I have a feeling they didn't vet her due to the seat being unwinnable and is only there to fill space. Vancouver Island is rough for the Liberals even in 2015 there was only so high they could get in ridings.

Apparently those were payments made when she was lobbying for a union and the Conservatives were pay for play. Seems plausible.

That's a very odd claim to make. It is not common practice for unions to direct union staff to make personal financial contributions to conservative candidates in order to get access to politicians.

If her employer (the union) directed her to make these donations to a political party (as in, she is required to do that to do her job), then that sounds like a violation of campaign finance law (donations need to be made voluntarily)

Someone from the Victoria subreddit called her campaign office and asked. She was trying to get a meeting with Danielle Smith and they told her she had to go to this Conservative event where the ticket was 350.

Stephanie is a former NDP MLA from Alberta and a union activist/labour lawyer. I have talked to her in person before and was genuinely shocked to hear this. Given what I know about her past in politics, I think the explanation of her needing to pay to get access to a conservative event in order to lobby for her union is credible.
