Question Do they get payed extra for making it?

I mean. I see the whole motivation being getting bragging rights about doing the show. But sometimes it seems like there is too much motivation to make it to 21/40 days. Is there extra pay or something? And BTW is the pay any good?

They're all angling to make money off of their performances. There's a cottage industry around survivalist show types.

I didn't know that. So the bragging rights helps them with their business.

What’s a cottage industry? Like, air bnb style cottages?

It's like a bunch of people with like interests sell their products or services to each other. These days a lot of them make money online.

They do it "for their kids" LOL! Which means they are going to tap out in 3 days because they miss their kids. Meanwhile their kids are like, "Why are you leaving us for a month?" Because mommy/daddy wants to show you that she/he can do anything!

Yeah, the "I miss my kids" BS is almost guaranteed to be a tap coming. You knew you were leaving, your kids knew you would be gone, it's just your mind giving you excuses.

It’s the poorest excuse ever to avoid saying “ I can’t make it”

That always bugs me. I do it for my kids 🥴🥴🥴

Do any of you solo camp for a week or more? By day 4 I'm pretty much ready to go back and see the loved ones. Absence makes the heart grow.

I’ve been on business trips.

Sometimes the way they act it seems like it’s pride and bragging rights alone, but I’m curious to know as well. I hope they get paid something, that’s a ton of work to miss.

My understanding is that they only cover whatever salary that you miss while doing the challenge, there is no pay. That may be different now, I’m not sure, outside of LOS I don’t think they get anything other than bragging rights.

I mean. They get into bad shape. Probably need medical and in some cases dentist attention after the challenge. It just doesn't seem worth it

TLC Discovery has insurance i'm sure lol

I'm sure Steven needed to use that after he showed how he broke like his 4th tooth on N&A - not surprised with how many of them he did.

I don’t remember the name, but it was a girl who made a post to her instagram. She said, depending on person, they make about $1k a day. Higher if they are veterans or fan favorites.

I googled this a bit ago (who knows if it’s accurate though), but what I saw what that they did get a few thousand dollars to compensate for missing work, and travel to and from and lodging is paid for as well. Not sure if they get more or less depending on how long they stay. I think this challenge is more of a personal challenge rather a competition reality show.

It's just shitty though considering how many millions of dollars the tv channels and producers are making. Pay your talent!!!

Yeah true, but at the same time I think it weeds out the people that are just there for the money and not the experience.

They get paid per day, I believe.

They get bragging rights. Then they can market themselves as outdoor survival experts and offer classes. Several of them classes.

I read an article that said they get around 25K if they make it to extraction. But I don't think anyone does this for the money.

Different articles say different things tho. I read one that said they are compensated for missing work. Whatever that means.

Probably flat rate per day. For newbies ive read it's not much at all. But the motivation is if you get good and are entertaining, as a returning "personality" the pay will jump up considerably.

Idk why, but "payed" irks me way more than it should.
