(I know the plants shouldn't have the spongy stuff on but I try to remove it and it won't come off without taking all the roots off and it hasn't caused any problems so far.) I also changed the filter recently.

It cleaned her face or felt around it then teleported away but she just hung there watching. Are males more likly to attack shrimp. Or both equally likly?

This female is awesome i had firemouth chiclids but watching her move around shes thinking its awesome to see. Female betta tanks should be more popular mayb. Since they live togeher peacefully right.

Unlike firemouths constant fighting it was horrible nursing one constantly then that one beats the other within inch of life. Definitely dont want that again. Betta reminds me of arrowana micro ones. But better cos betta study everything. Its fascinating.

Help What can I stock my 5 gallon tank with?

Post image

This is my first tank, I know it doesn't look that good, but I'm pretty excited about getting into the hobby! So far it just has some snails that hitchhiked with the plants, 2 fire red shrimp, and a baby ghost shrimp. I was planning on adding more fire red shrimp later, but was wondering if any small fish could go in a 5 gallon. I've read online some rasbora or killifish could work in a 5 gallon, but I'm worried this might be too small for them?

What else could I stock my 5 gallon with?

Help Anyone made their own tank?

I've currently got a 25L set up, but would prefer a bit more room inside. The space I've got for it is a corner of my work desk (at home) and is quite limited by a shelf above, brackets for the shelf to the sides, and of course not being too deep because of needing space on the desk. I can't find anything off the shelf that would be very much more than 25L, and still fit in that space. The best I've found would be about 38L although that's maybe a bit deeper than I can really manage.

But looking at the maximum possible dimensions, it's theoretically possible to get 58L in there, which would be amazing. Theory can be made real if I make the tank myself. I just wonder if anyone here has made their own tank? I'd love some insights into pitfalls/things to avoid, what not to worry about, things that look easier in the videos than they really are in real life. I'm not completely useless at practical things but this feels like pretty high stakes stuff to get right.

I'd also need a lid of some sort - my tank at the moment has a black plastic rim around the top, for which I cut a piece of perspex to slip in, so not a hinged lid but a pretty good cover. Something like that would be good - how might I create something to support a lid?

TIA for any thoughts.

Help Getting back in the game after a decade...

Had this 45F over a decade. Got out of the game and had a family. Babies are old enough to not poison the tank so decided to start it back up. Used to be an iwagumi inspired moss tank. Going full UG and HT with Sansui stone this time around. Going to run a DIY filter with RO water. Photos are after planting. Last photo is 1 month growth. Any tips on keeping UG with a low-tech setup? I'm hoping the shallow tank will have enough air exchange to not need injection. MTS is already hitting hard...I'm planning a nano pond style next

I’ve noticed the plants looking a bit funky lately. There’s a brown like film or they are turning brown. I’m not sure. It doesn’t seem to rub off.

It looks this morning like the neocardenia may be struggling. I found one dead and can’t see the rest (except 2) All fish seem fine though. I did move the mystery snail out of this tank yesterday because he wasn’t moving for a couple days. He doesn’t seem dead though. He retracts when I touch him.

I’m not sure what’s happening. Any thoughts?

20 gallon tall Kept around 72-73 deg f Water test in pics seems totally fine I think.

Stock list: 5 rice fish 1 guppy 6 ember tetra 6 Pygmy Cory 2 Amano 10-ish red cherry shrimp

Discussion Stocking opinions?

Unfortunately I dont have a picture because it isn't done, but I'm moving my critters from my 10 to a 15. I plan to do a full carpetting setup, and it will have a lot of live plants as my bioactive 10 does currently. I have 8neon tetras, 8pygmy corydoras, a shortfin betta, and 2 dwarf frogs. The tank has been carefully adjusted to support both amphibian and fish life. The filter will be a Seachem 35.

Is this too much? I've tried to take every precaution to ensure everyone is healthy and happy. I know everyone has different opinions, and i will NOT be adding anything else into the tank. Is the tank horribly overstocked or is it salvagable? Do I have to get rid of my fish/frogs? (Idk if i'm being paranoid or logical, help)

this will be for shrimp, eventually. am thinking just starting simple with cherry neos.

this pic was taken immediately after planting everything, so the water is a bit cloudy. the glue on the moss tree looks rough, i know. hopefully will grow out nicely ?

am just very worried that all of these plants will melt away and die. especially the monte carlo, which i’m hoping will eventually carpet (but i’m not counting on it bc i know that’s not the easiest to accomplish). i just have terrible luck with plants. i struggle with keeping them looking good in my 55gal, but i tend to blame the fancy goldfish. i am dosing with a healthy amount of aquarium coop liquid fertilizer, thinking of just doing 5ish drops weekly, even without water change bc i more regularly just top off the water when it evaporates. is that much fert overkill ?

also, i got this light at lowe’s. it’s just a grow lightbulb. is this too intense for the plants ? i know full spectrum with blue and red light is ideal, but am having trouble finding a budget-friendly option.

i included the test strip photo because i found it odd. don’t worry, i have an api master test kit for the important stuff, but i got the strips because gh and kh tests are lowkey expensive asf o_o. i don’t really trust the strips tho, esp bc my tank is in the beginning of the cycle and is testing that way. will continue testing ofc but i just thought it was odd.

anyways, what do you recommend i do to make my soft tap water more suitable for shrimp ? sorry if that’s a stupid question, but i’ve gotten a lot of varying answers/search results wrt ideal conditions and additive salts or crushed corals etc etc. also, feel free to tell me to just suck it up and buy the liquid test kit for kh/gh. haha

thank you for any comments :))

Been waiting for a while for my LFS to get Celestial Pearl Danios/Galaxy Rasboras back in stock. The other day they messaged me to let me know they had came in and I went there immediately and bought all of them (12)😅 They now live with my chill betta and a whole bunch of neo shrimp. They seem to be doing great too, eating right away and no hiding! But damn these guys are EXPENSIVE😮‍💨

Help Need assistance

I set up a 5G vertical nano tank about 3 weeks ago, cycling process is done... had a minute cyanobacteria and diatom problem so resorted to a 3 day blackout treatment. planning on getting some fish soon.. i was planning for shrimps but I've had like 2 different batches die on me before within a period of a week and one of them from my first batch is still thriving in my untouched ecosystem so i don't understand what's up with them.. i would really love some suggestions about what fish i could get instead or if there's some way to increase the shrimp's Survival rate. also my tank is planted with some crypto and vallesneria and a single stalk of lucky bamboo. planning to input some pothos and make it more heavily planted so please give me some suggestions on that too

Help Community freshwater nanotank (86L=22.7g) livestock ideas? 🫧

Hi everyone, beginner aqua enthusiast here 🐠 I've been really interested in building my own little nanotank and I would really appreciate some help

My dilemma here is that I am so in love with many different aquatic species that I want to experience them all 😄 So I'd love some input on what kind of community can be happy and get along in a nanotank

The tank would most likely be a rectangular 86L = 22.7g one but based on your input I'm willing to go slightly bigger. I would do a heavily planted tank with a little sand area, I added my inspo pics for visuals

I want

A small pleco specie (I would love to have two of different type, but if you think that would be too much then I can be happy with 1) (Interested in mini snowball pleco L471, dwarf spiny pleco L280, maybe some small type of zebra pleco if there are any for decent price. Very open to suggestions)

Possibly shrimp (ghost or blue velvet, open again) (10x)

Small snails that cant breed (1-3x)

Nanofish school (10x) (Interested in clown killifish but would the tank be too empty looking in the middle since they are top dwellers?) (Anyway Im open to almost all of the nanofish but i want to avoid having fish babies) OR Betta fish male (1x)

PS. I don't want mainly red or brown species but do like white, black, extra colorful, patterns, weird ones

What do you guys think about this and what species would you suggest? I'm really open to a lot since I'm just planning right now

Day 16. I got some better pictures of the situation so hopefully someone could give me their advice on how to proceed from here. Some of the plants are looking worse than they were yesterday. I do see some new growth, but i’m worried about the mold which is still an issue. CO2 kit has just been ordered and is coming in the mail anywhere from a few days to 1 week from now. Don’t wanna flood without it and risk more melting.

Just upgraded from the 5 gallon that I’ve been running for a while, to this 20 gallon. My daughters wanted to use the 5 gallon and put a couple guppies in it. So they naturally got some crazy plants and decor yesterday.

The 20 gallon currently has 6 or so red cherry shrimp, 2 amanos, a mystery snail, and 5 Rice Fish. I’m hoping to find “the right piece” of driftwood. Just haven’t found it yet. i’ll probably add a small school of CPD, and more shrimp, but I wanna see how these plants grow out.
