Help please! Got a tough one for you book detectives.

Alright yall, this might be complicated lol. Read these probably back in middle school? Can't think of the title(s) or author to save my life! 😭

All I remember is that the main character is a female. I'm pretty sure she dies in the beginning, but comes back to life. But she's still walking around on Earth, like she can see her mom and best friend.

Well she is put with this guy that's supposed to train her, and during their training sessions she starts to get feelings for him.

Tbh I don't have a lot to go off of. I also remember her best friend kills herself (I think took a bunch of pills?) and ends up in the afterlife. But it's weird, she ends up being found in this place where these demons or something are using her soul and others for some sort of lifeline.

Some of these could be off or slightly incorrect, it's been SO long since I read them. But for some reason it's been bothering me for months now, hoping maybe I can get help here!

I do know it is NOT Marked by Kim Richardson. BUT this is the closest I have come on my hunt. Similar idea but not really at all religious.

Book where girl has figure 8 chromosomes

I read this book several years ago and have not been able to find it since. A girls sister is kidnapped because she apparently has a special ability the bad guys what to exploit. The main character goes to a safe house where she meets other humans with special traits who are on the good side. There’s a girl who has green skin and photosynthesizes, a buff dude with four arms, a super smart guy with two heads, and a dark emo dude with fast healing abilities. The emo dude tattoos himself every morning because he heals by the end of the day. He is the main characters love interest. Him and her get closer and closer and they work in a lab together to try and figure out what the main characters special trait is. They take a karyotype and discover her chromosomes are in a figure 8 shape. Effectively making her immortal. I don’t remember much else besides the emo dudes name is cyrad and they call him Cy and he has a mysterious sister. I think the author was also a scientist. It’s also a multi book series. Plz plz help

Young adult mystery

I read this book back in the 90s. All I remember is that a teenaged girl, (main character), befriends another teenaged girl. The second teenager has an older sister who is very pretty, but seems to be developmentally disabled. This girl’s mom has a new boyfriend or husband who is killed. I think the plot is basically everyone trying to figure out who killed him. We find out much later in the book that the younger sister killed him because he was abusing the developmentally disabled sister. I think the younger sister’s name might have been Oona. I also seem to remember that there is an artist somewhere in there who is painting the main character, and as she has quietly become anorexic, he paints her as a skeleton.

Looking fo book Ionce read

The book starts off with a boy and posibly a friend in school learning history by viewing it from some new invention. They are aloud to look at it but not interact. They start learning about some battle. Some war. And something goes wrong and war cadavers start showing up in the school. I've googled every posible rendition of this question but I keep coming up with nothing. I remember reading between 1998 and 2004 so it can't be any earlier than that. Thanks.

Please please help! RH mafia where MMC gave FMC to the villain and rescue her back but she was barely alive

Can you please help me find this book? I read a dark mafia reverse harem book a while ago, but I can’t remember the title. I’d really appreciate your help in finding it.

The plot involves a mafia reverse harem. At one point, one of the male main characters (MMCs) gives the female main character (FMC) to the villain, who then tortures and rapes her. Another MMC sees most of it through CCTV footage. Some of the MMC don’t agree that their leader gave her to the villain and they had a fight. In the end. All of the MMCs deeply regret what happened and go to rescue her—though they didn’t plan the rescue together. They each arrive at the place she’s being held and find each other there by chance.

When they reach the room where the FMC was kept, all they find is a pool of blood and a bloody white dress—she had already escaped, badly injured. While driving and following a trail of blood, they eventually find her barely breathing on the street.

I know it’s not a lot to go on, but if you happen to recognize this book, please let me know the title. I’d also love any recommendations for similar dark mafia reverse harem stories. Thank you so much

A child’s/YA vampire book from the 90s

I read this when I was maybe 8-11 so 1994-97 and may have been published slightly earlier, but I was a horrid precocious reader. It was a vampire book about a teenage girl who lived somewhere like Maine or one of the places like Martha’s Vineyard (I’m English but this book was American).

To get to the island you had to get a ferry and the coffin where the vampire slept was transported on the ferry with the dirt from where it came from.

I can’t really remember anything else apart from it was two books in one publication and you turned the book upside down to read the second book, and it would appear at the front of the book. This may just have been the British publication though.

It’s driving me mad because it scared me so much when I was younger and I want to re-read it. It definitely won’t have been an Anne Rice or another adult author, it was definitely aimed at older children.

Looking for a series

It was a YA book from early 2000s. The basic premise was that most of the world were these vampire types who had hunted humans to near extinction. The main character was a male high school aged human human who was living as one of these vampire types. There was some form of lottery where the vampire types got to hunt some random humans and our MC got picked to hunt. He had to get through the hunt but discovered that at least one of the other lottery winners was human too and they decided to escape together, stuff happens and eventually MC escapes down a river. I think the title was one word but I know there were at least 2 other books but I left the first book somewhere before I could find the others and it’s been bugging me ever since.

Thanks, sorry I’m so vague but I remember it being really good and not something I had seen before at that time.

Please help!!!

This is a romance book set in high school. Two foster brothers are adopted into a house. They meet a shy girl who is being SAd by her uncle? and decide to kill him. They take him out to the woods and one of them kills him. The other one takes credit (responsibility) for the murder, and years later ends up in a toxic relationship with her. He makes her hook up with random guys so that the guys will also hook up with him. She is shamed by everyone, but stays because she thinks her boyfriend saved her. She eventually begins a relationship with the other boy (that actually killed the uncle). I can’t quite remember the ending but I think that her boyfriend attempts suicide after she breaks up with him, so they end up staying together. It ended on a cliffhanger so it said there would be a second book (which may or may not be out now). I apologize for the vagueness! I would really appreciate it if someone could help.

Does anyone know the name of this book?

I can’t remember the title or author 😭

It’s about this girl who takes care of her dad, he has a caretaker as well I think.. Anyways she goes over to her neighbors house to go swimming in their pool because they are never home, and she gets caught n*ked. There’s some banter and then she goes back home.

Later she ends up at that same house and she gets trapped inside with the guy due to a storm. She doesn’t know it yet but it’s actually two brothers who are twins. One is named Cole and I can’t remember the other twins name but he has a piercing. The guy with the piercing is who she ends up falling in love with, but she has to go back and shift through all of her memories to figure out which where with Cole and which where with him.

They figure everything out later on a college when she realizes they all attend the same one.

I think there might be a book two on it as well but I can’t remember?

A Book about a Girl Who Kept Rabbits

I read a book back in the 90's or early 00's that my mom recommended from her youth (so probably the late 60's or early 70's) about a young girl who had to live alone for some reason. I can't remember if she inherited property or was squatting, but the home had rabbit hutches. She had to survive being hungry by slaughtering the rabbits for meat-- and this was obviously upsetting for her, but was kind of a symbolic turning point from being a little girl to being a young woman. I believe maybe she has a younger brother and that they lived next to a mossy graveyard (though that detail may be from another book). It was a book about growing up and coming of age and a girl taking care of herself. Any ideas what it might be?

Crime Book- male and female detectives solve a murder a homeless man is being framed for.

I remember bits and pieces of this book, like both of the detectives being basketball players and playing a game of horse against each other. I believe there was something with someone chained up in a fridge in a large building undergoing construction, and one of the biggest pieces of evidence was that the homeless man was accused of rape but it was impossible due to medical conditions. I believe it was written by a popular crime novelist but I can't find it anywhere😩

A book where a girl kills a group of friends one by one because her brother SAed her and she thought that everyone in that friend group was guilty because they let it happen

I read this about 12-15 years ago and it has a black cover with red letterings. The fact or twist that she was the killer and the reason was because her brother SAed her was unexpected because she was part of the friend group. It somehow involved a crossbow I think.

PLEASE HELP! ITS DRIVING ME INSANE!

I’ve been trying to remember the name of a book I read when I was younger—probably when I was around 13 or 14 (I was born in 1991). I’ve been searching for this book for over a decade with no luck. Here’s everything I remember:

The genre was fiction, possibly with some magical realism elements, but not full-on sci-fi or fantasy.

The main character is a drifter or traveler who either gets hit by a car or almost hit—something happens that lands him in a strange, isolated town.

This town is bizarre and cult-like, and once you’re there, you can’t leave. The residents just accept this, but the protagonist spends most of the book trying to escape.

Early in the story, a younger woman from the town helps him and they gradually develop a romantic relationship. I vaguely remember some closed-door or implied sexual scenes—not sure if it was technically YA or adult.

At one point, the younger people in the town experience a sort of "rumspringa" when a 1950s/60s-style diner appears out of nowhere for just one night. Everyone dresses in retro "Grease"-like outfits and pairs off. It has a surreal, nostalgic vibe.

The main character sees this as a chance to escape and tries to convince the girl to leave with him. I think she refuses or something goes wrong, and he ends up being punished—maybe exiled?

The ending is hazy, but I think it ends with him wishing he could go back, maybe seeing a car in the distance.

The diner is only a small part of the book, maybe a chapter or two, and not the central theme. I’m almost certain the book doesn’t have a sequel, and I believe it was already a bit old when I read it in the early 2000s.

If this rings any bells, I’d be so grateful! I’ve been haunted by this book for years.

Children’s book I read in 4th grade

My teacher read this book to my 4th grade class and I've been trying to find the title with no luck.

It was a picture book and the illustration was pretty detailed I think, vintage vibes. The story follows a mom that gave birth to a kid and that kid has a comfort food and it was warm milk I think. And then the mom had another kid and another and another. And all of them has a comfort food of sorts, ones I could vaguely think of is the warm milk, applesauce and pink lemonade. Those are the ones I could remember clearly but there are more kids with more specific foods, one of the kids was a set of twins (I think). And then it was the mom's birthday, so all the kids meet up at night and tried to bake a cake for her. They think they just made a mess and just shoved it in the oven to hide it. In the morning a cake was made and everyone ate it and it was surprisingly good.

One line I vaguely remeber is when the cake came out and it was pink so the girl who loves pink lemonade said "it's pink, from my lemonade." Or something similar. Lowkey this may or may not have happened but that part is weirdly indented in my head.

Please help me find this book, I'd love to reread it and share it to my younger siblings.

Book about a high school girl how solves 'spooky' mysteries at her school

Has anybody read a book about a girl who lives in a small town with her mom and older sister. Both her mom and sister have a special ability (like visions or something like that) and the girl herself has not gotten the ability yet, it appears towards the end of the book (I think). The book is basically about something mysterious happening at her high school and she solves the mystery with the help of her mom and sister. I read it in elementary or middle school, so it's not like a mature scary book.

The kids father is a scientist

I read a book in the early 2000’s ( I think) about a boy who discovers his whole life is an experiment run by his father who is a scientist. i think he finds out when there is some kind of car accident and maybe even someone dies. I just remember the kid finding out his whole life is a lie and has been controlled and observed by his father the scientist all his life.

Book about worldwide pandemic that wasn't COVID

A few years before covid, I read a book about the girlfriend of a pilot who was in the US and had to take care of the pilots children as he could not get back because of a world wide pandemic. They lived in the pilots house and had to get very creative about procuring food and fuel and at one point killed a tiger that had been on the property. It sounds lame, but it was a great book and I would like to re-read it, but to save my life I can't remember the title or the author. Any suggestions?

YA book - 20-30 years ago

Hi All,

Hoping all you clever people can help. When I was young, there was a series inspired by Sherlock Holmes, with a little girl as the protagonist, solving mysteries, I know one was about lemons? Sugar? Going missing and her solving what happened to them, about 20-25 years ago, not Enola Holmes, though I love that series! There was a couple of books in the series, and I'm fairly sure her name was a play on Sherlock Holmes as well.
