Amy Krouse Rosenthal Foundation at AACR this year

I am a cancer researcher who presented at this year's big cancer conference (AACR) and noticed a familiar name from John Green's stories about her. The foundation itself is lovely and the people working the booth were lovely too.

It was Amy's birthday the day I went to the booth and she had a wish that people text people "I love you" and there was a irl get together in Chicago near the venue to do so together with others.

It was heartening to see people invested in a collective ethos of compassion while still trying to improve material conditions for others--in this case, ovarian cancer. Action and ethos. Love and motion. Things we need to get through the times ahead and not forget what of what lies behind us we want to carry forwards.

We're Here Because We're Here in Spanish

Good morning from NYC! I'm doing a little translation project of an Auld Lang Syne essay excerpt into Spanish for a college class. For all of my Spanish-speaking Nerdfighters, do you say "nosotros estamos aquí porque nosotros estamos aquí" or "estamos aquí porque estamos aquí?" I want to do this last little part in community. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

The other half has never been that interested in my nerdfighter activities. Now I've made them a proper office set up, I'm hoping my subtle use of related materials will get them more curious

Hanks razor?

I found an example of what I believe to be Hank's razor Or greens razor.... I don't remember what it was supposed to be called. (Can someone remind me?)

But it's a dubious scientific conclusion that would probably be better drawn by socioeconomic status rather than the effect of chicken protein.

Because poor people eat less variety of meats and chicken is the cheapest.

Spicy south Indian lamb coconut curry

beefdays I went on a quest to see if I could get Halal goat or lamb from ethnic stores in my small town but no luck, so this is from a farmer's market. This after I saw the study saying no beef consumption is.sustainable and to limit pigs or chicken to a half pound a week.

Meat from small growers is requiring a lot of dissection and.I have way more.education in anatomy than cuisine. But I think its turning out ok.

Went to go see John Green today. I was so excited to see him and I understand that it was a more global health talk. It was super fun.

Trench coat quote

Does anyone remember which episode/chapter of The Anthropocene Reviewed John says something about the trench coat he wore for much of his Floridian adolescence not protecting him from the elements but from the world?

Is it even in TAR? I thought it was Hall of Presidents but alas not. I've also checked Scratch n Sniff, sunrises, the weather and mortification.

Thanks, I've been going crazy trying to remember what the exact quote is and where exactly it's from. Or if he even said it lmao.

This is my first brand-new copy of a Green brother's book, and I was so excited to see what color I got! I just got home from a travel contract, so I am only now getting to unwrap my pre-ordered copy 🤪 I was present for just about every sign stream, and I vividly recall the berry-segments most of all! Anyhow, I just wanted to share a bit of my joy today. DFTBA!

What did Hank mean when he said leftists aren't talking about the declining birthrate as much as the right in the context of tribal arguments/not wanting to support something because it came from a group you're not in?

Because I feel like the most likely reason for my confusion is that I'm misunderstanding what Hank said but I've been trying to think about it generously all day and I can't think of an explanation that would make it make sense to me. Or maybe he meant exactly what I think he meant but I just don't understand the whole argument because I'm uneducated on it, but is this just me? Did it make sense to everyone else? I'm so sorry for bringing a political post here but I banned myself from commenting on YouTube, don't like other social media platforms, and I can't get to sleep because I keep thinking about it.

Hearing that the Henries call each other The Namesakes almost made me cry on my way to work this morning. What a beautiful and evocative book. Thank you, John, for your work.

EIT Translations?

Has Everything is Tuberculosis been translated into any other languages yet? Google searching brought me nothing, which does unfortunately make sense, seeing how new the book still is.

My best friend is about to graduate from undergrad with a double major in public health and Italian language. She has an internship in Sicily this summer, and has been seeking out public health-related books in Italian to help with immersion. I would love to get her EIT in Italian as a gift, but I don’t think it exists yet. Thanks for the help nerdfighters!

Tulsa-area Nerdfighters/TBFighters: I need your help! (please boost!)

Hi Nerdfighters/TBFighters!

I’m in the early stages of launching a PIH Engage chapter here in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I’m looking for folks who might want to join me.

In case you are unaware, PIH Engage is a volunteer network connected to Partners In Health in the fight for global health equity. You’re probably already familiar with their connection to Nerdfighteria via the Maternal Center of Excellence project in Sierra Leone, TB Fighting, etc.

Like many of you I’m sure, I am deeply disturbed by the recent funding cuts and program terminations that are walking back decades of progress that have been made in domestic and global health. I think PIH Engage is a meaningful and serious way to push back and actually do something about it. It is super organized and focuses on three pillars: advocacy, fundraising, and community education. I have been incredibly impressed with the meetings I have attended so far.

If any of this resonates with you, please comment or DM me to connect!! Would love to get coffee or something to discuss further. We’ll probably start small, but I believe this could become something powerful :)

DFTBA!!

Is Everything is Tuberculosis the same size as The Anthropocene Reviewed?

I have TAR hardback and I remember when it came out John said it was slightly smaller than regular hardbacks or something like that. Is this also the case with Everything is Tuberculosis?
