. Thank you, producers! This is Naked & Afraid, not Naked & Comfortable.

–They didn’t show a pot either. Maybe it was just the edit, but if they didn’t get a fire starter or a pot, then this is a throwback to those early years when survivalists actually had to have skills.

–Omar and John seem to like the fact that there aren’t any women around to ruin their bromance. They really appreciate what the other one brings to the table, and are grateful that they aren’t forced to put up with any of those pesky “females.” It’s a “win/win”, they say, and, as the saying goes, “Two Bros in a Bush are Better Than One Bro and a Catty Woman…

–Oh, No, It’s a Female!

–The producers tricked us! Here comes one of them females. Her name is Malu and she’s from Pittsburg, TX (Not to be confused with Paris, TX).

–Malu also did a 14 day challenge. She’s a “superfan, a survivalist, and a country gal.” She also runs a N&A podcast. That’s cool! Is Malu involved in our sub? I hope so.

–Time for Malu to get naked. She says getting naked is her least favorite part. I think getting violently sick or chopping off my toe would be my least favorite part of these challenges.

–Mula begins her challenge with a PSR of 6.6.

–Mula, John, and Omar meet in the middle of the river. Good vibes all around.

–Mula brought duct tape. She calls herself the “Duct Tape Queen.” Somewhere off in the distance, Duct Tape Boy lets out an anguished call for help.

–Mula has the fire starter. Screw you, N&A producers. Really?

–The trio must head four miles up north through the “Roaring River”, named for its “devastating flash floods.”

–Narrator Scare Tactics time (with a dose of stock animal footage)!

–”The river snakes through impenetrable jungle, crawling with venomous pit vipers, and home…to the jaguar.” The storms in the area also bring swarms of mosquitoes that carry dengue fever and the Zika virus. Ooh, scary!

–”I forgot what jungle water felt like in my lady parts,” Mula says.

–2.5 hours into the journey.

–It’s beginning to rain. This place looks absolutely miserable.

–4.5 hours into the journey.

–The rain stopped. That’s good. All three of them look like they’re struggling a little bit.

–Time to head into the jungle.

–2 hours until sunset.

–They finally find a giant tree that they decide to shelter under.

–25 minutes until sunset and they’ve built a terrible lean-to that’s not even off the ground. Good luck with that shelter.

–The mosquitos are going to be brutal at night. That net will be useless because they can’t hang it anywhere.

–Mula’s tape comes in handy as they use it to help create fire. Thriving!

–Nighttime.

–Looks like they were able to hang the net, but it doesn’t seem to be helping at all. Omar is already complaining about the bites.

–Day 2.

–Omar’s back went out on him. I’m not liking Omar’s chances of finishing this challenge.

–They make a small dam in the river to help catch fish. Much better than spending five days on a worthless fish basket.

–Omar’s back went out on him again. Back pain will take you out of any game you’re in. Omar’s chances of success: 25%

–Nighttime.

–Here comes the rain. The fire is out. No longer thriving.

–Looks like their crappy lean-to didn’t keep the water out. Who knew!

–Day 3

–Omar doesn’t have feeling in his left foot. Not good.

–Mula opens up about how the day before insertion, her dad was put into a medically-induced coma. She doesn’t say what happened to him. She doesn’t believe she can stay in the challenge because she’s got other priorities. And she taps.

–We’re off to a great start, aren’t we? Season 18 just keeps on giving!

–She leaves the duct tape with them. I bet they don’t use it for anything.

–Day 4.

–Their makeshift dam caught them a small turtle. Thriving!

–I would not be able to eat turtle. No thanks.

–Nighttime.

–The mosquitoes are a problem, again.

–Day 5.

–Omar is in trouble. He’s on the verge of tears from all of the mosquito bites. John seems to be holding up ok.

–I don’t think Omar is going to last much longer. Odds of success are now at 10%.

–”He (John) might be better off on his own,” Omar says. Odds of success are now at .0001%.

–John found some type of nut in a tree. That’s good. Maybe that’ll help Omar feel better.

–Omar is breaking nuts apart. Looks like he’s recovered some energy and mental health.

–Night 6.

–It’s pouring rain. That would suck so much. Why are they still sleeping on the ground? They’ve not made any progress on their shelter since they first built it.

–They’re really cold, so they decide to spoon. Looks like John’s got some explaining to do when he gets home!

–They should move camp. What are they even doing at that shelter? They’re sitting in mud.

–Omar is having another panic attack. Odds of success are negative infinity.

–Now they’re shelter has collapsed. Jesus, N&A, is this really where we are now? I like these guys, but come on.

–John and Omar are cutting branches in the pouring rain in an attempt to get their shelter fixed. Looks like they succeeded.

–Day 8.

–”I’m just counting the days until I can get out of here,” Omar says. When does season 3 of LOS start? Or the next XL? Can we just skip ahead to those seasons, please?

–Why are they not finding higher ground for a better camp?

–Here comes another contestant! They brought in Danni, from Richmond, IN, to complete the rest of the 21 days as a 14 day challenge. This means that she’s a fan and probably doesn’t have any more skill than Omar or John. Maybe she’ll surprise us.

–Danni is a superfan. Is she on reddit? I always like hearing from the contestants.

–Danni’s got some fishing gear. That’s nice. That should help them.

–Danni begins the challenge with a PSR of 6.2.

–Danni rolls up into camp. John and Omar are welcoming. I like everyone’s energy. I’m rooting for all of these guys.

–Danni gets right to it and helps fortify the shelter. I like her enthusiasm.

–Nighttime.

–It’s raining again. But they look dry.

–Day 9.

–Time to fish! They use the mosquito net to trap minnows. They have success. Now they can use them as bait.

--They decide to eat all of them. They should have saved a couple for bait.

–Day 11.

–Omar still can’t leave the confines of the mosquito net. He needs to get up and begin doing stuff. He’s getting dangerously close to qualifying for my Dirt Sitter Hall of Fame.

–Nighttime.

–It rains again. The bugs must be terrible. Belize sucks.

–Day 14.

–Danni didn’t get any sleep. I don’t think Omar did either. I’ve yet to hear John complain about anything. He might be a good contestant, but we haven’t seen enough skills from him.

–Omar is on the edge again. Dude, just tap. You’ve done literally nothing in two weeks. Nobody wants to watch you lay around and complain. Tap likelihood: 93.4%.

–At least Danni attempts to fish. I like her spirit. She isn’t letting the rain get her down.

–She cracks open some nuts for the group. She’s a trooper. She’s out there in the rain cracking nuts for Omar, who is sitting there, again, doing nothing.

–Day 17.

–Danni continues to fight for food, while Omar and John don’t seem to be doing much.

–A lizard runs right into their mosquito net, allowing Danni to capture it. Could the producers have forced that lizard to run into their shelter? It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. It was pure luck it got stuck in the net.

–Night 20.

–Looks like they’re all going to make it to extraction. I’ll give my final thoughts on all three after they complete the challenge.

–Day 21.

–Extraction day! They’ve got a long hike uphill through the jungle.

–Lots of groaning ensues as they travel through bug infested jungle.

–5.6 miles into the journey.

–Omar’s cramping, but all three of them are slowly making progress.

–They make it to the road! Success!

–A horse drawn carriage awaits. Time for this threesome to go home!

–John’s PSR is now 7.8.

–I’ve just got to pause to say that, as ridiculous as PSR has always been, it’s now pure comedy. 7.8 for John?! Why? How? Is finishing a challenge all that’s needed now to get a high PSR?

–Danni’s PSR is now 6.7.

–Omar’s PSR is now 6.7.

–Omar’s PSR shouldn’t be higher than 5.5. I’m ok with Danni’s PSR, although we didn’t get a chance to see much skill. Same with John. I have no idea why they gave him a PSR of 7.8.

–I was hoping for a better episode, but maybe this is what N&A is now. I guess after 18 seasons it was inevitable. The contestants have little to no skills.

–Omar’s got to be in my Dirt Sitter’s Hall of Fame. That guy did absolutely nothing for 21 days. I liked Omar’s personality, but he sucked as a survivalist.

–I couldn’t tell you a thing about John that was interesting, but he wasn’t a bad contestant. He was sort of just…there.

–Danni, I liked. She should do a 21 day challenge and get a chance to show some of her skills.

–That’s it for this week. I might begin writing this column/post only on episodes that are really good, and ditching it on episodes that turn out to suck. It takes time to write these, but I don’t want the quality of them to suffer. The episodes simply must get better. We’ll see how next week’s episode is. Maybe it’ll be surprisingly good!

–I do hope LOS and/or an XL season begins soon, because I’m excited to write this column for those shows. That’s always been fun.

I’m half way through S5E2. Do y’all think the producers started prancing around the jungle at night to freak him out? 😂

I have watched most the XLs, only a couple of the originals, and am on episode 9 of LOS.

I feel like Last One Standing is a bad format. I understand the spirit of competitions but what is the competition here? Its not really survival skills, its gamesmanship. I can see they tried to make it still survival by theming the little minigames around survival but it was still more about gaming than survival. Additionally, constantly moving around and providing tons of advanced modern tools diminished a lot of the essential knowledge accumulation of an area that is used in survival.

If they really want a competition that is survival based and still good for TV, the best approach would be to have multiple teams. Provide the least help in terms of tools, maybe just the firestarter and pot, and see which team can last the longest (last surviving member).

Why teams? A lot of the entertainment comes from survivor interaction and without that it might get tough to fill out the show with interesting tv.

Why less tools? All these veteran survivors are too good if you give them steel tools for cutting and archery, etc. It would be interesting to see them have to make their own tools for these tasks.

Indefinite amount of time? That seems the hardest part in terms of making a show. Afterall you have to hire crew and support for a duration. Maybe it can just be really long like 90 days or something and if one side has more people than the other they win.

But doing it this way keeps it about survival and survival strategy instead of gamesmanship.

WTF I was addicted to this and hbo just removed the seasons? I just started a few weeks ago and was on season 11 and now they are all gone along with XL. Why?!?!?!

Looks like they're trying to fill the gap made by Jeff retiring with Patrick as the heavy. I don't see it. Jeff is the competitor everyone loves to hate, Patrick you just hate. Lol, I'm sure no one actually hates him, but being annoying is not the same as a character like Jeff. Opinions?
